I meant for longevity. I subscribe to the school of though that cold hot cycles stress the heater more than consistent heat.

That'll work, but since it's not rated for any kind of food or medical use you don't know what kind of funk it might give off. It's rated not to melt, it can still offgas. I know it won't be located in the airpath, I'm just not confident that it's a risk I'm willing to take.

I don't think the temperature ceiling on that is high enough. The heater has to get a lot hotter than the air passing through the herb does. I don't think there would be a large enough buffer (if any) between the heater temp and the 280C temperature ceiling of the tape.
