That's not the case for me. The wires don't stick out in the airpath, and the gap could easily be closed if the silicone was longer.

If the bottom silicone piece went up just a liiiiiiittle higher in the tube (1/4" or so), it would close the gap exposing the wires. Perhaps that piece was made too short in this production run. Are most of us experiencing this issue?

I just realized that's not even silicone inside the tube! The silicone is only at the very top and bottom to provide the seal. Inside the tube is plastic! Plastic and wiring and mystery gaps. Oh my.

I see those wires as well...they seem to come from some sort of gap, and would definitely be exposed with the mouthpiece extended, and likely in the airpath if the glass screen were not properly sealed. Oy. :disgust:

Honestly, I'm getting better and purer flavor from my Solo. But to be fair, it's had a much longer break-in time. This ascent no longer tastes like the floor of the kitchen in a Long John Silver's, but is still nothing like I get from my Solo. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and pack that...

I edited my post to reflect my uncertainty...I've seen thick vapor coming from the grill between pulls, but it could be escaping elsewhere. Haven't tried cotton yet, but I don't think I want to fuss with it long-term.

From what I'm hearing, DV will likely honor a refund, but I haven't seen an example of that yet.

He went for a replacement through their web page. I don't think he's tried calling yet. To echo what others have said, this is not the replacement for the solo and MFLB I was looking for. Either of those are far more efficient than the ascent, from our experience. And both have abilities...
