    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Well, it gets hot, that's for sure. Whether it's defective or not, I'm beginning to question, since it seems like there are so many reports of hot back ends on otherwise working units. Could this be "normal" rather than a defect? But the point of my post above was that it seems like the...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

I had back end heat problems and got a replacement back end from GH a few weeks ago. At first the new back end didn't heat up like the original, but now it gets just as hot when I have the temp set to 5, less at lower settings. Anyway, it functions fine other than the heat, but I was worried...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Yes, I think there's more heat (at least on mine) right at the mouthpiece. Which I think makes sense, since there's where all the hot air gets focused and channeled through a small opening. FWIW, I can't use it without the silicone tip.

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

It gets hot, and I need to let it cool down after 2 or 3 hits. So it's not great in a group setting - its really more of a "personal vape". Great hits, great taste, a less than 5 second warm up time from the time you turn it on until you're hitting it, and stealth. I use it in public places...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

I know it's easy to get frustrated with the bumpy road we've been traveling with the GH so far, but I'd advise folks not to get too discouraged. I've experienced that sinking feeling myself, but I've got a working GH now, and it's my daily driver. It's not perfect, but it's an awesome device...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Right, obviously there's a timer that shuts down the heater after around 20 seconds (I haven't actually timed it, but it seems like around 20.) The part I question is the presence of a sensor that knows when you're drawing on it. As I said, GH hasn't said anything about this AFAIK, and mine...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Are you sure this is correct? It's not mentioned in any of the GH literature as far as I can tell, and mine doesn't work that way. I.e., it doesn't seem to "sense" anything - it just turns off after around 20 seconds, whether I'm taking a pull or not.

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Following up on my earlier post: the replacement backend arrived today (along with postage-paid packaging to return the bad one). Ripped it out of the package, screwed it onto the unit, and took a big rip all within about 10 seconds, and I'm please to report that I believe I now have a perfect...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

This all may very well be true, but my back end heat problem is a little different. The instant I turn on my GH, the area around the clip and dial get hot enough that you can't touch it there. This is while the the red LEDs are still on, before the GH has reached operating temperature or the...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

This is exactly the issue my GH is experiencing. It's still working, but uncomfortable / awkward to hold because of the heat there. As I told Trevor in my email to him about this, electronics that aren't designed to create heat generally don't like heat, so this can't be a good thing. He agreed...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Following up on my earlier post about what I felt was abnormal and excessive heat in the backend of my SS GH, I just received a reply from Trevor. He's sending a replacement backend. So yeah, customer service seems to be good - he listened to my complaint and acted on it with no problem or...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Right, I understand that now, but it's not addressed or referred to in any way in the GH operating instructions. My point is, it really should be. One more very minor quibble that I forgot to mention in my earlier post: I was a little surprised that there was no cleaning tool included with the...

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. It's getting hot - very hot - in an area where there isn't a heating element. That worries me.

    Discontinued The Grasshopper

I've had my SS GH for about a week now, and have a few comments, as well as a few questions. Comments first: As others have said, it really does appear to be well-engineered. Looks great, feels great in the hand, and everything fits together solidly and smoothly like a well built watch. I...

    The Grasshopper Shipping Poll

Final update before I move over to the official GH thread: I heard back from Trevor today, and he said that the brief heating up of the back end was normal and nothing to worry about. So it looks like all is well.

    The Grasshopper Shipping Poll

So just to update on my previous comment because I said I would, my GH arrived on Saturday, and I've used it a few times. I've noticed a few issues that I wrote back to Hopper Labs about earlier today. No response yet. The main issue is that whenever I turn it on, it briefly gets very hot in...

    The Grasshopper Shipping Poll

Got my GH today. Have been able to sneak in a few stealthy hits, but haven't really spent any time with it yet. I'll report more tomorrow if I have time.

    The Grasshopper Shipping Poll

By "instant gratification", I assume you're referring to the almost two years backers have been waiting? That's the world's least instant gratification! Seriously, I doubt Trevor has intentionally been sending out faulty or untested units - why would he purposely create more logistical and PR...

    The Grasshopper Shipping Poll

After I get my shipping confirmation a few days ago, I signed up for tracking updates with USPS - I get a text message with details of each time the package is scanned. It left the USPS shipping facility in Aurora, CO last night, and is expected to be delivered tomorrow. :brow:

No, a regular backer. I backed them on Nov. 15, 2013, which I think was the first day, or close to it anyway. Yes, I'm a regular backer. Got address confirmation over the weekend, and a "shipped" notice with tracking info today.
