Try to assemble the pieces back together with the core upside down, threads up. Screw one hex, then screw the opposite hex. Then screw the other two hex screws. It should be centered fairly well.

If you're not getting airflow even after torching then its probably being blocked by the fit of the metal pieces. If TV won't do anything then I'd say experimentwith it and open it up. I will give some pointers. The inner ceramics are pretty fragile, so make sure you clean with Iso (91%+ only)...
