What is the typical altitude ceiling where these torches still operate well? Trips planned out west and curious if the torches will even be practical. Anyone have a clue what size and thread the screw is at the bottom of the Al. stem?

Check out some of the concentrate threads, like Concentrates for Noobs. It has a wealth of basic info towards the beginning, and has grown to include some quite advanced topics. FWIW, I heat my quartz till it is red hot, then wait a few seconds after it quits glowing before dropping concentrate.

I get sticky. IMO it is just residue and not dependent on quality of concentrate- but I do think there is a correlation to quantity and how much/often. Teeth and mouth can build up residue just like glass, best advice is clean your mouth regularly:D

I like the pump perc, but I hate the high water levels they are all designed for. Would shortening the end of the pump allow using lower water levels?

Ive owned one of those sealed gas masks for years and found it novel at best but completely intolerable on my eyes. Would not use any masks that cover my eyes ever again... the burn- reminds me of my combustion days when smoke got in my eyes.
