I really prefer the seal as well! Especially with Water Tools. The better held the stem, the better for the session! All IMHO.... :tup:

This may sound silly, but since you'll have the lid off anyway, take out the o-ring completely. Then test a session without, but by holding the stem so it's flush with the bottom of the oven. The draw should be more restrictive, but probably hotter too, if there was an air leak that this seals...

+1 for the LSV (But bring a solo during travel for backup! ;) ) .
