:D The tip was buried in the stem. The Quince just scorched on the first IH heating. Yes, the intent was to bury the cooling fins within the skirt. Meerschaum huh. Interesting thought. What does Meerschaum off-gas? What is meerschaum made out of? Sepiolite, also known as meerschaum...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

The legs of the bulb are not the right material to readily take on solder. Recommendations would include getting access to a small spot welder. Have a look at 'supercaps' for spot welding solution on cell-tabs. Maybe that could be adapted to tossing the sockets all together.

I'm sorry to hear that @BestBuds - What can we do to help you regain your VAS? As to 'reset' - Typically there is a hold-up capacitor in the circuit. You might be able to just crowbar the two battery terminals. That is to say just put a screwdriver between the contact in the bottom and the...

Great work peeps :p I do give myself a lot of leeway on allowable materials considering history. Brass bowls, aluminum tokers, and beer can bongs. I've eaten out of pitted aluminum pan throughout my entire youth. What's going to kill me now has long been established in my system. However, I...

I've done a lot of work with alumina. I tell you now, those would be some exotic stems.

    borro beads or quartz beads

In the old days they'd at least wrap a wire on that silly silicon tube like a micro-hose clamp, just above the little dart. Haven't seen that installed in a long time.

That would be a 50mm screw; best guess. Okay, maybe not ACE H/W. McMaster-Carr. Thanks for pointing that out @Siebter . Looks like some adhesive backed felt or cork is in order. Maybe 1mm thick all in.

@grogazola - we were talking aluminum but SS and Ti are acceptable mediums for vaping when exposed to heat. Makers still have to be diligent about the grades of those materials. You also have to separate the conversation when it comes to coils. There I cannot comment. Gold plating is a trick...

Hahaha.. yea. Glad that was more legend than truth. I could follow Vapeman's solution and gold plate the aluminum. Almost forgot... there is also Alumina! That is completely inert considering its firing temp. Unlike glass, Alumina is diamond ground so you can have fairly consistent geometry...

@dzoinp - No one has seen the bottom removed to know the limitations of making the hole deeper. That is a 90 degree countersink hole. I would take a different tact and head for the local ACE H/W or alike. They carry a lot of metric stainless steel hardware. I expect I'll be getting one when...

As an designer of all crap mechanical, there is an easily overlooked physical difference between Philips and blade screws v. the Torx and hex drive. And it is not a little bit of difference either. The standard Philips flat-head screw diameter (theoretical sharp) is 5.6mm and a Torx version is...

Just curious since I have that aqua-colored anodized tubing which turned out to be aluminum. Seamless super thin walled and smooth. Would make for a perfect liner in every other respect for stems using condensers. Actually this is worth trying. It is exposed to incoming air if it fashions an...

Those look familiar @stark1 I may even have a 30 y/o unit in a stash box somewhere. Still working on wooden stems with condensers. Question, would an aluminum lined wooden stem be a problem?
