i picked up a spare Persei kit from a local store to keep as a back-up.
One of the short batteries in the kit has a bit of yellow/brown crust around the edges of the positive contact.
it charged and works. Is this something I should worry about?

that doesn't look right to me. mine is all the way out flush with the end.
Perhaps clean and rebuild the center pin assembly making sure to get the tiny insulator sleeves in place snug
