My screen also looks like this. Like there's a film over the inside screen and the corner is lifting. Also the corners at the top center of the body were pulling away (I think the glue that davinci has sourced sucks ass) so I lifted the corner and put a drop of crazy glue on them to hold them...

You can get absolute clouds with the ascent, it takes technique like most vapes do but, it is indeed a champ! The small vapor path is fine because the draw is so unrestricted.

I got the 14 because I have a low pro 14 to 18 adapter so that makes it essentially 2 in one.

If you have a carbide drill bit, all you have to do is score a little line about half the diameter of the tube and just snap it! Sounds scary I know but, if you have it scored correctly it'll snap perfectly straight. Then just fire polish with a butane torch.

That sounds about par with my routine with about the same results.

What heat do you start at?

I had great results with shatter. Haven't run any ice hash lately. Ill give it a whirl next run. Gonna try a bud kief bud sammich here in a bit.

I put the plug on the straw so I've got a little more meat to grab ahold of. As for pushing the screen out I (carefully) use the mouthpiece just un-aligned. Many years of manual labor and automotive work have worn my already large fingers down to nubs.

If the jars had 4 holes in the bottom like the screen does I think they'd work great for smaller loads, the ascent responds well to a good pack. (I've got 4 jars so ill probably break out the dremel and a jewelers diamond bit and pop (try to) 3-4 holes in one and the give it a quick fire polish...
