Also I think the perc dome should be big (radius) so there is enough space to water splashback to break down. Compare the perc size of the SGW HT and HydraCirc. HydraCirc's perc is huge compared to it.

The piece is not hidden, the part of it that gets molten is hidden - it's inside the ceramic. You can pull it out and see if it's molten. But when you only replace the glass cover, you don't need to pull that piece out.
