Disagree. Mechanical failures could show themselves at any time. A connection that works perfectly at first can fail later for all kinds of reasons, including repeated heating and cooling. Switches wear out over time, etc.... Magnets can erase data and mess up a CRT, but in general are not...

Tell that to Apple, they've used magnetic chargers in a zillion laptops for years...

You are guessing that the charger that they ship with it is causing the problems? That would indeed be fucked up if their supplied and recommended equipment was doing that....
