Anyone get the engine only? Looks like I’ll have to cancel my tempest v2 order and been looking at grabbing the engine as I won’t be able to afford the full unit as I’m not completely sure but it looks like the general release of the simrell doesn’t come with the 8mm stem adaptor unless someone can correct me.
I’d really like to run this through glass. I do have a simrell blackwood stem.
Anyone who got the preorder with the 8mm stem adaptor. Does the full unit make a difference or would I be good with just the engine?
All of our Engines come stock with the Stem adapter.
As long as the Engine is paired with a Vortex or MVS, you will get the native experience intended. The Engine was built to work synonymously with our vortex cooling system without the need for water or a glass piece. This is for a proper balance of cooling, airflow, potency and flavor purposes. However, it can absolutely be ran through water if that’s the method you prefer.
The variables are going to be whether you have a full threaded connection and complete elimination of o-rings or using the stem adapter to pair with the MVS. Beyond that, it’s aesthetic, size, weight, mouth feel and other features that can be customized.
If I wanted to be picky, I’d say the complete titanium build is the best balance, not only with performance and elimination of o-rings all together, but also the weight of the device and hand feel. However, its currently “flaw” is being too long to fit into current storage solutions. If paired with a Short MVS stem, it will fit into XL Dynavap storage cases for portability.
I will be working to solve the storage solution when I can get above water with inventory on the device itself.
Hopefully this helps
In my head I keep calling it the STED.
Agreed with what others are saying about how impressive the device is; I got the head + adapter and put it on a Ti MVS, which is a great-looking combination. I haven't done back-to-back bowls on it, but no issues with heat transfer from a single bowl.
I've mostly used it with the Wand with a Tempest adapter, but with the adapter pushed up farther to reduce the amount of heat applied directly to the bowl, and let the clicks guide me. Impressive flavor and very even AVB (except for the one time I set the adapter much lower in the Wand, which resulted in a scorched top). I'll try out the Forge next.
If you’re playing with the wand, I’d highly recommend setting your Temperature ( really just a timer ) to 350F and allowing it to “Time out” on the screen, Ignore any clicks. This is what I call the “Golden Zone” the flavor is incredible and the vapor production at that low temperature is impressive in my opinion. That where I personally like to stay. I usually just do 1 heat cycle and then dump it, but you can get more out of it if you want. Also, try to do a light pack, give it a scoop and slight tamp. It’ll be about .05. Just for science.
Running the Forge, I’d recommend 1600 joules at 90% power and pull at the beep. Also a really great experience.
I personally prefer the vapor signature from the wand over the forge, but the forge heat up time is insane and really convenient for a quick rip in about 10 seconds or so.
Before the Simrell, I ran a torch 95% of the time on my analog devices. Now I’m 50/50.

Great review. I've had mine for a little over a week now and my feelings are more or less the same. I went straight for conduction and combusted my first bowl. I tried the YLL IH 2.0, but that takes almost 90 seconds on boost mode to produce any vapor at all for some reason. I assume that's an issue with my IH. I'm waiting on an adapter for my wand. Hybrid with a torch has given amazing and easily repeatable results.
Some of it could be the honeymoon period, but it's the only thing I've reached for other than the Tornado I received a couple of days ago. My ball vape, Camouflets, and Firewood 9 haven't been touched since this arrived. I've had some resin sitting on the desk all week but I think I've only done one dab.
Other than the wood sleeve getting hot easily, I have nothing but praise to offer. It's met or exceeded all of my expectations in quality and performance.
in not the biggest fan of the YLL when using the Simrell, I’m not sure what it is about it, but I haven’t been able to get really good results. I much prefer the Wand or the Forge.
Out of curiosity, what size torch are you using?
