The cartridges are a resistive wire encased in a magnesium oxide ceramic inside of a steel case. In that one I have 4mm rubies 3mm boro and 1.75mm cz. But I'll likely be sending out with either cz or boro.

What wattage are these running? I'm running a shrunk down version that's about 24 watts. I'm wondering the difference having that glass thermometer surrounding does.

I've heard the old style of using a light bulb. Technically the same principal but the glass is thicker so it's harder to control the heat.
