Silicone Carbide/Titanium hybrid nails

So d-nail have decided to use the same ceramic they use for ceramic plates in bulletproof vests for the dabbing platform of the nail - Silicon Carbide.

This stuff is tougher than conventional ceramic, withstands crazy high heats and may well be a great nail solution. No idea about taste, but if it tastes like other kinds of ceramic then we are in for a treat.

Anyone given one a shot, or is it too soon??

taste's great, way better than ti and it seems to produce a finer more voluminous cloud that is less irritating to the throat and lungs. i think this is going to be the deluxe vaporizing element going forward...

I have it and I love it, I like it more than titanium or quartz. The flavor is great and it's super easy to keep clean. I also have a couple Ti D-Nail nails and a quartz PB vortex nail to compare it to.

Nice! I am gonna get my hands on one now as my Deep Dish Banger is great but I feel that dabbing could still get better yet lol

Have you used it with the sapphire insert?

Also which carb do you use with it? Does it fit properly?

I tried the sapphire insert but I don't like it - it sits on the ledge of the Ti insert screw, offers less dabbing surface and doesn't seem to bring much to the party IMO. The D-Nail Ti carb cap works perfectly with it, the carb cap has a little ledge and it sort of fits into the nail head making for a better seal than something that just sits on the nail head. The only complaint about the carb cap I have is that I wish the handle were longer and/or had a dabber handle.

one thing - the Silicone Carbide nail will only work with a flat coil (unlike the first run that worked with a 20mm coil)

This tends to lengthen the hit, which means you can usually load a smaller dab for the same hit and effect. Taste is just superb, the most reliable and uniform flavor i have yet experienced. Where's the HE version?

Well, I'm gonna be getting one of the SiC dishes about to come out on the dnail site now. I'm more than stoked looking forward to this getting here!

According to this chart, when using the sapphire you should jack the heat up by 175f over just the SiC dish on its own. Remember of course that more heater wear than their test equipment may give you slightly different results. Just something for anyone not finding the sapphire much use to try if they haven't already!

I'm gonna have the new v2 universal d-nail carb with threaded rod handle and a flat dabber handle as well to go with it. Really excited that they brought out a new carb with handle and especially less thermal mass and hence less temp drop when carbing the nail

Yup got it yesterday along with the Gen2 carb cap. For the freebie for waiting a mere 3 extra weeks they tossed in a free Sapphire Disk valued at $50! I tried a few dabs on each, I think I may prefer the Sapphire since it seems to be better for smaller dabs (the dish is huge!). I can't really say if the taste is better yet but I have any complaints so far. The carb cap works well too and the threading works with HE and New-Vape threaded dabbers.

I ordered it with the Infinity base but the threading is the same as the SCS Omni Nail so I was able to mix and match parts. I've got 2 male adapters stacked together so that the nail is a fixed piece and the coil no longer swings around.

Glad to hear that it is so versatile, I've got an infiniti with sapphire insert already (man I've only just recently gotten it perfectly dialled in, turns out the best way to use it is to drop your temp to 270c (lower than 500f I'm pretty sure!) and just as you're about to dab, set your d-nail temp to 360c. The gradually rising temperature will boil off the vapor that doesn't go up in the first ultra tasty hit in a gentle, slow fashion - ensuring you get both maximum taste and minimum waste

Still, it seems like this consideration is moot with the SiC, I keep hearing reports that it tastes just as good from start to finish even with big dabs!

OMG just saw this now! So jealous bro! My package somehow ended up in the complete wrong part of the world altogether (seriously the wrong side of the globe, thanks USPS!).

Just spoke to d-nail and they are taking care of everything now. Fuck, my package shipped over 2 weeks ago now and it looks like they are gonna have to ship another one! I hate living in the mmj backwoods of the planet!

Fuck that dish is so much deeper than this little infiniti 'large' dish (which is even less deep with the sapphire insert!). I want my SIC!!!!!

Their new carb cap works well too, sits nicely inside on top of the dish with an angled hole for good airflow. I've been playing more with low-temp dabs and have gotten some nice flavorful hits off of it.

I actually had the threaded rod already from another carb cap and it's topped with a counter-weight to make it easier to hold (and look classier). I find the shorter length makes it easier to handle and I can apply pressure from the top if needed by just pressing down on the weight.

I like that the e-nail industry seems to have standardized around 16mm, 20mm and flat coils as well as connectors in some cases so products from different companies are interchangeable. Same goes for dabber and nail threading too that I mentioned before.

Whoa, so my SiC dish arrived this morning, early (like before 8am)!

Free sapphire, those d-nail folks sure know how to spoil a dab enthusiast!

So initial thoughts on the SiC dish:

I got the dish out of the packet, cleaned it with ISO and hot water as instructed in the manual, then bhombed a small chunk of Cluster Bomb absolute shatter (live resin, the tastiest concentrate I've ever made by a long shot!) at 650f.

The flavor explosion is hard to describe. To describe the taste difference compared to high end quartz (pukinbeagle) or the infiniti with sapphire or even ceramic - imagine that the full flavor of your dab is sitting in a dish behind a door as terpenes which are all being perfectly boiled. That door is only barely opened and you can just smell a bit of the edge of the goodness behind the door - this to varying degrees is the taste you get from quartz/ti+sapphire/ceramic/ti. The full flavor is obscured.

Drop the same dab onto the SiC dish at higher temps (I had been dabbing at 550f on Sapphire/ti recently for reference!) and the door is blown open. You taste it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. The vapor tastes great from start to finish, even if it is a huge long dab.

The dab vaporizes so fully and evenly, and the vapor is so thick off even a tiny .03 dab, it feels like hitting a sublimator! Such satisfying hits off such small amounts. The new carb fits incredibly well. The D-nail guys nailed the pressure flow with this one!

@canj00digit? @MGG @Frederick McGuire @4tokin and all my sub buddies (lol), you need to check out the SiC dish and sapphire insert combo! Gets you the flavor you miss out on with the sub and the same sized hit!

There is no doubt that SiC is a big part of the future of dabbing. I will likely never buy ti, ceramic or quartz nails again.

Still, enough raving about the SiC...

The Sapphire insert was a curious proposition indeed. When I first heard about convection dabs from my D-nail rep, I wondered if this would be a gimmick.

After my first dab on the SiC, I got out and dutifully cleaned my sapphire insert (freebie for the delay on the delivery) with ISO. Then, I smeared some ACDC <.02% THC CBD sap around the sapphire. I took the sapphire and gently placed it on top of the SiC convection ledge at 850f (yes, this is hot, but remember the air is doing the heating here!).

I placed the carb on and hit with my usual just-enough-to-make-the-perc-function inhale on my Pyrology rig. I noticed very little, if no vapor coming out. Some nice taste though.

Then, I hit it hard, like one would hit a sublimator. Vapor screamed through with sub-like whitewall! The taste is hands down the very best ever, and IME so far surpasses the SiC alone. I want to try non-full melt bubble on this at a lower temp, I think it will be magnificent!

The load lasted quite a while as I use a solid .1g of ACDC.

I feel so much better, I've had such anxiety this week and that huge ACDC start to the morning seems like it'll be a regular part of my research ritual (I am a scientist, I'm talking about my professional research, not dabbing 'research' lol).

Highly recommended (pun intended) to all. If you are getting an enail, get an SiC dish. There is just seriously no reason to own quartz, ti or ceramic for this purpose anymore if you have the funds and can get SiC (which is not badly priced for a d-nail product either!).

Bro, you need to get the proper carb cap. It is crucial to understand that the airflow/pressure in the SiC has been engineered to the nth degree here.

You are not gonna get such readily vaporized dabs if you use a non-matching carb. You will get vapor trails, vapor leaking out of the nail while carbing and an inability to leave the carb on the nail on a piece you are holding without dropping it etc. Standard caps are too small, the OG HE carb for instance is smaller than the inner diameter of the dish, let alone outer! You do not want Ti sitting inside your dish on your dab, it'll taste bad and lead to vapor loss.

There is no other matched carb for the SiC yet, but I know quartz dabbers/caps are coming (this will be even better when it comes, but pricier I'm sure). Don't try and save a few bucks by buying the wrong tools for the job. You could get the carb without the dabber handle if necessary, or with the threaded rod handle which is substantially cheaper - I noticed they don't seem to list the rod handle anymore but call d-nail and they'll hook you up.

If you already have a HE OG carb/dabber you can unscrew the dabber from this and use it on your d-nail universal 2.0 carb (same threading) but please do not use a non-matched carb. It will really hamper your experience.

No worries bro, glad to help Yup the gen 2 is the best carb for SiC so far, I have two of them (one with threaded rod and one with flat dabber).

I have seen pressure flow 3d animation videos of the design and it really is quite impressive actually

Quartz will be at least a month away I believe. They're gonna be sweet!!!

Threaded rod is great, probably better since tastier dabs will be had off quartz or boro. Still, the flat dabber tool is handy for scraping dishes and such

Yes but as @herbivore21 said it's not ideal since the new carb cap was optimized for the SiC Dish. Also it's huge compared to everything else on the market so most other caps won't seal properly around the edge. In the case of my SCS OmniCap, it actually fit inside the dish and got temporarily stuck.
