as im sure most of you have heard of the situation in St Louis/Ferguson MO where an innocent unarmed 18 y/old african american man was shot in the back by a policeman while he was running away. rumors so far say that MB and his friend were walking in the middle of the street. the patrolman approached them telling them to get out of the street. this is where the story gets fuzzy, but somehow the cop had MB in the back of his patrol car, for what we have no idea. i can only speculate that MB and his friend must have been defiant to the cops orders and said something the cop did not like. so now the cop and MB are both in the back of the patrol car and an scuffle ensues. one shot was fired inside the patrol car, but nobody was hit. they fight a bit and then MB gets out of the patrol car and starts to run away. at this time the cop grabs his pistol, takes aim at MBs back, and kills him. he then calls the shooting in to his dispatch and they leave the dead kid in the middle of the street for 4 hours...

so some rioting and looting follows. a small convenient store was burned down and other random businesses looted. both of which the family of MB are begging to stop.

IMO this is just another case of the police abusing their power and it leads to a dead kid. of whom was very good kid. the frustration of harassment and disrespect boils over in the community and bad shit happens. i am not condoning the rioting/looting in any way, but people can only be pushed so far.

its amazing to me how all of the white people around me (and i am white) only want to talk about how horrible the rioting/looting is, but not about how this innocent and unarmed young man was killed. i hear shit like "its just terrible what THOSE people are doing"... when it should be "its just terrible how the police treat people and conduct themselves".

there are rumors that this whole altercation is on film. im sure the facts will come out at some point.

i keep wondering why the cop felt he had the right to shoot MB in the back.

cop tells them to get out of the street. they say "fuck you" due to how they have been treated by cops their whole lives. cop gets out and forces MB into the back of his cruiser. MB fights back, cap grabs gun and shoots and misses, then MB tries to run away and is killed.

why was he forced into the car?

why didnt the cop do his job properly and apprehend MB. chase him down, taze him, mace him? anything but fucking kill him. these fucking cops have been given the right to kill.

this swine needs to be locked up. if it was a white person this cop would already be in jail.

your thoughts?

It's cause they are too quick to use excessive force. There are so many stories lately of police MURDERING unarmed people. Most of the time there is multiple officers there and it escalates straight to gunshots, they don't even try to take people down. Look at all the stories of the dogs that police have killed, many of them under 20 pounds! These officers have no business protecting anything when they are scared of yorkshire terriers. I'm also not sure how one can uphold the law when they don't even KNOW the law. Tons of videos of cops infringing peoples rights with authority none of them have privilege to do. But it always ends the same... a paid vacation.

Police are being simultaneously militarized, and immoralized imo, while they pursue "minor offenses" to purportedly prevent major crimes. Prisons all over the usa are overcrowded with non-violent offenders, while violent crime is at a 40-year low. The main reason for this travesty is the rapid, corrupt and absurd rise of the privatized prison system, or more accurately, the Prison–industrial complex.

The signing of the Rockefeller drug laws in May 1973 by New York's Governor Nelson Rockefeller is considered to be the beginning of the Prison Industrial Complex. The laws established strict mandatory prison sentences for the sale or possession of illegal narcotics. Federal Judge Mark W. Bennett stated that "mandatory sentencing destroys families and perpetuates the cycle of poverty and addiction, with no evidence that it works".

"The 'prison-industrial complex' (PIC) is not only a set of interest groups and institutions; it is also a state of mind. The lure of big money is corrupting the nation's criminal-justice system, replacing notions of safety and public service with a drive for higher profits. The eagerness of elected officials to pass tough-on-crime legislation – combined with their unwillingness to disclose the external and social costs of these laws – has encouraged all sorts of financial improprieties."

Both parties are complicit ('tough on crime' etc), so if you want change vote for a 3rd party.

From the witness statements that I've seen so far, MB was never in the car at all. The "scuffle" occurred through the window of the cruiser with the cop inside and MB outside as the first shot is fired.

This of course directly contradicts the police's initial statement about MB being in the car (which they have since walked back). Someone is lying here...

I know this isn't about this particular guy. This is happening all over the country though.
This guy is white. They probably had some money to get a good lawyer. Often we don't hear about these cases. The family ended up with more money than what they were asking for originally.
This man is almost a vegetable and is severely brain damaged and needs to be cared for 24 hrs a day.

The tackle

On May 10, 2009, Harris was walking through Belltown when he was wrongly identified by a witness as a suspect in a bloody bar fight that re-erupted inside a nearby convenience store.

The witness pointed Harris out to Paul and another deputy, who were working as King County Metro Transit officers.

Harris led the deputies on a roughly 2 ½-block foot chase as the deputies yelled for him to stop. The two sides disputed exactly when the deputies identified themselves as officers.

According to testimony during the civil trial, Paul and the other deputy were wearing black tactical uniforms, not traditional deputy uniforms. Harris' attorneys said he likely didn't realize the deputies were law-enforcement officers.

As Harris slowed to a stop, Paul delivered a hit to Harris' chest, slamming him into the concrete wall outside the Cinerama theater at Fourth Avenue and Lenora Street. A surveillance camera captured the incident. Harris is seen raising his hands before he is hit by Paul.

An internal investigation by the Sheriff's Office determined Paul delivered a "hard shove" to Harris that fell within legal bounds. The King County Prosecutor's Office, calling it "a very tragic incident," declined to file criminal charges against the deputy.

But after reaching the settlement, Harris' attorneys contended the Sheriff's Office and county withheld emails and other documents that outlined internal concerns about unnecessary or excessive force used by Paul in other incidents. They filed a motion at the end of last year asking Arend to sanction the county and order it pay an additional $3.3 million.

Just another example of how we are paying to opress ourselves, beyond the salaries of the policy makers, enforcers, and the legal/judicial/probation/prison/parole system, we are also compensating the victims with public funds. I'm definitely not opposed to the latter, I just wish there wasn't so much of a need for it.

I also heard an unarmed African American was shot in California recently. The shit going on in Ferguson is rediculous on all sides. I also read that the cop was trying to pull MB into the window, one shot went off, then MB ran and got shot in the back. After that he went his knees with his hands in the air and the cop fired a few more time and killed him. They aren't releasing how many shots where fired yet for some damn reason. Also, someone found out the cop's name and address and is threatening to release it. Crazy shit. All this happening while I'm in Mexico. My wife has a good friend that lives in the Ferguson area and she has taken some eerie pictures of the looting and militarized police.

Also, FUCK the prison industrial complex. They should have never let prisons be privatized.

End rant

I hate to say it but much of this police behavior is a reaction of the tea party racist mind to having a two-term black president, or commander in chief. Some of the far-right rhetoric about obama is literally insane, and these inbred racist cops are literally acting out their misguided frustrations and revolutionary fantasies. Now of course the feds will have to intervene, which will only perpetuate the dynamic with these motherfuckers. At least shit like this only happens on the west coast, the east coast, and in between.
:mental::disgust:

EDIT: this is pretty awesome though (I read that the fpd only has 3 black officers, maybe it was 3%, the demographics have changed in town but not on the force so this is huge):

The fergusen police have finally gotten their story straight.

Darren Wilson Identified As Officer Who Fatally Shot Michael Brown
n-THOMAS-JACKSON-large570.jpg

After almost a week, Police Chief Thomas Jackson has identified Darren Wilson as the officer who fatally shot unarmed, black teen Michael Brown on Saturday in Ferguson, Missouri.

Jackson also announced the department would be releasing video of a "strong-armed robbery" that took place in the area. He outlined events that took place beginning at 11 a.m. the day of the shooting and offered an account of the incident that implies officers confronted Brown in connection with the robbery. He offered a packet to reporters that included more information.

The report identifies Brown as the primary suspect in the robbery.

im hearing he stole a box of cigars. and assaulted the clerk. more like shop lifting and assault. using the term "strong-armed robbery" is a bit extreme IMO. either way he still had rights to live. of which it seems to have been taken from him.

i keep hearing different versions of the actual altercation with the cop. and the police are saying that is car was not equipped with video/audio... of which i dont believe for a second.

eyewitnesses say MB was never in the car at all. police say that the cop went to get out of his cruiser, and MB rushed him and pushed him back into the car. then they say he went for the officers gun. now if that is the case then he should expect to get shot at... while he is fighting with the cop... not while he is running away.

so in short until this all plays out its hard to say exactly what happened, but i am not likely to trust the police in this situation. or any really.

total... fucking... mess
Hey guys I got a new slogan for ya'll.

Now the all the attention will focus on if Brown did or didn't steal a box of cigars LOL.. Who the fuck cares if he is guilty or not of this petty crime. The fact is brown was shot in the back and murdered by a police officer.

yep. only one thing... now im hearing that he may not have been shot in the back. and that he was shot during the altercation of which he was reaching for the cops piece.

i just hope the real truth comes out.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how all of this plays out. I thought that it was already determined that Brown was shot in the back...My bad...

My main point was that the focus should be on what exactly happened during the altercation between Brown and the officer, not about cigar theft.

Small towns are being given "excess" military equipment through a program of the Pentagon, in which they have to use the equipment within one year. That combined with the" look at my shiny new toy" effect these things have, makes for a very dangerous situation.

absolutely! in fact i just saw some still shots of the alleged "strong arm robbery".... pffft

he pushed the clerk. thats it. he did not hit him or throw him to the ground. he pushed him back about a foot or two. so really this is merely shoplifting. certainly not robbery.

regardless, like you said, who cares about the shoplifting. its all about what happened between MB and the swine. and it sounds like at this point it could go either way.

i really hope MB did not try to go after the cops sidearm. and if he did... then he put himself in danger of being shot. if thats the case then all the racists will be like "see this stuff isnt a problem. its the people who are the problem"... type of bullshit.

regarding being shot in the back... this was originally reported to be the case, but im not sure that it has officially been released. so there is a chance this was not accurate.

even if this turns out to be negative in MBs favor there is a major problem with the police in this country.

oh i should also add that gov jay nixon has let the local PD off the portesting case and now has the MO highway patrol running it.

this basically means that the military like presence isnt right in the protestors faces. they still have riot teams in ferguson, but they are on the outskirts of the county. so something sorta positive there at least...

EDIT*. eyewitness video here! sounds like three eyewitnesses all telling the same story while the police tell another.
