I've been using a super cheap (very thin glass) J-hook that a friend had bought from alliexpress, and eventually gave to me. It works fine, but since it's been my main glass style I like to use these days, I was thinking I should get one that doesn't seem as fragile, and just keep this one as a back up in case I break the new one.
I can't drop much money on one, so I assume I need to find something that is maybe just one or 2 steps up in quality than the one I already have. I definitely want one that is totally clear so I can see the vapor build up in it as I draw. Any suggestions of where I should buy one from, and if you have any specific models in mind, feel free to let me know that too.

Hoping to find something (maybe on sale?) for less than $50 including shipping (I'm on the west coast of USA). I am open to either 14mm or 18mm connector since I have glass bowls of each size to use with it.

Not sure the sort of J-hook you want is available for that cheap. But maybe look at Oregon Glass Blower. Great quality stuff.

I would suggest skimming backwards to see you some options? If you want another cheap hook from China, you can get one that is more functional, and better quality... Many different hooks and more from artisans

This one has VERY thick glass, and while not exactly the style I was thinking of getting, could possibly work, but I'd need to get it on sale to be in my budget. I did that but kept finding dead links or ones to very nice, but out of my price range J-hooks, so I posted to ask about it. I was probably looking too far back. I'll skim some pages that are newer, and hopefully find some working links. I am willing to buy "china glass", as long as it's better quality than the one I already have. Although I guess I could just buy another similar one and that way I still have a back up for not much money. I'm just hoping to find something that's decent, not super low quality. It doesn't need to be artisan quality.

I'm also wondering if maybe a very small bong, used dry would serve the same function of giving me visual feedback on the vapor production so I don't over cook the herb while drawing on the log vape.

They are extremely high quality, and that's what I was talking about, more functional with the right angles, and there is the Chinese version like that... You can't compete with OGB for quality, but much more pricey and could require more patience depending on the order and timing etc... He customizes anything however

Did you skim backwards from here or did you start at the beginning? Always getting backwards... Presuming what you have is a basic China hook so it wouldn't be tough to beat, and there are a lot of different dry glass aside from hooks like hammers too

Of course, there's a variety of different options for water pieces, that are specifically good dry for cooling, but also anything can work dry in some fashion, you would have to try more to know what you would like as there are many I would not bother with dry myself due to the perc or volume etc.

I am looking for something that won't obscure the vapor inside it that much. I need to watch the vapor for temp modulation with the log I'm using.

I saw this post from a few pages ago, and I think that especially using it dry would probably give me a lot of visual feedback, and I love the look of it. I am trying to figure out if they ever go on sale so I can keep under budget. But if I'm going to spend more than $50 with shipping, it will have to be something I am this into the look of.

Yeah I thought it was clear, offering to make you whatever you had in mind, a lot of the glass artists in this community are good like that and they charge reasonable price, clear can be quite reasonable! And the quality typically much better as well of course

I know absolutely nothing about getting custom glass made. It makes sense now what he meant, but obviously I didn't get that right away. I assumed it would be out of my budget to even get a non-custom one from an artist, and I have no idea who the quality glass makers are. This is good news! Except after looking at all this beautiful glass art, I'm starting to see how people get (J) hooked on collecting glass. LOL

Except for a bong I won at a dispensary, and the crappy J-hook that a friend gave me, I've always just used accessories that came with whatever vape I owned at the time. This is all new territory for me. LOOK WHAT FC HAS DONE TO ME!!!! LOL

First FC gave me VAS, now I think it's giving me GAS. LOL

It's a 14mm female joint (he also makes 10mm ones) so no bowl.

@hashmasta kut I know that your pieces have diffuser holes. What do you think about this concept without the reducer? Think you could load some flower straight in the joint? This would make me want one 100x more

I finally made a Sand Castle.
This is a 14mm quartz straw for nectar collector, filled with (30x ?) 2,5mm (maybe 3mm) quartz balls.

The bowl is a Ehle 18-14 reducer with a Herborizer screen wedged inside.

I think it could work dry, but not wet because you'd have to place the screen so low in the pipe's joint for the heater to fit it would be under water. Also it'd be easier to load, unload, and clean the adapter rather than the pipe, imo.

Both valid points. I just worry using a 10mm nectar collector tip with a 14mm adapter won't hold enough heat. And I don't know if he can fit an 18mm joint. Although I could use a 14mm to 14mm.. I just want to keep it as low profile as possible.

Actually the water level is below the joint, it could be done no problem wet I believe, especially if the piece was made with that consideration in mind, with a slightly deeper chamber allowing even more separation between the herb and the water level.

A screen would be a good idea to keep the herb up in the joint area, otherwise it will be probably pulled down into the diffuser section and nearer the water, but you could make a little ball of herb and stick it in by itself too, maybe pull gently.

I can make 18mm joint versions if wanted, and that would be cool, been making these for almost 15 years and I have never made an 18mm one yet!
