That cap sensor is finnicky for me too. I just turn off the cap sensor and pulse to pre-melt. If you want to keep using it, I find it seems to register much better in a specific cap orientation.

You can usually fix the cap sensor with a strong magnet. I use one of my anvil magnets it will flip the switch when it gets the sensors reversed. The one time the magnet didn't work for me, I pulled the tub gasket and found oil on the sensors underneath. A quick wipe and back in action.

Do note: the gasket requires a certain amount of patience to work it back in place properly.

I als have dealt with this issue, but I found that, after giving my cricket a deep cleaning and cleaning the magnetic sensors under the gasket, these issues mostly resolved. They have started to creep back up with continued use, so I think resin build up on the sensors may play a part in what causes this issue.

What size allen key does the Cricket use? Unfortunately the used one I got didn't come with a key, and I'd like to check out beneath the gasket to see if needs any cleaning.

At full price probably not but if you can get it cheaper used, it's fantastic for microdosing. Amazing flavor and handles small loads super well with minimal mess.

While I don’t take advantage of its tiny size and portability, and paid full price when originally released, it’s a solid device, and I don’t regret buying it.

The magnetic cap which decides if the cap is actually on, or not, and in heat up mode or melt mode, is the only complaint I have, as it’s FUSSY.
And be careful if and when you remove the very THIN inner glass chimney, it can break just with finger pressure, you only get one included spare.

I want to bring this out and about. What really attracted me was the functionality, size, and the instant heat up. With the device being able to cool down in 5 secs works as I want to test taking a hit and then putting it away to do what I need to do. Go back and take a hit and then clean the device

If your concentrates aren’t too thin or runny, whatever is left after the first hit, should get back to it’s original form “semi-solid”, fairly quickly when cooled, thus making it pocket friendly at that point, otherwise it’s best to keep the device upright when using. Good luck!

I mainly do Sugar and budder. I’m hoping the budder will cool off enough to be solid after my hit. Really can’t wait to try this and compare it to the Aeris and Pivot

will be honest with you... I don't really do concentrates often (mainly flower) but once in a blue I will use this little guy. I think it's solid. Always do small dabs with it (BB sized) it even comes with a little card/picture of the size of dab you should not exceed for best use.. swab the tub clean after every session. If you overload, it will get messy quick and you might even get some dab splatter in your mouth if you pull hard when it's overloaded. Always soft slow draws. It's great for low temp cold start dabs (420f/450f/470f) and it can deliver a massive blast (2 or 3 hits) at higher temps.

If you have especially stinky concentrate the device will smell right after use for a bit so get a small smell proof pouch for it if this is a concern for you. If you leave it out in the open or in a draw the smell will go away in a day or so.. but pretty sure right after use people who know the odor will smell it even from your pocket if they are close to you. Higher temps = more smell.

Since you are using it when out, after your final dab, remember you can clean and wipe the titanium tub later if you wish. I have my cap off warm up temperature set to 200f., using that with the cap off, warms up the tub enough for a qtip cleanup. Unlike ceramic bowls, no risk of chazing, another plus! Enjoy.

That is exactly what I do. I actually put a little more than recommended. Have it melted. My pre melt is 215. My preheat is 1.0 secs, temp 517-520 depending on the concentrate. Take a quick deep 2-3 sec draw and clouds and effects for me. Put it back in my pocket and repeat. I get about 5 satisfying clouds.

Yes. 5 clicks to lock/unlock it so you don't wind up getting a hot pocket, lol. When it's locked it goes into a deep sleep and uses next to no power - all DNA boards are like this.

You can download Escribe software from Evolv website.. with it you can soft or hard reboot it, mess with the menu screens, and download the latest firmware, etc.

EDIT: Don't forget to calibrate it when it's cold and room temp (hasn't been used in a while) so the temps are as accurate as can be. You can do it without the software ..it's a key combo in the manual. I think there is an option in the software to do it as well.. haven't used escribe in a while.

Other than fixing the poorly designed cap and magnet system, I'm not sure there's a whole lot they actually need to fix either in the hardware or the software...

(I've been playing with the scribe software on my Evolv DNA100 and it's really a wonderful thing. While the scribe software works great on the cricket, having the full color display and the multiple buttons on the DNA100 is a whole other animal.)
