Zeal and Ω

I’m loving the brassy gold color. It’s much prettier than my B0 that I made the mistake of burning off at max temp😅

The flavor out of this thing is so pure. I’ve found a 5-10 minute heat soak on the bowl with the PID on 520 gives me the optimal mix of flavor and vapor thickness. My abv looks like perfect coffee grounds.

I finally picked up my first wooden diffuser bowl for the Zeals. First chose to grab one of Ed's 22mm Mango https://edstnt.com/products/flowerpot-22m-adapters-v-2-14-18mm this one. Deeper bowl than a Shovelhead, and lovely wood of course. The head does not sit stable on the bowl handsfree which is fine and normal, it's wood you wouldn't want to be in the habit of soaking it anyway.

e: couple hours / couple bowls worth of time in this: yeah, this was a great buy. Super deep bowl.. can just pack it full and roast on it for awhile. This might be my new favorite to use with the Zeal ahead of the Shovelhead.

Coming here after the weekend, I’m going to open up preorder for international kits. I will also order some with the order I will be placing shortly. Without the preorder the will be no guarantee or reservation with the limited amount I will order for myself. I hope this works for those who enquired. On Sunday I will make the listing on the webstore with eta that I will be given on the kit ❤️

@onesixty2 how would you say the wood does with the heat? Does it do a decent job of not soaking any heat and lean more into full convection?

Does the wood bowl instill a flavor? I’m thinking one of these could be good since I’m clumsy.
It depends on the wood. I always look and see if it’s used in tobacco pipes regularly. Briar burl is amazing and super heat resistant. I believe it can withstand up to 700 if I had to guess off the top of my head and is very neutral in flavor @CDXX Pipes uses a lot. The bit I have sadly isn’t big enough to make one with but I might have to do some other type.

I definitely don't wanna claim to be an expert on the science involved, but from my perception.. it does a great job at this. The bowl itself really does not get very hot. It's still warm after having the head sitting there at 410f for a few seconds, but the inside walls feel significantly lower to the touch right after a hit vs the Ti shovelhead, which I learned to not touch right away!!

After 60 seconds the wood is nearly room temp again. I would and have to assume the shovelhead with a bit of soak does create a little conduction oven effect. With how little heat is retained in the wood, it seems logical that it is less of an oven effect, especially since I am doing most draws fast.

Honestly, not really a strong flavor, no. I do enjoy a bit of wood taste and I notice it more when I use my Couch Log Thuya Burl stem than I do with this diffuser bowl through the Vertex & Protege. If you have never hit a wooden bowl before, a strong woody flavor (to me) has a crisp, cool almost a menthol feeling effect to it, tasting like cedar smells then fading quickly. Wood also loses oil as time goes on, so you will get less and less natural flavor the more used it gets.

They also season after use, with the major drawback of if you combust it will season your bowl this way too. This was a really interesting bowl I just did not long ago @Grass Yes
It is a great bowl, especially with that beautiful Halo. I'm really enjoying. And just look at it!

I like wood bowls a lot although I haven't found a perfect one for the Zeal yet. I have looked at the Ed's one mentioned up thread. And I have Dfreez bowl that doesn't quite work with it.

What inexpensive bubblers are you guys running with the zeal? Just dipping my toes in at this point

I am using the protoge from CC, but you can use any bubbler you want as long as it has a bowl on it that works with the zeal, 20mm if i remember correctly.

People use all sorts of bubblers. It is completely personal preference.

I think you are asking about inexpensive, although you can go about as expensive as you want :-)

Anyway my top favorite with the Zeal right now is the CC Protege:
and the CC Vertex:
I find it is a little too powerful for me to enjoy with my Prophet, although that works great for all my other vapes.

Another option, that really lets you see the vapor is the TAG9 Super Slit Donut:
Those go on sale often, I got mine for like $80.

Many many other great options. The cheap glass thread is a great place to start.

Edited to add: iDB mentioned that two new recyclers will be available for preorder next week:
Two recycler designs will be shown off next week, we made it to proto #8 to get both of these. One will preorder for same price as Vertex the other will preorder at $85.

I saw some prototypes and I plan to order both, but the $85 one feels like an easy buy for me.

GooRoo 3-piece is outstanding:

Roor makes a very similar pipe as does Ehle, I think. Herborizer sells one, as well. Goo Roo also has a larger, thicker version, the HD.

Here is the link for international. Tomorrow I will try my best to notify people who have emailed to enquire about this options. For those who are wondering about plug types and power here is a great link.

i have a small 6 in beaker-like, peculator bong is it too small for this or any ball vap use?
Probably depends on how you use it, too: the (SS) Zeal works really well at low temps so if you're down well below 500f and chasing flavors and your perc is not overly complex, it could be really nice. If you want to use it a little more aggressively, eg blasting big hits, you might want something larger that stands on a tabletop with a 90 degree joint. The Vertex is a good example of something that cools and presents flavor well.

I have been using mine on a 12 inch calibear straight fab knock off that’s identical to the one CH sells with their 420vapezone set. I actually liked my first one so much I ordered two when I snapped the neck by dropping it in the utility sink like an idiot.

Picked up a shovelhead bowl and dual purpose tigerwood Ed’s bowl to try with the zeal. Looking forward to those getting here. The zeal won the reach test all weekend even with my other two heads hot and ready. The full extraction and flavor are untouched by my injector style heads.

i can't afford a good bong and the zeal kit. i need a unknown size of bong i can use. i'm kind'a feeble. my small fingers and hands are ate-up with arthritis. what type and size of cheap glass bong do i need (cannot buy both zeal and a expensive bong) and please provide a link where i can buy the cheapy bong. i have a little 6in, as i said, but i need a bong that is bigger/stronger and easier to use with that big zeal coil ball system. i found one, a bong on cheap glass site. thanks @Grass Yes

The folks in the cheap glass thread are better than I am at finding amazing deals on good glass:

You might want to ask over there some recommendations for your ideal price point. You might want to mention what part of the world you live in, but a lot of the cheapest stuff comes direct from China.

I've had good luck with TAG and Calibear pieces, especially during a sale. But also glass everywhere can be expensive.

I still think it is worth trying the piece that you have. You might really like it.

is anyone else not getting a colour change on their head? Mine has changed ever so slightly but nowhere close to the straw/golden colour I’ve been seeing from others. This is despite running for the last 3 days straight at 550 and I also did a whole hour at 950, with no effect on the steel. Unless I’ve grossly misunderstood how and when stainless will change to various colours, something else must be at play here.

Not that it matters in the slightest, but I am curious.

Fwiw, mine turned gold after ~30min at like 750, I think.

high heat can change the color of stainless steel. The color change is caused by the oxidation of the chromium in the steel. As the steel is heated, the chromium atoms react with oxygen in the air to form a thin layer of chromium oxide. This layer of oxide is what gives stainless steel its characteristic color.

The color of the oxide layer will vary depending on the temperature at which the steel is heated. For example, heating stainless steel to a temperature of 550 degrees Fahrenheit will result in a pale yellow color, while heating it to a temperature of 1100 degrees Fahrenheit will result in a dark blue color.

The heat coloring process can be used to create a variety of different colors on stainless steel. It is a popular technique for customizing stainless steel products, such as knives, jewelry, and home décor items.

Here is a table of the different colors that can be achieved by heat coloring stainless steel:

Temperature (°F)Color
550Pale yellow
650Light orange
750Dark orange
850Brown
950Purple
1050Blue
1150Dark blue

It is important to note that the heat coloring process can also weaken the stainless steel. Therefore, it is important to use caution when heat coloring stainless steel, and to avoid heating it to temperatures that are too high.
