EVOLV Cricket

He also might just honestly be in love with a new vape and wants everyone to know it and experience it themselves. Not a totally new concept around these parts. Neither is the new vape honeymoon period. Though the whole group buy thing is odd. But the zero hype roll out from Evolv seems odd to me too. They're running up against Puffco's millions in advertising. I'd be trying to hype this thing up a bit right now if I were them.
Dude I’m literally out at a family party right now with the Cricket. Had to people try it they were blown away. Normally would carry a bag with my herb vape and herbs. Just carrying the cricket w built in Dabs is FANTASTIC.
Here’s the initial explanation:

So according to this, Evolv decide to have a mom and pop smoke shop beta test their brand new $400 wax pen. So far, so good (they’re in the same neck of the woods, so this seem plausible so far).

Then they ship the store their first non-beta-unit shipment (to sell, presumably).

Papa Smokes doesn’t mention the device on their Facebook or Instagram, while promoting all sorts of other stuff.

But they do apparently send out an email, and OP is on this local smoke shop’s email list despite not living in Ohio.

OP buys the device and has it shipped to him.

The CEO of Evolv learns that the devices they sent to be sold actually sold, and realizes that he must contact the buyer directly because the production release doesn’t come with instructions (???).

All the while, there isn’t a single mention of the device anywhere but Evolv’s site and here.

I’m sure weirder things have happened, but this really does kind of strain credulity.
To clarify the genesis:

I emailed Evolv to purchase directly but the sales rep,Ken, informed me they don’t sell to the public directly anymore and kindly let me know what shops currently had stock. I never heard of either of the shops Ken told me had stock, but I trusted the official response and contacted them and ultimately got one shipped to me for $399.99.

(The idea to do a group buy came directly from the CEO, contradicting this initial response from the sales rep later on)

I have all the emails and texts from the transaction still including my PayPal payment. If you feel so entitled to see it all then I will provide it the receipts.

I like the product, not enough to throw $300 to save $100 later though. I find it unusual that AlphaDeltaF1, as knowledgeable that he appears to be about what's available for concentrate, not having any presence here, reddit, or anywhere else using that username, gives me pause, I'll stay tuned, cheers to all!

What’s the other shop?
EVOLV Initial response to my purchase inquiry listing both shops.

710 glass & vapor, Conneaut OH

I am on Xbox and Discord as AlphaDeltaF1, I have a decade old Reddit account as well, with a username I’m not the proudest of-lol. But if if settles the thread and will convince y’all I’m not some corporate shill I will link that.

I spoke with someone at the 710 glass & vapor, Conneaut OH, a few minutes ago, the Evolv Cricket is available for in store sales, $399, but it doesn't show up on the website, and the store doesn't ship, but they're open until 9PM, cheers!
Thank you for taking the time to verify this. If you want one shipped, Papa Smokes was more than happy to take my money and ship for $399.99.

Again, anyone who is interested may also join a group buy for some founders units for $299.99

(the same units for sale in the two shops right now in OH)

What other device has legit temp control and is also pocketable for a day out?

Evolv Cricket Battery life after 6 & 10 dabs

0 degradation in performance, as designed.
that's cool

i give it 6-12 months max before the price gets dropped to $300, assuming this thing ever even sees the market in any significant capacity given that right now the product reads more like some kind of fairytale than anything else

It's the titanium. That's gonna be the tough sell at a $400 price point. We've been able to get 1-second heat up time with 1 degree temp control for a long time on metal coils. But the connoisseur market doesn't want to dab off of metal. Granted, this is a metal trench you can swab out. But still. At the $400 level, you're going after people who buy expensive concentrates. They don't like dabbing off of metal.

The CEO needs to get in touch with @invertedisdead. Get this thing to work with a more premium dabbing substrate and it might be a winner.

I think different substrate materials and geometry would be interesting on on par to offering different atomizer styles like other companies do.

To all: What is the ideal substrate?

I've been enjoying the high quality flower I have available, with my TM, even a $40/ounce Mimosa, supposedly tested at 26%, had a great aroma, pretty nice taste, and excellent high, but I'm really wanting to try some of the 5 star full melt rosin that is occasionally available, and I need something small, unassuming, but most important, doesn't appear to be used for smoking. I had been hoping for some different glass for the proxy, but the price, design, and atomizer replacement gave me pause, the Cricket checks many boxes, and a different, higher quality substrate would help justify the cost, cheers all!

I too enjoy my high quality flower vaped through my PID controlled injector.

However, flower on the go can be pretty cumbersome with the refills etc and all the devices smell more like cannabis. Carrying a dab device is so much easier IMO.

Today I Loaded the on board dab storage and had a nice day out at a concert.

So like all dab set ups you will have some reclaim. Here is the cricket after 3 days of heavy use.

I do notice the spitting is worse with a fresh dab set to higher temps (450F and above). so I’m going to play around on escribe and customize the temperature ramp settings to my liking. Customizable firmware def makes this thing awesome as well.

Can you do a curve? The 1 second heat up time cuts both ways. A slightly softer ramp up may help.

That Ti coil is very cool. They should coat it in whatever ceramic stuff Puffco and Divine Tribe uses. Both of their atty's use thin little wire heaters. If this entire thing is heated it should still heat up really quick.
After re reading this, I realize now the Ti is integral to the design of the cricket IMO.

The thermal characteristics of the raw Ti tub allow for not only instant heat up, but cool down as well. That means no worrying about hot dabs in your pocket spilling after pre loading or not finishing a load. This was an especially nice feature when I was out at a music festival and had to be on the move suddenly.

Ceramic holds way more heat and would be an energy drain (with a-lot of wasted heat energy, most of which would be lost to the air and therefore your lungs)
