I sincerely hope all the line jumpers get run out of town on rails.

Glad licenses are going to ex-cons first.

Fucking bodegas, delis, CBD stores, and "smoke shops", all openly selling right now.

Good luck getting the strain on the label.

My friend in licensing told me how much the licenses will cost. Not public knowledge yet. :peace:

What self-respecting cannabis store would not have some specials for 4/20?
Hey, right now Empire has a "Potluck Discount Ounce, thc 25-30%" for $130, not too shabby...(though I've not tried that one)

The owner of Empire Cannabis is a woman whose husband and son have both been incarcerated on marijuana charges; this is one of the reasons she feels okay with what she is doing.
The 'club' concept has not yet been tested in court, so we don't have any definitive ruling on legality here.
I think it is interesting that the Cannabis Board has only sent 'cease and desist' letters, not police with warrants (yet?).

But yeah, those street vendors in Times Square, they're the problem here! NOT.
Because there is no problem here.

@VapeEscapist, part of my marvel at NYC in particular is how it can make room for things to happen for people both inside and outside of 'systems'. I understand you have your own ambitions about participating in the burgeoning legal cannabis market, and I do wish you good luck with that.

Are you also angry at the Native American Tribes in NY State, who are allowing stores under their own, sovereign sets of regulation?

Cannabis was prohibited by law and by taboo for a couple of generations, so now all of this "legalization" should be touted as normal? Regulating and taxing the crap out of a weed? C'mon, open up a little.

Yes, I think there should be regulated products for those who want them, with good testing and labeling etc. But there should also be room for more casual growing, distribution, etc. Hey, when you buy tomatoes at a farm stand, there is no government stamp on them.
How's the quality & prices of their flower?
I think their lower shelf could maybe be fresher, but it is still potent bud at a reasonable price.
I've tried 6 strains now, ranging from $150 to $255/oz. and I've been happy enough with all, though I think my starting tier with them is the level they call "Mixed Light", which at oz level is currently $255.

SEARCH for the treasure...
I think it’s great that folks are taking whatever risk that may be involved to push the now legal laws into actual stores or dispensaries in NY. What I think is obscene, is how every state tries to reinvent the wheel.

“We have to create committees, examine the law, etc,”.

I understand there are legal issues on the old books, but where new money is involved, you see a bunch of new local government jobs. Ok, that’s time consuming.... if any of these state government officials had any smarts, most of the research has already been done the past few years in states that have been legalized quite awhile ago, why not communicate and share ideas with those that have already done this time consuming work.

I promise not to rant about this forever, as I’m already certain these idiot politicians will tax the shit out of everything they may offer, making the lower street prices I already pay, even more attractive. My dream was to see NYC dispensaries like the ones I see online, that are like sleek Apple stores, but with reasonable prices. Guaranteed, they will screw this up...... :(

That's how they are in California, beautiful boutiques. It feels like walking into Tiffany's.

People are trusting their cannabis consumption to completely unqualified kids who mostly man these shops.

I did a small tour of my local shops and the guys behind the counter are smug know nothings selling god knows what for god knows how much money per gram. 0 quality control, 0 knowledge of product origins, 0 ability to guide the consumer properly. An absolute shit show. All they care about is packaging. I might as well start selling them D8!

You don't think everyone should be drinking bathtub moonshine, do you?

It's called having a balanced marketplace with some protective standards, something needed for any healthy industry.

This is the fucking wild west, and if you think it should stay this way; tell me what industry you're in and I'll draw you a comparison.

"Mixed Light", which at oz level is currently $255.
Mhm, looking forward to those fees & regs kicking in, bringing a reality check to the shops. That's probably more like a $325 ounce come 4th quarter 2022. Can't come soon enough.

Yeah well, it ain't her though is it? Might not qualify for kid gloves treatment....

Hey, when you buy tomatoes at a farm stand, there is no government stamp on them.
Yeah, but they have licenses and regulations for other aspects of what they do, right? And size matters too. Micro and small businesses have a lower barrier to entry.

I will have a license to produce home baked goods, a micro license to sell cannabis edibles, and a warehousing/distribution license.

The way these people are operating is forcing the hand of those of us who may have been established but were trying to be patient.

It's created a volatility in the market that isn't sustainable and absolutely not good for the consumer as a whole.

This is exactly what they have been doing. 100%

It just is taking a long time, as most bureaucracies do.

I’m going to have to hit a great spot after reading all that. It’s a beautiful day today. Hopefully everyone is able to enjoy the day and the great vape spots here! I’m just looking at the Hudson right now. If I didn’t know better, I’d go for a swim!!!

I can't wait for the warm weather.
Here's a nice pre-pandemic summer sunset out on Fire Island.

If I recall, you tended toward the higher shelf than I.
The price structure is based on how it was grown, so tiers are Full Term (outdoor), Greenhouse, Mixed Light, Electric Light, then something called Diamond Cut which is truly ridiculously priced, near 80/eighth.

If you buy an ounce you get discount and you get to mix & match from within that tier.

I've quite enjoyed things from the Mixed Light and even some from the Greenhouse tiers. 'Salads' are working the best for me.
Going away for two days, so last night I ground up a jar of (combined); Granddaddy Purple, Ice Cream Cake, Cookies& Cream, Pot Of Gold, Bumble Bee Breath, Cookie Milk and I think 2 others (?)

For our trip to Massachusetts, I realized that we will traverse only 'legal' states (NY & CT) and that's pretty cool. Just have to be mindful when vaping on the car!
Is that Ocean Beach? That's not the deck of Maguires, is it?
You nailed it!

Thanks my friend ... will get an eighth of higher end (maybe red velvet) but also looking to mix an oz of quarters of some lower priced strains. Thanks again for the great salad suggestions and have a great trip.

The iconic Playland in Rye, NY.
It's within sight of the Throgs Neck Bridge, so I call it close enough to NYC.
This picture is from halfway out the pier, looking back at the beach, which is a dog beach in the off-season.
Beyond and off to the right, out of sight, is the 1920's amusement park.

Stopped by Empire yesterday ... got a quarter oz each of Triple Chocolate Chip and Runtz (both mixed light taking advantage of the multiple item tiered discount ... thanks @vapviking)

Then to satisfy my top shelf desire, I took an eighth of the artisan weed, Birkinz by Quavo Huncho Farms California, which i thoroughly enjoyed through last night's NY Ranger game ... it's pure 🔥 just like our boys in blue ... GO RANGERS

Proposed under the Hellgate bridge in Astoria Park and she accepted. <3

Showed my newly minted fiance around the city all last week. She was mostly interested in Asian foods so....

Multiple trips to Flushing, hand pulled noodles, food court dumplings, soup dumplings, bubble tea, Tesso, Natures Republic, Morning Glory.

Around my hood in Astoria, museum of moving image, Jackson Hole, Agnanti Meze, Sal, Kris, and Charlies, Noisette, La Guli, La Cabana, Buffalo Exchange.

Manhattan, Highline, Vessel, Wo Hop, Takahachi, Drom jazz club (Mediterranean Jazz Fest), walk around the East Village.

Brooklyn Steel for Orville Peck.

Properly vaped for most of it....

The city felt a lot like it's old self this past week. The warmer temps bringing people out in good cheer. Had friendly random conversations and interactions almost everywhere we went.
