Condo just sent entire building no smoking violation. Not sure if they talking about me but I'm worried. Should I stop vaping or take a break?

Building has a no smoking policy. Woke up this morning to an email addressing the whole condo building about how they narrowed down a smoking violation to a specific set of apartments. They said they have evidence of a smoke odor traveling to other apartments as well as common areas of the building. They don’t mention which floor they’re talking about. Vaping is also apart of the no smoking policy.

Me and my girlfriend are in studio apartment. The vapes we have are POTV One, Nova and Dynavap with induction heater. We been vaping those threes in the main room. Don’t have the option to open windows because it faces other apartments.

My girlfriend is a nervous wreck even though we not 100% sure if they talking about us. What should we do? Should we stop vaping? Should we wait a while? I have been seeing joints that people been leaving on the staircase in the building from time to time in the past few months but don’t think it’s related to the email.

I honestly doubt it's you they are addressing, but just light an incense or candle when vaping. The vape smell is minimal, and I doubt its travelling to any other apartment but I wouldn't worry until they address you personally.
yea it doesn't even say what floor they are talking about or anything. My girlfriend is just nervous about it now and afraid to vape. Should I give it a break or something? In the email they claimed to have narrowed it down to a specific set of apartments but don't say what floor.

I wouldn't personally, I would only consider stopping if they warn you individually. Even then I don't think they are just going to bring the hammer down on whoever they can prove is doing it - which they most likely cannot.

If they had the information they wouldn't withhold it to see who is gonna fess up, they are bluffing and hoping that someone will make it easy for them, because one of your neighbors must be constantly annoying them about a smell.

ok cause ya my gf is driving me crazy over this lol. There are over 10 floors and over 100 apartments in the building. For the past few months I have been seeing joint clips and cigarette butts on the staircase from time to time. I'm not sure if its related but have noticed it. what do you mean by "hoping someone will make it easy for them"?

Another thing even at the end of the email they apologize to the people who don't smoke that's receiving the email and say they are just trying to make it known to the source that smoking is a violation of the lease.

If you're seeing literal joint butts on the staircase, along with cigarettes, it seems clear that is the cause of the smell and that is what they are talking about, they are claiming they have narrowed it down in the hopes that someone will just confess, that's what they mean make it easy for them? Buy yourself an air purifier, there is another thread talking about them with suggestions

yea the part where they claim to have narrowed it down to a set amount of apartments is what scares us the most even though they don't mention what floor or apartments. I also came across this thread right here that made me even more nervous even though it sound like management was directly contacting this person: https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/...-other-units-what-can-i-do-to-mitigate.52090/

The 3 vapes I mention do you know if the smell can travel through the walls or into the hallways. My gf is really driving me crazy over this.

Haha sorry dude anxiety disorders are tough to deal with I know! We can be the double-edged sword for it too... Yeah so I would say maybe lay off using the One, if you are really concerned, stick with the Nova, that should be the least smelling being on demand pure convection... And you can light incense and or other aromatherapy. Generally it is the weed itself that is going to smell and you never know how smell can travel or linger but it sounds like it's happening with smoke in the hallways so I wouldn't worry about it for you really, this is what we mean that it sounds like the condo board is using a scare tactic, it's working you are scared, she is scared, but I think you are fine, take extra precautions, maybe invest in a new vape like a log that can be very good for pure convection on demand keeping smells down, and you can also use them for aromatherapy to have essential oils going all the time... Generally vapor is not going to linger with the smell or seep the way smoking does throughout a building, however weed itself does smell strongly, and it's not like vapor doesn't smell at all, but yeah as far as seeping into the walls and other such things, I don't think you need to be so worried honestly... Easier said than done! Need to find peace of mind, tell her we've all been there with crazy anxiety and these type of situations, my friend only uses oil pen cartridges and still hides them alone in her own apartment, for fear of her building management, out of pure anxious paranoia!

My wife is a super smeller, can smell if I touched a dank bud. ☹️
I find candles and incense change the vapor smell but it still smells. Even without cannabis, candles or especially incense can smell like weed to others.
I try to minimize smell by exhaling into a Smoke Buddy carbon filter. Minimize dank raw bud out in the open. After vaping, spray a good citrus neutralizer air purifier, like Lysol Neutra Air.
Run a room hepa filter air filter.

Just my opinion/ experience.

Maybe start grinding your weed outside or in the car, then storing it in a POTV stash or another airtight jar, then you can minimize the aroma escaping when loading and preparing indoors. Also get a smoke buddy or fill a toilet paper roll full of TP and blow through that to minimize the exhale. But as others said, If you are seeing joint butts, I’d say the smell of that is 20x stronger and lingers a lot longer in my personal experience. They really aren’t probably talking to you, a lot of people consume nowadays haha. I seriously wouldn’t worry about the notice until/If they warn you personally.

I cannot imagine them kicking you out of your place without a directed personal warning first.

Are you in a legalized jurisdiction? If so, your story is that you were making weed brownies. Are they going to micromanage what foods people are cooking?

Also, when you say a condo building, does that mean you own the unit?

I honestly doubt you're the target here. Even if you are though, does the policy specifically mention vaping? If not, they can for sure fuck off.

Hey yall so I copied and pasted the email word for word cause my gf is worried about evictions and all type of things. Here is the email word for word. Let me know what yall think. Is it something to be concerned about? Here is the entire email here:

"Dear Residents,

We hope all is well. We regret to communicate with you under these circumstances, but we are reaching out to inform you that we have narrowed a smoking violation down to a specific set of apartments. We have evidence of a continuous strong smoke odor, which is traveling and affecting other apartments as well as our common areas.

This is a Smoke-Free building, and we the management team, do not tolerate any type of smoking activity, legal or illegal, as it is offensive to other residents who wish to live in an entirely smoke free environment.

It is therefore acknowledged that smoking of any kind is not permitted in any apartment, outdoor balcony or common area of the building as per your No Smoking rider that you signed in your Lease.

We would like to take a brief moment to remind you of your policies and procedures in accordance with your lease agreement .

As such any resident found smoking or noted as having evidence of smoke such as an odor permeating from the apartment will be in violation of the Rules and subject to the below fines. Please see below an excerpt from your lease regarding this guideline.

Violation of House Rules. Tenant acknowledges that the violation of any the house rules and regulations, as set from time to time by Owner, shall be a substantial violation of the lease and tenancy. In addition to Owners' rights to terminate the lease and tenancy, Owner, in its sole discretion, shall have the right to impose a penalty in the amount of $500.00 for a first offense and $1,000.00 for each subsequent offense.

Smoking of any kind on the property can result in eviction.

For those of you who do not smoke, I'd like to apologize that you are receiving such an email and please understand that this email is in no way accusing you, it is just reminding the source that smoking is not permitted. To report any smoking concerns we ask that you immediately contact our concierge. We have provided them with instructions on how to investigate and what information to report back to us so we can appropriately address the source.

We really appreciate your understanding of this policy, and your strict adherence to it in consideration and respect of your fellow neighbors.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate in contacting us. "

They sent this same email word 4 word in 2019 as well. Back then we didn't know about dry herb vapes and would occasionally smoke a joint in the house so they could've been talking about us back then. Is this concerning? Trying to calm my gf nerves lol.

Got it. So you're renting. Not shocking that you're going through this as landlords are some of the scummiest people on earth.

To me, it specifically says smoking. Which you are not doing. So they can fuck off. In the extremely unlikely case they singled you out because of smell, you were making brownies. For your sick grandma. No need to be honest with these people. And honestly, if you're vaping with your doors and windows closed and the smell is somehow getting into other units, that's the landlord's fault. Not yours. Sorry they have a shittily made building.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. But if your girlfriend's still concerned, I've seen some affordable 3 stage air filters on Amazon. They might make a difference, especially with carbon filters.

Personally I think incense is a terrible idea. You will just be drawing attention to yourself. I am doubtful that you are the party they are referring to as vaping is just not that stinky. I am betting there is/are cigarette smokers somewhere in your building, evidenced by the cig butts you have seen in the stairway...

Yeah forget the incense haha that was a stupid idea of mine, I don't even use it myself, sorry!

We have evidence of a continuous strong smoke odor

No they don't, what evidence could that be? Special filters that detect smoke odor by changing color? Not a thing that I know of at least not that I know of everything lol

No Smoking rider that you signed in your Lease

Does this stupid rider mention vaping?

any resident found smoking or noted as having evidence of smoke such as an odor permeating from the apartment

This line is bullshit, odor permeating from the apartment, is not evidence of smoke...

Smoking of any kind on the property can result in eviction

Seems clear that seeing the joints and cigarette butts in the hallway is what would cause them to send this...

it is just reminding the source that smoking is not permitted

Reminding the source, which they narrowed down, but sent to everyone, again seems clear they do not actually know who the source is and are trying to get them to stop or reveal themselves...

To report any smoking concerns we ask that you immediately contact our concierge. We have provided them with instructions on how to investigate and what information to report back to us so we can appropriately address the source

Furthermore here, they are asking for other tenants help, to help the concierge, in catching whoever it is, "provided instructions how to investigate" and "what information to report back" This sounds insane when you're talking about catching someone smoking, what kind of special training is needed for that, but also seems clear they need the concierge to help report who is leaving those cigarette butts in the hallway, imagine them training the concierge to sniff joints and then trace it back to apartment lol

They sent this same email word 4 word in 2019 as well

Okay then I think it's clear that you have nothing to worry about, this is a standard email they sent, when they see evidence like that of smoking, to stop the people from doing it or scare them into getting caught, either way it sounds like a standard bullshit thing they do to try to enforce their bullshit rules, I mean no smoking is good I hate smoking that's why I'm here vaping, but I hate that it is giving your girlfriend such anxiety that you both can't fucking relax in your own damn home... I would look to move ASAP, good luck!

Its all in your social engineering either you have the capability or you don't. I have successfully used incense (Nag Champa) and sage.for nearly 40 years before moving to a legal state. During that time I was fine in hotels, military installations and apartments. ANY questions were met with, I'm a Buddhist and its part of my religion. Youd be amazed how fast people lose interest in you over being sued for religious persecution. Even on bases, security couldn't leave fast enough after knocking over smelling incense.

I found that line pretty disturbing. Asking neighbors to be on the look out and rat out their fellow neighbors. Sounds quite... Soviet. Especially since they're trying to remove people from their housing.

Seeing the full email - I will agree my idea for lighting candle or incense was rather silly considering the butts you have seen that would 100% overpower a vape smell. They probably just tell the people "Hey, sniff for weed or incense" lol

Fuck this... Whoever is dumping their roaches in the hallway/stairwells has the RIGHT idea for the most passive aggressive win possible.

Make it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for management to pin it on any specific unit. leave roaches EVERYWHERE, hide them on top of doorways, in planters, under mats. Make the common area air stale like a teenager's university dorm room.

They won't kick out a whole floor, there is too much rent to be lost... May your corridors be covered in duff/ABV.

I wouldn't worry about it. I panicked when my new next door neighbor in my building turned out to be a cop.
I went through all the motions - a towel under the door, air purifier, etc., etc.
There was no need. He never hassled me or said anything besides "hello."
All you need to do to alleviate paranoia is step outside your apartment and see if there's any smell coming through your door.
If not, it's not you. Really, it's not you.
However, you might be better off with a log vape which produces virtually no smell along with a air purifier.
Don't stress too much about this - in my case it was all for naught and probably the same in your case.
