Advice needed - next vape(s)

Continued due to the post length limitation..

Sighs:
1. No one will ever complain that battery life is TOO good and while the battery life is certainly good enough for me, if you're using it heavily, and going through more than 4-5 pots of cannabis a day, you're going to be charging it daily, and if you're not paying attention, or rocking a full charge - you'll deplete the battery. I really don't find the battery life to be THAT much inferior to a Mighty+, it feels like it's ~80% as capable in that department.

2. No built-in brush - as I mentioned earlier. As a pure convection vape, you want your screens to be unobstructed and spending 2 seconds to give them a quick swirl with a brush after you have emptied out the vaped material will pay dividends. not having that integrated, as they had done with the stirring/tamping/cleaning tool is a miss.... but as you can see - i'm grasping at straws here.

3. The status LED's are hard to see if you put non-clear liquids in the cup. I really don't see this as an issue - but for the sake of completeness, it's worth mentioning.

4. The only REAL gripe I have so far (and it's nothing that would prevent me from buying more TB's) is that occasionally the cup gets confused, and when you're holding down the oven heating button, it thinks you're trying to go back and forth between the "sensing the pull" mode and the manual "hit the trigger" oven firing mode and it doesn't fire the oven, and you get a hit of nothing. This doesn't happen very often, and could be a user error on my part.

5. There is a bit of a learning curve to get the best vapor/hits from the device. Literally anyone can get solid hits from it - but to get MONSTER rips, that are silky smooth and packed with flavor requires a little more thought into how tightly the pot is packed (you want it loose) the grind and the draw length/speed. It's not difficult at all per se, but I find the more I use it - the better my results. Initially I was putting way more material than needed in the pots, and like the instructions say - less is really more with this device.

6. People complain about not being able to charge it while the cup is in place. Hasn't been an issue for me though.

Give one a shot. Provided you don't get a dud, I think you'll find it's a solid product.

"I had it for multiple days before my significant other asked about it - and she merely asked because she was surprised, I wasn't using my UV sanitizing Larq water bottle I religiously drink from, and was curious why I switched to a cup. I had even been using it as a vaporizer next to her for several days, and she didn't realize it was a vape, or smell any indication of cannabis, which is a big deal, as I get lots of complaints about smell when I fire up the Mighty+, PAX, Peak Pro, etc."

Your "SignificantOther" didn't notice ANY smell associated with the Tafee Bowle?

I live in an assisted living facility that prohibits cannabis, even though I have medical Rx and live in a state with recreational cannabis. I have mobility issues so going outside every time I need to use a vape becomes difficult, especially with the winter weather.

I do have a large window to exhale from but have always been concerned any lingering "smell."

That sucks. They should have someone wheel you outside, at the very least.

I do think Tafée Bowle is a good option for this situation, much less smell, the problem is the bud itself smells... Hope you find a good solution, ridiculous they restrict you!

Wow, that's too bad to hear - hopefully you've got a stash of edibles!

RE: the TB - I am using it right now as I type, and I am on the couch with the Mrs. but she's only 9 feet or so away from me (it's a very big couch), and I just took an extremely healthy hit of a lovely Indica strain called "Wedding Cake" and blew a sizable cloud of vapor - turned to her and asked her if she could sniff as best as she could to catch a whiff of it. She was unable to do so, and said she didn't smell a thing. Some strains can be smellier than others, but just to put it in perspective, when I vape this exact strain (from the same 1oz bag - so a pseudo-scientific level of consistency) from across the house with my Mighty+, I get near instant complaints :D, so her nose is sensitive.

To mitigate any odor of the flower/herb itself, get an airtight Cvault (or similar) to store it in, and open up a jar of Ozium (odor neutralizer) before you open up your airtight storage container, grab 2 or 3 small pencil eraser sized nuggets and seal the jar back up and the smelliest part is over. The vaped material would probably be your biggest challenge, but a double sealed freezer ziplock would take care of that. Leave the Ozium jar open at least while you vape, or perhaps for a bit afterwards, and you should be scentless. By that, I mean, someone could burst in - and you'd be sitting with a cup in your hand confused with no odor or visible cannabis, and they'd looked like idiots.

Another thing i've seen mentioned here, which I thought was really smart - is if you ever got hassled over cannabis odor, you could merely say you were cooking with it, and I can't see how they could give you a hard time, unless there is some community bylaw on making particularly smelly food.... but if they hassled you, they'd have to hassle folks that made fish, or were reheating their Asian/Southeast Asian food, etc.

In any event - Ozium (and i'm sure there are others) is exceptional for odor neutralization (not mere covering) - and the spray works in seconds. Between the spray and the Gel tubs - you could mask a whale fart in just a few short minutes

Thanks to all for the help and suggestions, FC is really a life saver for anyone searching for answers!

I purchased a few JYARZ last year when I started smoking again after learning I could have it delivered right to my door!

I had used an old Volcano years ago, 2000 or so, so I started researching vaporizers and just when I was ready to get something
my old place was shut down by the state and I spent most of August-September looking for another facility that would accept me.

It was very difficult getting into this place, clean, good care, great food, quiet, WiFi, Cable, A/C, none of which I had at the previous place. It's like being in a 4 star hotel, except that cannabis is "strictly prohibited" anywhere on the property, edibles included. I already had a few quarter ounces when I moved in so I've been smoking off the property whenever I can get outside.

I'm paranoid about being kicked out because I know how bad other places can be but I'd like to just vape a little weed and be left alone.

I've been in contact with FC members about 510 mod boxes with options as well as different portable units that I can use outside or in my room at night when there's nobody around to bother me.

Thanks again to all for all the help!

cheers

It's not my business - but it sounds like you have an incredible arrangement worked out. If it's that strict, and they'd really be able to bounce you for cannabis, I'd personally not risk it with vaping or storing any flower. Edibles are so much easier to get away with, especially in gelcap, dissolving strips or tinctures form. Gummies and mints are pretty darn easy too - but either way, your arrangement sounds too good to risk over vaporizing vs consuming cannabis.

It's definitely B.S. you have to deal with that, but the significantly increased risk of being caught vaping cannabis (vs edibles) isn't worth potentially getting stuck in a situation where you're getting bad care, bad food, lots of noise, no wifi, no cable or a/c, and in a dirty facility. Water, food and shelter - in that order... everything beyond that is a luxury - and it sounds like they have some big one's built in (cable, wifi, A/C, etc).

Again - not my business, but hearing more about your situation - if I didn't say anything, and I heard you got kicked out of such a great situation over a vaping a little weed, I'd be gutted and wouldn't forgive myself for steering you in that direction 😞

I appreciate your concerns, and believe me, I've been extremely cautious since moving in!

I've only smoked outside at a nearby park and always keep the window in my room open to let fresh air in 24/7. They even kid me about my room being so cold and for the past month they only come into my room to deliver meals and a twice a week cleaning.

I think a small portable like a TM, FW7, or 510 ModBox with something from Alan @iHeat, Fear&Lawyering CosmicXtractor, or a SHAMMER from Deg999_ will be a better option considering my current situation.

Something to take outside away from the property without the possibility of a lingering smoke scent.

I've managed to save over $750 cash the past few years to purchase something, the stimulus $$ really helped me out.

I'm just trying to figure out how to make payment without having a bank account, credit card, or Paypal.

I've asked my payee about some sort of debit card because I do receive $150 per month for myself which is more than enough for my needs.

And I can always mail a USPS money order, which is very safe, and the seller can wait until it's cashed to mail the item. I've used them in the past to buy & sell on Ebay and never had a problem.

I do have a family that makes purchases for me on Amazon who also has Paypal and get's reimbursed from my payee. She's been reluctant to help me acquire any "drug paraphernalia" because she doesn't approve of cannabis, and she has the same concerns that you've, and others have expressed.

Or I will look for an XMax v3 Pro at a local seller as my vape of last resort!

Again, I appreciate the concern, and for the heads up about Ozium, I added it to my next Amazon order!

@JollyGreenGiant Wow! Thanks for the in depth review of the Tafee Bowle! I'm fairly sold on it now. Unfortunately it is now out of stock, so I'm going to have to wait. Might be good anyhow as 4/20 isn't too far away now and I'm sure there will be good deals to be had, if my VAS can allow me to wait that long!

As for a new portable, I think I'm in a tossup between the TinyMight and the Firefly 2+. Anyone here have both that can give me a side by side comparison? They are both the same price, I like the look of the Firefly with the Zebra Wood, but the TM has a nice classic look too. Planet of the Vapes rated the Firefly 2+ as the best portable vape for flavor and smoothest vapor, wondering how the TM compares.

Tinymight all day. Full disclosure: I haven't owned or used a Firefly 2+ but I've been not buying one since the og Firefly and it's just never succeeded at the even extraction, convenient temp stepping, or versatility of the TM. Years ago I'd be rooting for the Firefly and Firefly 2 owners thinking they could talk me into getting one but the feedback is always about how fussy it is with easy scorching, the short buttplug mouthpiece clogging up etc.

The Firefly was an early attempt at what we were looking for in an on demand convection portable but the performance never matched its aspirations. With many better options nowadays it's kinda too late for the Firefly to take anybody's spot with its current design.

I can't think of an on demand convection portable that more regularly gets listed on r/entexchange for like half what it costs new: even the Firefly 2+ owners were hoping for more.

The Tinymight with a j-hook or bubbler for home use and the short stem with the clog-prone cooling unit for vaping out is arguably all you need. Baby the threaded battery door and get the wpa so you'll have options that don't involve the cooling unit when you're vaping at home.

The Xmax V3 Pro is not nearly as powerful or capable as the TM but still punches above its weight given the bargain basement price. It takes a bit more patience to get going and has the quirky timer and plasticky buttons but is still the best on demand convection portable you can get for under two bills.

Read up on the reliability, peeling finish, and pisspoor battery life before plunking down $375 on a Bowle. The TB has devoted fans at least but they are only wishcasting when they talk about improvements from a supposed TB v2.

What is it about the Hybrid you dislike, is it just the vapour quality? A few early adopters are still salty about the aluminum dust before S&B switched to the coated bowl. There's the occasional melting chambers as well. Neither of those would really apply to your device though.

You can get a pre-paid gift card from visa, amex, etc - that is like a debit card, and has a credit card number and everything - but there is no "credit" only the balance. They have these at most grocery stores and such, next to the gift cards. That'd be the easiest. I'd still propose the TB is better than the options you mentioned, as if they stumbled on your TM, or 510 Modbox, it'd be more apt to look like paraphernalia - and likely have more inherent odor. since they're open systems. The TB is a closed system with only the small air holes in the stem able to convey any lingering smells outward, where as the TM, etc are a straight shot/hole and more exposed. I'm no expert and I don't own these other vapes - so perhaps others who do could chime in, but I can't see anyone (not in the know) seeing a TB and thinking it was drug paraphernalia. If you started taking a glass of water/juice or whatever with you on your walks now, and then in a few weeks/months replaced it with the TB, i'm sure no one would notice/care and you could literally have the thing in hand and exposed as you're heading out. Perhaps i'm too paranoid, but i'd be concerned about potentially being caught when they're cleaning your room - or if you tripped/fell or injuring yourself at some point on one of those walks (assuming based on your situation, that might be a factor now, or in the future) and having the caregivers rush over and assist, only to find a vape in your pocket or near you, where as they probably would pay much attention to a cup. Frankly, i'd probably use the cup to vape some non-cannabis material as well to mask the scent and give the impression you were using it on the up and up as well, for mint or whatever - as a flavor enhancer for you water/beverage to continue to build a more defensible story.

They're still in stock at most of the places I just checked. Take a look at POTV - both sizes in stock. FF2+ seems long in the tooth, and overdue for a refresh, i'd probably hold on that and wait for the FF3. The FF2+ does seem compelling and I researched it thoroughly, but it's far too polarizing at this point - folks seem to love them or leave them, and there doesn't seem to be THAT many diehard fans, and even fewer folks who use them as a primary, which is a red flag. Between those two - the TM has far more fanboys and seems like a better bet.

Yeah what was mentioned are all great top-tier flavor vapes in my experience, TM and FW7 are my overall favorite, but the flavor that comes from my Milaana3 is pretty stunning... I'd add Cloud Connoisseur Halo and Atlas for my pure tasting desktops
I see you also have a TB. Are you saying the TM has better flavor than the TB? If so, what accessories should it be ordered with - i'll buy one immediately to test.

FYI firefly does not use real wood, that is fake wood paneling, trying to copy the artisan wood vapes that crush it's performance lol FF2+ is still overpriced, I have fond feelings about the original FF despite its flaws, was pretty disappointed by the FF2 and don't see why the plus would be much better?? TM is far far more versatile and effective, pretty much better in every way. POTV doesn't sell the TM, you have to take those kind of reviews with huge grains of salt, but remember no product is for everyone!

Well to be fair 510 mod box is an e-cig so that can hide in plain sight, TM could also pass for one if someone doesn't know much about them... You are wrong about them being more likely to have inherent odor, the TM and most of those 510 vapes are glass stem-based pure convection on demand, so it is only the glass stem, which serves as your chamber and vapor path, that retains any odors, can be cleaned fully and kept separately in fact! Honestly if anything, the TB smells more, the silicone mouthpiece and their stem path retains more odor in my experience, even with the cup attached if someone picked it up and brought it close to their nose they could smell the herb smell if it had been used heavily and or recently I think...

I see you also have a TB. Are you saying the TM has better flavor than the TB? If so, what accessories should it be ordered with - i'll buy one immediately to test.

Yessir! Much better, for one thing the TM has a full temperature range dial, it is capable of temperatures much lower than the TB's 365F starting point, I am often starting in my TM as low as possible, moving the dial up slightly after each hit, finishing around level 5 or 6 so I never use the upper end really... Calibration can vary unit to unit, my original TM I did go up to 8 to finish sometimes, but the point is you get a full temperature range which I really value! Furthermore the TM with the glass stem, that offers the best flavor, you can have a very pure vapor path that you can keep clean easily, for the best flavor I like to use it without the steel cooling unit, using a WPA through glass j hooks and other cooling mouthpieces... TB has a great chamber with the ceramic pot, and both rely on steel mesh screens, however the vapor path in the TB through the metal may not be quite as pure tasting a glass although it does cool better on its own, I think the taste can be pretty good, but it is not as easy to keep clean imo and then the silicone mouthpiece is not at all as nice to use or keep clean imo

The TB is a bit simpler I suppose, it does heat up a bit quicker as well, more instant on demand, but TM is plenty quick for me (and depends on the temp setting and battery level a bit of course) oh TM takes standard 18650 replaceable batteries, and yeah overall is much more versatile, can use it through a variety of glass pieces like I mentioned including water pieces... There are also a lot more options for stock stem style cooling with different mouthpieces and such on the aftermarket now!

So yeah if you're going to buy a TM, I say, get spare o-rings, glass stem if you plan to use it stock, a spare cooling unit if you plan to use that a lot so that you always have a clean one ready to go, also the extra long stem is fun for something different, kind of similar to using with a WPA and J hook though not quite as cool potentially... I would absolutely get one of each style of WPA, the multi WPA can connect to anything although it has a fixed glass honeycomb screen, I only use that one with whole nug or chunky grind for a different experience, most often I am using a plain 18mm WPA with a basket screen inside it, hopefully TM still offers that one? I use backwards RBT splinter stems however, and I think TM offers a 14mm WPA now? You can also get those from Alan@toasty-top.com though... You can get jayhooks from the rogue wax works and O'Connell inception hook is quite nice as well, I'm not sure if you have any water pieces already but we can get into suggestions for that if you want... However my favorite hook, for the TM, is this one I had Oregon Glass Blower custom make for me, it uses triple right angles for cooling, which is part of what makes the TB have such great vapor quality, it has double right angle bend automatically making it sort of like a natural hook vape all in one, so if you get this hook with your TM it can give you a similar cooling experience to the TB but with better flavor due to the lower temps and all glass path! Let him know in the notes when you order, if you would prefer an 18 mm version instead of 14, he can also make the sidecar mouthpiece be on the left or right side if you want...

Oh and spare batteries, grab Molicell P26A or P28A from 18650batterystore.com (there are other reliable spots to buy from but this is my favorite) as they work the best with TM in my experience, also an external charger, I never charge in my TM, easier to swap batteries in and out, charging externally...

Another thing to keep in mind, despite their similarities, they use different heating elements, I'm not entirely sure about what TB is using though I think it is a coil of some kind in ceramic? The TM has stainless steel ribbon in a spiral with ceramic pins holding it up, I think there is a bit more mass with its heater which is why it is not quite as quick to heat up but I think the vapor signature of the hits is a bit more full bodied, so I think it's just a bit more capable along with the better flavor capabilities!

When you get the TM, make sure to clean all the metal parts properly, unscrew the top pertaining ring to access the middle tube below and ring that holds the heater screen, you can clean all those with iso qtip scrub, pay attention to how it was assembled so you can put it back properly (some of us flip that screen ring though you can see in the thread more tips like that) the cooling unit especially, if you are planning to use that, and all glass should be cleaned first of course! I also then let it air out, there can be a little smell in the wood from the finish for many people, but it will dissipate... Yeah just check out the thread, if you have not already, start from the most recent page, and just work your way back skimming, there's a lot of good stuff in there but you have to really go through a lot of nonsense unfortunately lol

People say herborizer is the ultimate flavor, also the plug-in power...

Thanks for your input. I just placed an order, and for simplicity's sake, added all of the accessories to it (3D stem, water bubbler, etc). Will order a Grav and sapphire bead setup as well to test. I've really got to get off my duff and fire up that Herborizer this weekend to see what all the fuss is about.

I have 6 different stems for my TM, not counting what I put on the WPA. (Also I commissioned a new stem from someone one Reddit yesterday). That J-hook you linked is also my favorite glass hands down, though I do like my OWW inception stem.
So I guess my point is there are a lot of options.

Oh I totally forgot about the new bubbler stem, earlier reports seem very positive on that one in the thread! Yeah if you can afford it might as well try everything, right?

Oh yeah dude, I forgot you got it more for sparing special occasions, impressive resolve that you've held off so far!

I'm not such a fan of grav, I'd recommend just grabbing 4 mm and 6 mm quartz pearls from Amazon brand Beracky are legit, to use with the ditanium mouthpiece (which is also a 14 mm WPA) or one of the rogue wax works' acrylic titanium mouthpieces (which are also 14 mm WPA as well)

Someone was talking about how sapphire rubies are much harder than the quartz or glass stems, so it makes more sense to use quartz or glass beads especially for cooling btw the properties of sapphires and rubies make them better for heaters...

Nice, looking forward to you showing off that custom hook! Yeah I like using WPA because I have such a wide variety of glass to use it with, dry coolers and hooks, but sometimes water too or a dry bubbler (straight fab egg rigs are great dry with TM)

@JollyGreenGiant absolutely if you can, I strongly recommend ordering that Oregon Glass Blower triple right angle side car hook I linked, and the O'Connell inception stem is actually on sale for 20% off right now btw

The cognitive payload to figure out all that right angle stuff is a deterrent 😂

That $68 thing, it fits right into the device and I can just buy it as is and use it?

I think you mean the sidecar j-hook from Oregon Glass Blower? You'll need a WPA. You can get them straight from Tinymight, or Ed's TNT has a wood one. Or as @Shit Snacks mentioned, you can use a reversed RBT stem if you have them around.

Haha sorry to confuse you, it is just a glass jay hook, which is used like you would use a glass bubbler, with a standard 14 mm or 18 mm connection, however it is dry. That right angle hook just is a J hook that has those right angles which offer more cooling as the vapor hits the wall of glass, similar to the right angle of the TB... Make sense?

You use it with the WPA from TM, or alan@toasty-top.com can sell you a glass 14 mm WPA without a honeycomb screen, so you can just use a basket screen inside it, RBT stems backwards are 18 mm so you would need a larger size for the J hook because standard is 14 mm but if you write in the notes you want 18 mm he can do that too...

There is a guy in France who was making TM stems, and a similar hook, he was able to make a hook that could go direct into the TM without needing the separate WPA piece, but I don't know if he ever made it, and I don't know if he ever made his stuff available in the US yet, haven't heard about him in the TM thread in a while...

Yepyep, the standard for the OGB hook is 14 mm unless you write in the notes that you want 18 however, which is why I suggested Alan but I think TM also sells a 14 mm WPA now?? Not sure if it has that glass honeycomb screen too like the multi WPA...

I bought the connection adapter from TM in the order, will that suffice?

Which one did you order is the question? The answer is yes it will suffice, but you want to make sure you get the right connections is all, and I like getting every version of the WPA that TM has to offer as I said because there is a difference between using the ones with the honeycomb screen and the multi WPA has a 10 mm taper at the tip which is potentially less than ideal lol

Yeah that is the multi-WPA, I only use it with whole nugs or super chunky grind, it is a fun experience for tasty purity, however I often dump it out and break it up further load it into a basket screen WPA to finish off fully evenly...

Using a basket screen without a glass honeycomb fixed into the stem gives you more versatility with where you place the load, you could get them more even extraction if the load is further away potentially, or load more or less, a lot of versatility and variety with the glass stems and WPAs!

Got it. So basically all I need to buy is the $68 thing in the link you sent? And this Jay hook is noticeably superior to the TM 3D extra long glass Cooling stem and the TM bubbler I got?

Yessir, imo! Great ergonomically and the vapor path becomes more like the TB, only better being all glass, you will enjoy the 3D since it is one piece, but I find the triple right angle hook to produce the best vapor quality with my TM (using the TM upside down it is also more like the TB, where the heater is positioned above the chamber) ... The use style will be the same as TB basically, hold down the button, it will vibrate when it's at temperature instead of led color, you inhale for 5-15 seconds probably, then let go of the button and keep inhaling to clear (I feel like this is a bit more important when using the TM upside down, though I feel like it's important all the time with all my vapes lol)

I have not used the bubbler, but I think it is a different experience, with or without water, again I think the triple right angles do a lot to cool and condition the vapor, no debris or particles getting in, which is part of what makes the TB hits so nice because it has a similar type of vapor path... The TM however has I think a better heater (+temps), and can have a more pure path too, resulting in very strong flavorful vapor in my experience

No offense, but this sounds like a pretty geeked out custom setup, not clean, integrated system. Isn't this a little funky to store and use? IE: if you wanted to put the TB on a coffee table in front of you, it's just a cup - whereas this setup will be the TM, a separate glass pipe adapter next to it ready to be loaded or popping out of the top of it, then that big separate glass piece you'd have to always keep off to the side, since the TM goes in vertically, you couldn't store it all together, right?

If I understand it correctly, it's not really an apples to apples - as when you want to use this "setup" you have a bunch of equipment you've got to deal with (grinder, rolling tray or some sort of paper to put ground material on to load into the $5 pods or direct into the bowl each time), the water pipe adapter, the large bent glass cooling pipe and the actual Tinymight? That's a lot of kit. If you want to use it - you grind and load up the TM WPA with ground material, then affix the WPA to the TM device, then grab the glass pipe, invert the TM with WPA vertically and affix it to the glass pipe, take a few rips, then pull the TM/WPA from the glass pipe, clear it, set the glass pipe down, pull the WPA from the TM, remove the used material, and should you want a round two, repeat? That's involved. Even if you use the TM pods, and pre-load it, it still won't be as elegant as the TB with the potter, which is drop a couple pieces in the grinder, give it a few twists and you have four ceramic pots ready to go. To use it, pull out the stem, drop a pot in, push the stem back, then push a button. Round two? Pull out the stem, swap the used pot with a fresh one, pop the stem back in - and you're ready to launch.

The TB I can leave out on a table with minimal risk of it getting noticed, or damaged, but with the TM "kit" I have paraphernalia all over, some of which are quite delicate. With that in mind - other than the faster heat up time, I'm not sure why/when I'd use that setup over the Herborizer Ti, if I was going to have a whole "kit" out. I'll still give it a whirl, but this wacky setup sounds more like a battery powered on demand desktop, than a handheld.

I understand the appeal - quick heat up time, lack of wires, and high-end desktop levels of smooth flavor... but it doesn't really seem to be a like for like comparing that setup the TB, more like a more portable comparo to the Herborizer.
