Just wanted to thank @underdog and @underdogette again for what they do. Especially helped me over the past few years as I started to take up running. Just ran my third marathon this past weekend.

Honorable mention to @arb for the assist too. Cooling down all that vapor definitely helps my lungs and throat lol.

Can't wait to see the Alpha+!

Happy to be of service!

Sad to announce that my 2011 Ash Underdog was savagely destroyed and thrown in the garbage by my disgruntled ex. I've broken tons of pieces over the years, it comes with the territiory...but someone vandalizing such a dependable piece of work like the Dog is truly devasting. R.I.P 13459-700x700.jpg

Anyone know why these things are so dam expensive? $475 for a log vape is insane in my view. Plus shipping plus import taxes Id be looking at $650 for a vape which is just mental. Surely nobody is paying that ?

@nomadicsoul34 Exotic woods drive the price up. Some of these woods are quite expensive to source. Also, the units with the Alpha heater are more expensive.

They're not in stock right now, but you can get a walnut SC3 model for $215. That's right in line with other popular log vapes and gets you plenty of stems + VVPS in the package. Seems fair to me for a handmade MIUSA vape.

As for shipping and import taxes, yeah that sucks, but Underdog has no control over those things.

The Lost Dogs are another affordable option when available. I was able to score one a few months ago, wasn’t really looking to buy but couldn’t pass on it. A beautiful exotic burl with the newest heater (not Alpha), and the “defect” is a small nick in the wood that you can barely see with the burl. Paid $200 for the full package.

The Camp Fire was three years ago today. In some ways if feels like an eternity ago but in others it seems like just yesterday.

We're back on our feet these days and in a better place overall than before the fire and are very thankful for that and for all
the support and love the vaping community has shown us both before and since that day.

Right now we're working on building inventory for the holidays and are making steady progress. It's not all smooth sailing though
as we keep repeatedly getting burned on inventory we have no choice but to order from China.. mostly power supplies and cords.
Despite paying a premium for air shipping to avoid the cargo logjam at Long Beach we keep having shady vendors stick it on a boat
and either refuse further communication or just straight up tell us 'tough shit'. Wildly frustrating.

High quality commodity materials. Nearly irreplaceable rare woods. Unique handmade product. No economy of scale to lower price. Skilled labor in expensive first-world country. Fast air-freight shipping to international destination. Ridiculously expensive import taxes.

In reality our prices are too low to be sustainable and the higher end products are the least profitable and are largely subsidized by the margins
on accessories and products produced in higher volume to a standard design like our Vape Specials. At our current prices I'm not able to afford health insurance anymore, not able to employ a shop helper anymore and not able to have more than a few hours of Underdogettes help a week anymore.

There are certainly Log Vapes available for a lot less.. we have ones starting at about 1/3 that price ($200) and I'm pretty sure there's an eNano option in that price range as well. In addition I think there is an HI option at around $100 and some DIY ones for less than $100.

hahaha i get it … i’m hoping to gift one to a buddy to move him towards fucking combustion … but looking for me too (can’t be helped)!
That's so funny, I just gifted my old alpha to a smoker friend of mine, and he recently told me he's about ready to quit combusting completely. I hope I don't create another VAS addict.

Alpha direct draw stems are a great way to convert the smokers because the hits are so satisfying!

It’s been 2 months since I’ve had my Alpha dog and I feel like I can give legitimate review. It’s been a long long time since I’ve done a review because when I found Underdog about a decade ago, my VAS was cured. With the exception of picking up a Dynavap.

First of all, my Zap Myrtle Alpha dog is gorgeous. I absolutely love the grain of the wood. I find myself getting lost staring at the wood all the time, especially after a fresh application of underbutter.

Functionality wise, this vape is a work horse. I can get large clouds without much concern for cool down in between hits. My favorite stem is probably the GonG stem to hook up to my water pipes. With the alpha dog, i can pack huge bowl packs to get massive hits.

The direct draw stem is amazing and a close 2nd favorite stem. I feel like I’m drawing from a big glass vapor cigar. Huge punch of flavor with each hit. Really helps appreciate the terps.

I’ve found I really like the NonG for concentrates. Since I’ve begun growing my owI’ve used my trim and larf buds to make ice water hash and love to vape it through the NonG. A tiny bit of unbleached organic cotton in the NonG and a crumble of IWH makes for some really tasty and big hits.

To note, I love that there’s an included extension cord for the VVPS so I don’t feel limited in terms of accessibility.

In regards to the person who feels that UD’s are expensive, they’re worth every penny. If anything, Dave is definitely selling these at a cheap price point for what you get. High quality products constructed with one of a kind expertise. That in itself is hard to find in today’s capitalistic society, let alone the amazing customer service provided by Dave and his wife. To this day, I have yet to find the same level of customer service anywhere else. I had my last UD running for almost 10 years straight and I’m looking forward to another 5-10 years+ with my new Zap Myrtle UD.

Huge thanks to Dave and Amanda, and happy holidays to all!

I just received an Osage Orange Alpha, second or third hand from the entexchange.

I had a nice little walnut sc2 that I bought in 2016 and loved but always wanted more umph. So when this alpha came up, it was a no brainer.

I have the alpha powered by the refc ATM along with a halo. Alpha set to 12, with a boost to 12.35.
The alpha is EVERYTHING I wanted it to be. Once heated soaked, it pumps out tasty thick vapor with no technique or thought. Just nice steady draws. Having hit them back to back, I find the alpha vapor to be just as tasty as the halo, which I have found to be my barometer of flavor when comparing vapes. Not only does it perform, it’s downright gorgeous. I don’t know if I find any other vaporizers as beautiful as these dogs.
I also want to note the customer service. I ordered some stems and forgot to add some extra screens, I emailed on a weekend to ask to send PayPal transfer for screens to be included in order. Dave emailed back on a Saturday night to tell me that he will included the screens as a “holiday” gift. That is next level! This is a company I want to support for years to come.
I’m planning on gifting my brother that old walnut sc2 this Christmas, selling some desktops and commissioning another alpha in 2022

so i talked to @underdog (dave) and it looks like there won't be any new dogs until after the holidays ... between problems getting power supplies and cords, and some personal stuff they couldn't get any dogs completed for christmas. he hopes to drop small batches (depending on what power supplies, etc he can come up with at the time) after the holidays!

when i told him about my best friend who is battling cancer and still combusts here is what he said (keep in mind i was wanting to purchase a dog for my friend) ...

"I do have a couple Dogs (with kits) sitting around though from our 'community outreach' program where people have bought/donated vapes for us to distribute to users who are in need. I think someone battling cancer who could possibly be moved to reduce or stop their combustion habit would be a perfect example."

so my buddy has a walnut sc3 on the way to his house now thanks to dave ... i can't say how much that means to me ... dave is the man and i can't wait to purchase an sc3+ (to go with my sc-3 and sc-2)!
