High potency edibles

I'm sure your process is more streamlined, but is there much lost in all the transfers from mixing bowl to squeeze bottle to gummy trays?
Thanks for the recipe. I have used Lorann flavorings before and they make a quality product.
Per the recipe, I cook the liquid into a rolling boil, and pour it into a glass measuring cup. After 10 minutes or so, I add the color, flavor, and decarbed concentrate/litichin/MCT oil into cup and mix well. I pour all into a funneled squeeze bottle and let it cool a bit. I squeeze all the air from the squeeze bottle so air doesn't heat and expand, forcing liquid from the tip when the bottle is inverted. I fill all the cavities without wasting much at all.

You don't have to use Lorann flavorings. I have food-grade cinnamon oil, wintergreen oil, lemon oil, and anise, for example. Looking through my baking goods I found orange flavoring I'm willing to try, too.

The gummy material is the same scientists use to make cultures: gelatin and sugar. It promotes mold growth over time. I've read that citric acid retards mold growth. I add granular citric acid: 1/4 teaspoon per batch (unless its lemon - I like sour lemon). Additionally, I've been keeping them in the fridge.
I came across this YouTube video re: potassium sorbate. Might be worth an investigation.

I am so done trying to figure out a solid way to make edibles for myself. I just made another mess and wasted another 50-60 bucks. I don't even want to go into the details.

Can I just ask? If I just make an alcohol tincture with decarbed shatter and everclear, and just squirt my dosage amount into some juice, soda or tea. Will I acheive the same medicinal effects as if I incorporated it into a cake or candy with the mct and the lecithin and on and on and on...? Sorry I'm just really frustrated right now.
Thanks

Well I can’t say it would be exactly the same effects as there does tend to be differences between alcohol tinctures versus fat based edibles; but I would say they are certainly a viable option.

Thats also why I like capsules cause they are the least fussy and simplest to do.

If it's 190 everclear then yes. If not, maybe. But an infused oil works pretty much the same, and might be easier.

I have a nova ardent and a magic butter machine. The mbm recently died. I have NEVER been able to get effects from decarbed bud just eaten, I ate a gram and a half and felt nothing. I am really interested in trying to decarb some extracts to just take like a pill or whatever. Do you think I should be good with the og nova or should I get a levo or what's the cats meow right now?

I also have the MBM and Nova. I use the MBM when infusing larger quantities, usually decarbed cbd flower but sometimes bud.
These days for bud, for smaller batches, I use a sous vide for infusing, Nova for decarbing.
The results are very excellent, at least as good as the MBM, garnering perhaps an even more intensive and deeper slower infusion.
Which I why I bought it in the first place.
I picked one up used for 60, as an experiment, for bud.
But it's also, it turns out, a fantastic kitchen tool also.

If you're comfortable with the decarbing process or have ABV, why not start with the very simple firecracker?

tools/ingredients: ABV or ground decarbed fresh bud, graham crackers, peanut butter, coconut oil, oven thermometer, aluminum foil, toothpick.

Place thermometer inside stove and preheat at "bake" setting until oven is stable at 305-310.

Tear off a sheet of aluminum foil about 6" wide - just enough foil to fold up a graham cracker sandwich tightly. Place on cutting board.

Place two graham crackers on foil and spread healthy gobs of creamy peanut butter on each. I use either Trader Joe's or Smuckers. It's supposedly more effective if it's unsalted peanut butter. But use creamy.

(The graham crackers that I use are Trader Joe's cinnamon only because they're tougher than their regular graham crackers and won't break so easily when you spread peanut butter on it.)

Grind up some bud, finely, and sprinkle as much as you want on each cracker. I find that a little less than a joint's worth is just about right. It's a personal preference.

Then take a toothpick and sort of swirl the bud into the peanut butter on each cracker; you want the bud buried inside the peanut butter. And then carefully drip some coconut oil on top of each cracker, move it back and forth with the toothpick so it's a nice sheen throughout the crackers.

Then join the crackers together like a sandwich but don't press too tightly. You don't want to squeeze the insides out.

Then fold up the firecracker with foil and make it tight to prevent vapor from escaping.

If the oven is preheated and ready, drop the firecracker in it and bake for exactly 23 minutes. After the 23 minutes immediately open the oven door to prevent the firecracker from continuing to bake.

Allow to cool and throw in freezer.

Firecrackers, like all edibles, require about 90 minutes after eating before you'll feel the effects so be patient and don't overdue it. Better to work your way up dosage wise than the reverse.

This is the method I use, others have slightly different variations.
I don't deal with concentrates so I can't advise you in that direction but this is a good simple way to make highly potent edibles.

I have found with both abv and properly decarboxylate thc/a. Baking firecrackers is not needed unless you want to eat it warm.

That's cool, I'm not sure I'd love the taste of toasted bud mixed with peanut butter, but actually it doesn't sound half bad!

I'm making a new batch of infused honey. My goal is 90 mg/tablespoon, or 30 mg/ teaspoon. There are 32 tablespoons in 16 oz.

I'm decarbing 3.5 grams of 800mg/gram concentrate =2,800mg of THC. After, decarb, I'll add about 5 grams of sunflower lecithin and a few grams of MCT oil (to act as carrier) and mix w/an electric mixer. I've heated the honey in a water bath so that I can more easily mix the emulsified concentrate into the honey.

I use it in tea mostly. Because the honey is emulsified w/lecithin-concentrate, concentrate doesn't float to the top: it's evenly distributed in the tea.

After all the bother of trying to get Everclear, when I was making canna sugar recently, I mistakenly grabbed regular vodka. The sugar turned out fine. Since then I just use whatever alcohol I have on hand. Last batch of sugar I doubled infused, just to try it. It acts fast after being spun. More like a tincture than an edible.

Vodka is just a dilluate everclear, that's how we make vodka in polska.. Spirytus

For tincture u need 80 proof at least (80 not 180), but that lower proof means water. Water takes more chlorophyl than oil from plants. So with vodka u need to water-cure even more and Longer maceration as it's harder to concentrate. But it works.

But did u do it with ABV, or decarbed bud, or concentrates ?
The taste may be the issue with low concentrated tincture

I did a lot of fruity/candy vodka, but they all have taken months to be made..

I've had great success decarbing shatter and then using my infused MCT for tinctures. Everclear tastes like caca . I like to decarb 3 grams of shatter , and use some infused MCT to make my tinctures. It all fits very nicely in my vials and each full eyedropper measures out to 100 mg THC. I still do a lot of baking , but I had to cut back on the butter, and sugar :D .

The "trouble" with using a lower proof alcohol is if you reduce it. The alcohol goes first leaving the concentrate in a lot of water. Since yours is mixed with sugar, then evaporated, it works. In tinctures it doesn't.

I'll have to try infusing sugar some day. I've done honey, and maple syrup but not sugar.

Why i have asked if she did with abv, flower or concentrate.
If u just diluate concentrate (shatter, qwiso, qwet, feco...) vodka is good, as its lower solvent proprieties are not needed for only concentrate dillution.

Everclear tastes like caca
I've read eveything and the opposite..
Oil tasting like shit, and tincture being lighter tasting

everclear tastes like fire with a mouth puckering flavour/sensation like chewing on orange peel. and I'm a fan of straight hard liquor but straight everclear is difficult to swallow

I've drunk spirytus (192 proof) when younger (not so long ago, born in 1992). bottle cap shooter, it was disapearing in my mouth before reaching my throat.
But with tincture u can evaporate it, the issue with tincture taste is not enough concentration.
if one droplet is enough, 190 proof have no taste.

I don't get past the fire part, lol. I'd much rather have an infused mct oil, than a tincture.

Anymore im getting to almost like the canna taste. Repetition I guess. I've been using a mct oil infusion that has a lot of terpenes in it, at first I did not like the taste, now I actually like it. I do keep a tincture around though, mostly for infusing a beer or something.

Hey @macbill, you have the same little decarb unit I bought. I started a thread on it, but haven't reposted because I haven't used it enough. I have found so far that it does what it supposed to do and I'm pretty happy with it.

I do have 190 proof everclear so my next batch will be pretty simple. I will decarb 1 gram of shatter, which only seems to be between 600-650mg per gram around here. I will add 30ml of everclear and dissolve the shatter. Done. If I calculated right, I hope to have around 20mg per 1ml of solution. I agree that straight everclear tincture is harsh, but I just plan on squirting a 1ml dose into tea or some drink and using it as an edible and not a tincture under the tongue. If it works the way I hope, then I might just do that than all the other edible methods I've looked at.
