Sorry to hear about your motar Les, be nice to have a new, shiny one to play with anyway right ;). I'll play about with the wattage settings myself too as it's finally here, the crystal:D.

Looks smaller than pictured by @Hackerman but it's defiantly the first one pictured on this page same as his, must be trick of the light against the motar. Not tried it yet and won't for a few days now. First thing I tried was the original parts from the motar inside the crystal, as @LesPlenty has said nope they don't fit which is a shame.

My kangertech mod only gets to 40w max so I'll see what it can do but I'd guess it's to underpowered and a 75w or 100w pico would be more appropriate for it, will come in handy if/when I grab either a m22 or a Sai.

Jury is out on which if any as if the Crystal does the job why bother spending more. Then again VAS is a bitch!

I was using my Crystal last night and I still say the Motar is the clear winner. The Crystal mouthpiece gets pretty hot after a bunch of hits. I adapted a whip to it and it just doesn't produce the clouds that the Motar does.

Plus, as someone said, tipping any rosin vape with a straight mouthpiece causes the rosin to run to one side of the cup. The crackpipe mouthpiece on the Motar helps to keep everything level.

I also preheat the Crystal for 10 seconds before a hit. Then, a 10 second hit. By then, the Crystal is so heated that it stays hot and acts more like a nail and allows 2 or 3 hits after releasing the mod button.

Not using the Quarta much yet but running it at 10w and 15w seems to work. Should be easy on battery life.

The crystal got its first run out last night, ended well enough with dialling in and practice. Began with a small rice grain of sour skittles and a wattage level of 25w, no mode. I got a few hits very whispy vapour hits and some essence of the oils flavour so I raised it straight up to 40w (max in my kangertech tech mod).

At 40w I did much more damage. Q tipped the bowl out and loaded a larger (possibly double) sized dab into the crystal of green gummy oil. Pulsed the power button on 40w for five seconds, let off, then pressed down constantly again. Seems the oil likes to migrate to the edges but with the heater around the edge I didn't get any splatter.

Vapour production was much better with more oil and heat. very very flavourful and I'd say I've still got enough left in the bowl for another test run. Terps were so strong I coughed a little which is unlike me. In the limited testing I found that pulsing the power got me what I wanted.

Few cons Ive found are the unit does get hot around the base like @Hackerman pointed out. The tip of the mouth piece however was perfectly comfortable but towards the bottom of the device it can get really hot with intermittent firing of the mod. Bowl size could be better as it's easy to load a rice grain of oil in it pointy end first, otherwise it can smear against the side walls (not a huge problem as they get heated anyway) if it's runny or blobby.

Pros, flavour was great, looked discreet enough over the motar so I feel I could dab on the go. Felt and looked good on the mod, impressed with the build quality, seems well made and sturdy. Glass mouthpiece is fairly thick and unlikely to crack or chip. Feel I need more wattage/power to get it dialled in just right. A pico at 50/55w, with a certain mode will do the trick and give more clouds and keep the flavour going just right.

I'll do some more testing at home but overall I'm quite impressed, much like when I got the motar. The goal was to have a unit I could take out in public unlike the motar crack pipe and I'd say it hits that brief but needs a little more punch to get the best from it.

I wonder why the lower-powered Motar gets a heat sink and the 40 to 60w Crystal doesn't?
I have some stainless steel heatsinks on order but then found these,
https://www.fasttech.com/product/5843002

or
https://www.fasttech.com/product/3538502

Which would work best, S/S, Copper or Brass?
I also have this on order as my Pico 75 shuts down as 'Unit Too Hot',
https://www.fasttech.com/product/7825804

I was going to wait for the M22 with mod etc for a higher wattage unit but that could still be a way off.

It is a odd one @LesPlenty no heat sink when the motar does have it feature. I don't find the heat uncomfortable at its tip but I does get rather hot at it's base. Vapour is cool tho so I can run with that.

Do think it needs a tad more power tho as I'd definitely like to avoid a preheat if possible. Adding it to a better mod with more features and raw power should work really well. I was going to get this Les as I've been suggested a pico for this, the m22 and/or the Sai.

100w over 75w, works with both 18650 and the 21's too. Better to over shoot than under I'm thinking?

Copper is the best heat conductor of the three materials iirc, but it all depends on the shape and fit, too. So you will have to try them all out I guess. :D

After the recommendation @LesPlenty I ordered a Pico 21700 for my motar from fasttech.com a while ago.
Surprise, surprise, I had almost forgotten, today the pico arrived and seems to be legit and is just charging as i write.
Now where did I put that Motar again?:D

Now I found that Motar again and with the Pico and the recommendations of, I think, Hackerman and LesPlenty set it to 25w loaded a real tiny amount of rosin et voila.

Time to give thanks to FC and all the helpful posters. Would have taken me alot more time to get to the first puff.

It worked perfectly fine. Taste is nice.
I love that it is all glass and one can see what is happening in the bucket and with the coil.
It seems decently efficient for a "pen".

Of course it is not stealth with the crack pipe appearance.
The rosin has tendency to climb the walls of the quartz bucket that are not heated, as in every quartz bucket I saw.
No coils or so available. You just buy a new one if it fails.

I have come to the conclusion that the experience of "pens" is quite behind that of e-nails/e-banger or banger-torch as it is today. I wait till something tasty and strong built emerges.
A lot of people seem to like the Puffco Peak, but I hear everyone talk about they second, third, unit they own and that they do not last. I have absolutely no interest in spending 300-400 every year for portable dab paraphernalia :D and to import it on my cost. And even less if it is mediocre in performance.

Now considering that the price of the Motar including the Pico is lower than other bucket-pen solutions for even a better function. I would recommend it for someone that wants to go the "pen" route.

My other pen just had a malfunction and I might get lucky and be able to give it back to the shop.
Would save me 130 bucks. :)

Glad your digging the Motar @Sick Vape I still have mine but the Longmada Crystal has taken its place for oil on the go. Similar sort of thing to the Motar but without the crack pipe drawbacks, plus it's got a heated "fence" set inside the Quartz to stop the rosin climbing the sides as much, does seem to work pretty well for £16. Nice big bowl too for filling with extract unlike the Sai for example

Two issues I've encountered however are pretty big. Firstly, the glass mouthpiece is fragile, mine has cracked simply taking it apart for cleaning. Not a massive issue but could do with being made thicker, some tape on the outside has just secured it in place, very Heath Robinson;).

Secondly and more importantly the dish itself is set wonky. This leads to the oil angling to one side very very slightly. Again it's not the end of the world and I'd expect it to be addressed once more units are created but being anal about such things it does irritate me somewhat.

With both of those points being addressed I'd still grab one from FastTech to compliment your Motar. I run it on a higher wattage than the Motar (crystal set at 40w, Motar at 25-30w) but it could go to 50w imo without losing the flavour spectrum. My kangertech mod only does 40w max but I'm keen to get a AVS m22 in the future so I'll buy a new mod box (with more power and functions) and see if a higher setting is better.

I have run my Crystal at 60w, the other drawback is the glass gets very hot pretty quickly and my wonky bowl got loose and was saying Atomiser Low on my mod so I pulled it apart and found some type of adhesive between the glass and the base had let go! (maybe riding the max recommended 60w was too much).
I have sent Fastech a message to see what they can do. I have my replacement Motar now but it is getting little use now I have an Airistech Headbanger.

Anyone know a trusted USA seller who has these (the Motar) in stock?

I am wanting to get a backup and milehighsupplies is out of stock and eBay and Amazon are both strike-outs.

I did see a couple places... ezvapes and overnightvapes.com, etc but I like to deal with someone I know or, at least, get a referral from a good source.

Thanks

I have purchased 2 from here,
https://www.fasttech.com/products/9624538
I also got a Crystal from them that did not survive my ultrasonic cleaner, I sent them a pic of the failed insulator and they have sent me a replacement that may show anytime soon...I hope.
You can pay a little extra at the checkout to upgrade the shipping method if you need it sooner rather than later.

Nice price there @tennisguru1, I have a couple that looks the same but I paid about $3 more each for mine and got this at the same time (but they were only $42 then),

Not really appropriate here though as it is far from portable.
The Motar is still a good little unit that punches way above its price bracket but I am finding Airistech gear easier to live with...snorting rosin with a Headbanger is fun and a new atty is about $3.

Without question, copper is best. However, link shows it as discontinued.

Good cheap fun for sure, I have not used my Motar for a while but I have fond memories, not knocking it, I just have so many other options lately. The main thing that turned me to other devices is simplicity, built for purpose units instead of battery mods at least you will have the simpler version using their power/battery...too many battery mod settings for all the different devices gets old quickly.
