I have a fixed gear bike based on a Jamis Sputnik steel frame with a carbon fork that I haven't ridden in a few years. Y'all are making me want to tear that apart and return it to peak condition. That was fun to ride around the neighborhood.

Do it man! My primary whip is an old 07 or 08 Schwinn Madison I have set up as a fixed gear. Its a lovely way to ride if you don't live in the mountains or similar. I just did a ~20 mile ride this morning, that and a small bowl is a great way to start the day.

@vapirtoo I'm with ya, been there countless times, have been 'Doored' more than would care to joke about anymore.
yelled at, even kicked hahaha, didn't work out well for him. Even had the Ol' "Get a fucking Car" when riding in Jersey, that was hilarious.
Its crazy to say however sometimes I miss the insanity of city riding, trails are great but for me get boring very quick, i need to mix it up with hills, curves, even a few random Jimbob's in their shiny souped up F-150's who thinks your better off in a ditch than on HIS road, lmao.

Soo true , , here down the New Zealand Kapiti Coast, it's perfect winter weather, 18/20 degrees Celsius during daytime and night's are around12c.
sooo much nicer than summertime temps.i did a 29 km ride today in the bush , took around 5.5 hours riding time.(very technical tracks,(self created those of today over 2 years of sawing cutting grading etc..😅, which is an other massive satisfying, thing to do in live),Maaannn! the bush was stunning, flowering Rata , flowering suppel jack, flowering Kotekekohe, etc, what a sight:love:,+ the high numbers of bees and humble bee's ,and Tui's, honybatchers, etc. just felt grateful and humble with Nature.

If ever there was a garden of Eden, New Zealand is it.
Now that we have that travel bubble going on, maybe I should make some plans...

Yeah. The fixed gear alleycat races they have in major cities look like so much fun. There are checkpoints you have to check in at a certain order, but how you get to each checkpoint is up to you. There is no set route you have to follow.

But I'm way to out of shape for anything like this at the moment. But it's fun to watch!

Yeah they’re a lot of fun. The city I live in used to do an annual Stuporbowl alleycat. The various stops were all pubs, and iirc you had to knock out back a pint at each. There were folks who took the race seriously and pleeeeeenty of people who used it as a low key bicycle pub crawl.

Exactly. Enjoy it as you like!
I live near a large university in a college town.
There are bicycle pub crawls once in a while here. Always a good time.

In catalan and spanish we named it BICIFARRA and was one of the biggest nights in my district recent history.
Going by foot (safer!) we named it 'Bolimpiades' and did it 3 times. With 14 stops they have been hard performance episodes like icelandic sagas!

Went on a 24 mile bike ride with my good friend, first time in over a year.
We have been training together virtually on Zwift, but this was us riding
together in the real world. After 40 plus years of riding together everything
fell into place with Big Mike pushing hard through the wind and me an inch or less
off his wheel. I took the front on the hills, but the wind was kicking my ass.
We were both high as kites from two hits each off the Vapbong!
I'm all into metrics, with cadence and heart rate monitors, while Big Mike says,
" Fuck all that bitch ass shit and just ride!" AHMEN

Oh yeah those wild bike ride vids. through traffic looked lame compared
to the shit we were into back in the days.
Try drafting a city bus downhill at about 40mph only to have the bus driver
slam on the brakes forcing you to brake so hard that your rear wheel is way off the ground.
The driver then accelerates hoping that your ass is left in the street. I guess I had
pissed that driver off drafting so close on Queens Blvd. Later to be named the
Blvd of death to elderly pedestrians!
Good Monday morning group!

Completed the Farm Ride Century route in Amherst MA Saturday.

Like a boss.

I went to RISE dispensary while I was there and got 3 live resin carts, some sugar wax, some live sugar, and some live badder. I took the Jet Fuel sativa live resin cart with me (with a name like that, how could I not) and had a half a 40mg edible at the beginning and ate the other half in the middle.

After training by doing 3 metric centuries (were probably longer than 62 miles but were less than 70) in the 2 weeks prior in 90 degree conditions, 100 miles in 75 degrees with 8mph wind was a laugher. Completed in under 7 hours which included pacing a much slower friend for the first 40 miles as a strategy to not sprint the whole first 25 miles, which is my usual adrenaline dumping self. I stopped at all 3 rest areas, never more than 10 mins maybe each time though. Legs weren't hardly sore, but I was definitely feeling drained after.

At 265lbs on a 20lb hybrid, I make all the casual roadies in full kit look positively sluggish. *shrugs*

*Chicks dig trackstands as well.

Every 12lbs you lose is supposed to = 1mph gained on a bike.

When I lose the next 40lbs, I'll be about 3.5mph faster on average. That probably means 20mph averages over a century with ease? I feel like I've been training with a sand vest on for over a decade and now that I'm properly inspired to bring my diet in line I'm fascinated with what my strength to weight ratio might be like in short order.

Awww, nice to find lots of like minded folk - vape and go!!!

I still have a Charge Plug - flip-flop on the rear, never rode it fixie except for a bit of messing about, but used it regularly to eat miles across the city where I used to live. Also been inverted plenty of times by busses, cars etc. luckily I seemed to bounce

Now I live up on the moors in West Yorkshire and it's utterly useless - the hills are so steep it is impossible to ride up them and also to stop going down them even pulling as hard as I can on the brakes - the brake pads do nothing - they're just rim eaters and it's absolutely terrifying

I invested in a proper mountain bike early last year, but being a bit of a newbie biker on the hills I didn't want to end up being the jerk in hospital with a broken leg during the pandemic, so I put it away for the time being.

More generally, in respect to this whole thread, I love a vape, just a little, and to go running over the moors. I am not sure if I would class myself as an 'athlete' but then most folk I know get out of breath walking the routes I run, so maybe I am.

I also like my home brew beer, so have to dedicate a certain amount of trouser space for those

Must be a beautiful place to live!

When I did road bikes, I always had a computer to monitor my pace and distance and time. I've never had any measuring devices for my mtb riding but since this year I'm getting out a bit I figure I might as well keep an eye on things like distance and elevation and time and heart rate, etc., just for kicks. I logged onto a cylcling gear website this morning and they were advertising a popular brand's new entry level running watch (go figure on a cylcling website). But I looked into it a bit. Then looked a bit more and decided to bite on a vivoactive 4. I may be shedding a lb. or two this season

To stay on topic, a couple of rides ago I left the house in a rush due to time constraints. I left my water and my flower home. Can't remember the last time I rode without flower, but I'm very clear that using it is the only way to go for me. Might not be able to match kel's [EDIT: I meant VapeEscapist] level of usage but even so no doubt my mindset is through the roof better throughout the ride when I vape before.

Nope that's not me... but the landscape looks familiar and yes, it is a very beautiful place to live ☺️

Best wishes with your riding and super new watch, I had a look and it seems very cool!!

Not my thing at all though, I don't even take my phone with me most of the time

Not my style either. I don't wear a watch or rings so it will be a first for me. It's been a couple of years since I looked into a fitness device that would work for my mtb riding and back then GPS watches were a little more expensive. Most people used (still use?) phones. But I don't ride with a phone and I don't like taking up space on my handlebars for mounting them. Now, there's more of a mid-level GPS watch market. Prices have dropped for some useful tech. So I'll give it a go.

Yes, it is tempting, I went through a period about 2/3 years ago where I considered the same.

I hope it works out for you and is lots of fun!!! :)

"...no doubt my mindset is through the roof better throughout the ride when I vape before."

This is you and me, bro/sis! I like to vigorously exercise at the end of the day, typically 4:30(maybe I should bump it up to 4:20!) except in deep winter, when, being retired, I'd head out earlier to snowshoe or xc ski. Unless I'm with non-doping friends, I always like to take a toke or two right before vigorous exercise. If I'm with good friend non-dopers, I will ask permission, which is always given, and then have my toke or two. Less than once a month I'll forget my vape kit--water, small first aid kit, compact repair kit, sunscreen, and a loaded vape are my essentials-- on the counter as I head out the door for a ride or formerly a hike or run. Sometimes I'm surprised that I can still enjoy myself without that stoney incentive. But I never stay out as long or tackle elevation gain unless I've had that toke. If I'm out for more than an hour, l most always take a couple more tokes at the turn-around. I feel very fortunate to have retired to a beautiful place with great outdoor stuff to do and to have quality outdoor equipment--and fantastic legal weed to vape.

Been training on this nearly 50 mile route. During 90 degree conditions more often than not. Have an extension of this route that can include Manhattan at the beginning making it about 65 miles. I just eat breakfast, eat a 40mg edible, vape, and roll.

After doing the century I wanted to see if I could do this route with only stopping for water and have managed to do it in about 4 hours flat on average. @vapirtoo heading out to do this route Monday morning for the 6th time this year.... tag along! :D
