Underdog Log Vapes

The only hostility expressed here has been from just a couple of angry vape users who absolutely REFUSED to take any help or advice for how to get the most out of their devices.

The manufacturer IMMEDIATELY offered full refunds regardless. He took back 4 devices. Two of these were so filthy that he doesn't think it is worth it to clean them up for resale. Yet somehow he's a liar, and we're all brainwashed.

I posted multiple times, as did others, with advice in an attempt to HELP. Most, if not all, of the offered help, regardless of the source, was either actively sneered at or just plain ignored.

I don't care how long you've been a pothead, that doesn't mean that you know everything there is to know about using a log vape. When advice offered in a true feeling of fellowship in order to help is spat on and ignored, what are we to do?

So 4 people out of thousands and thousands wouldn't take advice and learn to properly use their devices, but now this is a hostile environment. (The others ALL accepted help and figured it out)

Stop watching this thread, stop coming here and telling us we are all lying idiots, and I guarantee you, that is the last of the hostility on here. Those people bring it with them, vomit it all over the rest of us, and then walk away until the next time they decide to needlessly vent their spleen, just because they can.

They got their money back. And all the devices were tested and do work properly. So all four of them were too impatient or too high to bother to learn to use the device properly, they just demand that it work exactly like whatever they are already used to. They are looking for something that works just like what they are accustomed to but works way better. Unrealistic expectations.

THEY GOT THEIR MONEY BACK, no questions asked. The only reason to come back on here and call us all lying idiots is to troll.

I think you're emotionally attached, you're having emotional responses. Your main critique is that this person vapes too much weed. Please, please take a step back and look at the amount of hostility over this.

Let me ask you a question, how many alphas dropped this drop. How many users bough them, how many had a bad experience.

That's what we're talking about, there are not thousands of alphas, or thousands or happy alpha users, there's a few of you, and you are very angry when someone doesn't like it.

Edit - I really need to acknowledge how cool it was that they got their money back no questions asked! But, then to come back, and make the post with 0 evidence, just confirming the bias that already exists with the other small group of users from this drop. It's a bad look.

Oh bullshit. I never said any such thing.

And we're not the angry ones. LOL! No one normally here called anyone "brainwashed" or "liars".

There ARE thousands of Underdog log vapes out there. Of course they're not all alphas, so what?

Again, you folks are just trolling.

Did you have one and return it?
I did not, I actually almost bought one this drop, but decided to wait after a different large vape purchase.

Unfortunately this has all made me not want to.

*edit* I would hazard a guess I'm not the only one either.

I'm sorry, look at your responses over the last hour, read them over again and tell me you are not angry. That's what so wild about this. I don't get how you guys don't realize how bad your reactions look for the maker. Unfortunately he involved himself too.

This is brutal...

Yes, it is. Please stop coming here and brutalizing us.

Again. We have been called brainwashed. We have been called liars.

All anyone ever said here, in multiple efforts to help, was that the people having trouble might not be doing it right. This has, in fact, been shown to be the case - when all 4 returned devices were found to be fully functional.

Even the two that were returned in filthy, non-salable condition.

That circular logic, these vapes didn't make it into the hands of an independant tester, they made it into the hands of a manufacturer who has a interest (even if that interest is totally subconscious) to not come on here and talk about how his vapes underperform after you and other users like you had such a bad reaction to negative feedback.

If he did, then all the shit you guys talked wouldn't have been true, it would have made this whole thread look ridiculous.

Now, I'm not asking for him to go in and send this to the UN for testing. I'm saying this thread has painted this man into a corner that I don't envy, and it's on the posts related to THIS drop.

As a collector of wood vapes, I was very interested in the Alphadog after hearing reports of its massive power for a log online. This is far from being my first vaporizer, I’ve owned over 20 unique vaporizers in the past and am currently building an all burl wood collection from my favorite makers (including Lamart, Ed’s TnT, Mistvape, Dynavap aftermarket). I’ve been using a log near daily since my first Woodscents in 2017. To say I’m incapable of figuring out a vaporizer I spent nearly $400 on is a bit silly.

I kept my experience with this device to myself because to the best of my knowledge, Dave and Amanda are good people and I would hate to hurt their brand. But the fact of the matter is the device I received from them, despite being very pretty, did not perform equal to its price tag. I spent between 3-4 days using the Alpha side by side with my Woodscents, trying to figure out any way to get a consistent experience from one bowl to the next.

Sometimes, I would combust at 11.6, then the vape would stop producing vapor all the way up to 12.2 on the dial. I check this thread, you all say the vape needs 30 seconds between draws because it’s a log (strange, my Woodscents log has never had the limitation?). Then I do give the vape 30 seconds between hits, and my herb still comes out half green. I check this thread, you all are saying that the vape not equally darkening herb is normal usage for the device. Flowerpot comparisons aside, I could not wrap my mind around the fact I had just spent nearly $400 on a device that couldn’t hold a stable temperature and couldn’t fully utilize the herb I was putting in it. I would’ve much preferred using the herb in any of my other devices. In the end, my bad experience was righted by the company because they graciously offered a return, so what would be the point in causing a fuss? But then I check this thread, and see everybody else who has the same experience as me being insulted by not only some very dedicated Underdog “fans”, but by the manufacturer themself. It’s sad to see. My Madrone Burl makes 6 units from that drop returned, by the way.

But hey, let’s just chalk it up to inexperienced users right? :mental:

So you're in here talking shit about a device you never used?
No, I'm not at all, I have no experience with the device, I'm critiquing you, and your reaction, and your posts, and the others like you.

*edit* sorry I keep editing, but I mean you clearly aren't even reading my posts, this is the definition of an emotional reaction.

some people have different usage habits then you, also some people like to fully vape their pricey flower.
So all four of them were too impatient or too high to bother to learn to use the device properly, they just demand that it work exactly like whatever they are already used to.
I really didn't want to post again on this but I feel compelled to add a few things:

- There is absolutely no reason to shame someone for their level of herb usage. As curry says, these vapes are meant to be efficient extractors but this is exactly what I was unable to get, personally. I went through a lot of herb when I got my alpha also, experimenting with many variables and trying the tips posted before I voiced my issues. Regardless of your intentions, some of your responses come across as emotional, off-base and, frankly, condescending. While I wouldn't have used some of the language some folks have in their posts, I don't think those voicing their concerns are trolling at all.
- Out of respect for UD and appreciation for their support, I spent a long while cleaning and carefully packaging the unit for return. I am confident it was clean, essentially "like new". I thank them for everything and wish them and the pack the best.
- My issue was never that I couldn't get clouds. I could (though not consistently). But every bowl I tossed still had generous amounts of green. I dont expect the AVB to be completely even, but the level of uneven extraction wasn't okay to me and I dont really believe that its close to being fully extracted like some folks have claimed. I totally admit, this could 100% be that I wasn't using it correctly.. but I have plenty of experience with vapes and I spent a good bit of time experimenting with the alpha and happily followed every single tip posted here (the SS Lite stem was the only one where I could get close to even extraction). Please don't tell me I was too impatient or too high to figure out how to use a vaporizer and assume that I didn't appreciate and heed the tips posted in this thread. This does UD a disservice.

@sanfordyeti my feelings exactly.

I hope we can end this convo swiftly for the sake of UD.

It would help a LOT if people would stop telling us how bad, stupid, lying, and brainwashed we are.

We love our vapes and they do work for us. I don't care what experience you have with other vapes, or even other LOG vapes, all of these devices worked properly and two were returned in unsalable condition.

No one was singled out for that. And frankly I'm tired of people coming on here and calling us names and saying we (specifically, ME apparently in this case) said things we never said, or were "condescending" or whatever other insults have been hurled at us.

As far as my comment about "too impatient or too high" (to learn the proper way to use a UD), I think its hilarious that you focus on the second part, which was said facetiously because this IS a weed forum, after all - and ignore the first part. Somehow I doubt "impatient" makes it into the top 10 list of Horrible Horrible Insults.

Yup, I posted some snarky comments after someone - actually several someones - called us all brainwashed liars. Sue me.

But regardless, stop coming on here and calling us names.

Hey there, proud owner of a new hickory alpha and I love it. Was completely blown away!! But my special thanks to the main dog for the ss stem. I love micro dosing and it fits so snug on the heater. It's exactly what I didn't know I needed :) and it also cools down so quickly!!

Just one question, how do I clean it? Not sure I can dip it in iso right? Once again thank you!!!
Congrats!.....enjoy

You are not displaying any hostility to me! I think you particularly may have given a bit of a expectation about this device that wasn't accurate, that's not your fault, that was your best inference. You've done a lot to show how the device works, videos, discussion, etc.

You appear to be having a great experience, and are comparing it subjectively to other experiences. There's nothing wrong with that.

I think there's a problem with believing others aren't having a good subjective experience. They appear to be having a bad subjective experience in teh same key points, and they appear to be related to the "proper" function of the device. As an efficient microdoser.

Reading through this thread coming up on this drop, I would not have said this was an efficient microdoser, I would have said this was a capable heavy log.

It's possible all of this is chalked up to that subjective experience. But let's just say, after reading through this thread and all the replies, I don't necessarily trust that.

Thank you I appreciate the candor.
I never said micro doses........ever.
I also stir and don't do black abv.
My abv looks the same as when a volcano is done for a point of reference.
I also don't use a direct draw and never made any claims about those other than Mrs.arb likes the glass one.
I stand by every single thing I have said.

I sent my unit back totally clean, brushed the heater off, torched the screens and iso washed the stems. I don’t really believe these accusations, if they are true it would be a tragedy as you were very accommodating to accept a return. I would never mail dirty stems or vapes. Thats bad practice.

I didn’t even have mine long enough to “gunk up” or build residue up in the heater at all, I don’t know how anyone else managed to do that in a week. Not to mention the fact the residue only builds up in the stem not the heater. I also know for a fact that the units that were returned were used no more extensively then mine.

You seem to imply that the customers who had trouble are inexperienced vapers who ruined their “flawlessly performing” units and now you have to go into the red to repair them. I have a picture of my unit during one of the last test sessions I did, I cropped the heater out so you can see how little “avb buildup” there is on the heater. Nothing I couldn’t brush away before returning. https://ibb.co/rZNj8p1

The claims on here that the people having trouble are just stupid and new to vaping is very frustrating, I have plenty of experience with logs and log-likes to know how to use and what to expect from a vape at this point. I was having a pretty crummy experience with my e43, and I loved my experience with my enano- I thought a heavy log would be more efficient, consistent, and reliable then my e43 as a desktop. so I decided to buy an alpha based on multiple users recommendation that it was the heaviest hitting, largest load accommodating log on the market.
The results I got (even after extensive fiddling and trial and error) didn’t match up to any of what I expected based on what I read online. I haven’t had to play with my enano or other vapes for longer then 5 minutes to get consistent results, I am not sure if maybe the underdogs are super technique heavy but I wasn’t under that impression, in fact I purchased it because I knew logs to be dead simple to use- and after toying so much with the e43- I didn’t want to have to play with another vape to get good results.

The vape itself seems to be having a bit of an identity crisis, some users claim its a flowerpot killer (why else would you be posting videos of it side by side with flowerpot videos?) while others are loading less then a dynavap cap and saying its a master extractor (both of which- in my experience I found it to have trouble with big loads and thorough extraction)

On the subject of avb, being told that pictures with inconsistent avb coloring and visible green in the picture are fully extracted https://ibb.co/rwnYB5Q is beyond frustrating- a user linked a picture of their alphas avb recently:

I see loads of unspent thc in that picture.

Here are some pictures of the avb my alpha was producing on day 4 ( I had put about a half ounce through it at this point during many hours of testing)

now heres an example of the kind of even consistent avb I was expecting https://ibb.co/PZLRK8Y

It feels weird to me folks (Including dave) are choosing to blame it all on user error even though a good portion of the people who bought units last drop all had a similar experience, are people seriously trying to imply all of our bud is bad, and that each one of us is managing to use them wrong? Thats seems highly unlikely.

I apologize for the lack of formatting in this post, as I don’t use fuck combustion much.
Off subject, from the pic you posted of the heater, that grain is beautiful. Looking at your preferred avb, looks like what I get from my enano when it's up to high - but to each their own. Sucks you had a bad experience, my alpha I purchased in Dec, and my 6 yr old sc1 produce amazing vapor...and I have some beasts. Sucks about the E43....another of my favorite blinding vapes. I keep mine at 540 with balls loaded and it kicks ass.

@fifapleb - I don't use that stem because I can't handle the tiny tiny screens, but I have one, and looking at it, I would TRY this:

Pour some isopropryl into the thinnest glass or jar that you have to about 3" deep (thin container so you don't contaminate any more than you have to)

Drop the non-covered end into the isopropyl and firmly place your thumb over the open end

This SHOULD allow you to pick the stem up without the alcohol in the stem pouring out

If so, immediately cover the other end with a finger very firmly placed, now shake the stem back and forth

This works for my glass stems which have considerably more volume. I am not certain you can keep enough isopropyl in the stainless steel stem for it to clean properly this way as it is much thinner. I actually do this with Tuaca now and it works pretty well (even though it is way lower in %age alcohol, obviously NOT isopropyl in that case LOL!)

You can also soak it in PBW perfectly safe even for the silicone tube cover on the end. You can PROBABLY soak it in iso for a few hours, but eventually iso will damage the tubing. I'm sure its cheap to replace (but I bet difficult to get on there)

Hopefully if there's anything wrong with that (because I have not tried to clean that stem as I cannot easily use it) someone will let us know.

EDIT: I should also say, when I was still using iso for stem cleaning, I kept it in a separate jar because once you dip a stem in it it is a little contaminated, but not too contaminated to use for cleaning. It went stems - screens - trash. Now its much less for just screens, LOL!

Don't forget Firefly and Plenty. Sure killed mine.

Actually I'm pretty sure the Firefly killed itself, and the Plenty? I'm willing to allow as to how I just couldn't GET it to work, but that is sort of the point - I could not get it to work for me.

This is where someone like Vitolo is so important. Someone who knows how ALL the vapes work, and will work with you to find one that works best for YOU. And training people how to use them PROPERLY. (Please Support Vitolo)

As opposed to hard core stoners who won't stop vaping long enough to learn how to actually use their new device.

Yup. That device turns out the most perfectly, evenly roasted brown ABV I've ever seen.

Sadly I have no idea where all the THC went in the process. Not into my lungs. I may very well have been doing something wrong, though I have trouble imagining what (as was the case for some former UD users who seemingly were unable to imagine THEY might be doing something wrong).

However I admit the possibility. I still hate the thing. HOW DARE it be too hard for me to use??!!?!?!

There aren't a lot of reports like mine but there are some. I did try to get the seller to show me what (if anything) I might be doing wrong, but he had his $500 (with carrying case and stuffs) and he literally laughed me out of the store when I first asked for help with it and second asked for a refund. With my sales slip in hand.

So sorry. I don't feel any sympathy for people who actually got their money back and then STILL think its a good idea to come on here and sling mud.

Good morning Dogs... I see this place got hit by a Cat 3 shitstorm while I was away. :shit:

I'm not going to respond to specific people as I don't see a benefit to the thread but if someone feels slighted and wants me to respond to their comments specifically just say so and I guess I will but I see this as a bunch of people arguing over semantics and that's not my shtick.

The fact(s) of this situation are:
  • I've received 4 Alphas back and tested them and their power supplies extensively on the bench in addition to using them to vape with both ID fitting stems and their OD fitting stems. All worked exactly to spec and produced good high volume vapor.
  • 2 of them came back with visible abv/resin on the core which means they need a deep cleaning, 1 was almost totally clean and the last looked unused. I specifically didn't out specific vapes/users because I have no desire to shame anyone. Dirty is totally subjective so no point in arguing about it. I appreciate the users who were able to get theirs fully (or close) clean and accept the rest as-is. Lots of people probably don't have the ability to get them clean enough for resale, we strip them down and clean the cores in an ultrasonic.
  • Some people had expectations (microdosing, no stirring needed, etc) that weren't met by the vape. I don't think we advertised the vape as any of those things but we can only control the info that we personally give out and I'm sure there's plenty of inaccurate info on the web.
  • We supported our product and gave people full refunds despite having a no return policy in place for the last decade.
Those are the facts. I'm not shaming anyone, not arguing with anyone, not pointing fingers and have moved on with no hard feelings so hopefully everyone else can chill and do the same.

Not every vape is for every person and we've never tried to convince or push someone into an Underdog we though wouldn't suit them. It's not our style, goes against our 'code' and there's no financial incentive to do so since demand for UDs generally significantly outweighs our production capacity.

Like I already said hopefully everyone can chill and go their separate ways now with no hard feelings.

If someone wants to argue though let me know I have a clear schedule for the afternoon.

Likewise if someone wants to out themselves as the owner of a specific vape that they think wasn't working properly and have us send it to another Alpha user to see how it performs for them let me know. I'm 100% confident in the vapes running properly so I don't see the point personally but if it'd stop the bickering I'd give it a shot.
