Just ordered these silicon nitride (Si3N4) balls. How has that been working out for those who have done this mod? In particular for those of you who wanted to keep the quartz for concentrates? Worth the effort?

And any recommendations for when installing them?

I don't want to end up in the situation @vapeaveli420 had. @wildwilliewanker are these Si3N4 balls still working out for you?
I only ended up in that situation cos I’m an idiot mate, I’m sure you’ll be fine! I’m honestly the most cack handed person ever!! Good luck buddy.

The silicon nitride balls have worked great for me, no fusing to the heater either. I've tried both, with and without the dish.

Without the dish is a huge difference, basically thicker hits at lower temps, but it takes about 200 3mm balls. With the dish, it makes a minor improvement; it's just more stored heat/surface area; you can only fit less than 50 3mm balls in that case. When trying it with the quartz dish, just be very careful that no balls get between the screw end of the 14mm male piece and the dish; it will crack it.

Otherwise, it's pretty simple to do. If your titanium head doesn't easily unscrew, don't force it, follow the video from Ditanium and it should be all good.

Have you tried with Ruby balls? Any idea how it compares? Trying to decide which to get...

I haven't tried ruby. From what could research online, it appears ruby, silicon nitride, and silicon carbide all have similar thermal properties. Specifically, their thermal conductivity (essentially rate of transferring heat) and specific heat capacity (the amount of heat energy that can be stored) are in a similar range.

So compared to quartz or borosilicate, the others are able to absorb and give off heat at a faster rate. I definitely observed that when I tried boro (don't, they can fuse) vs silicon nitride.

Might be worth taking a look at the TerpTorch thread as well, as there's a lot of ball talk over there.

Yeah I actually reached out to Brian to see if he had any input since I know they offer(ed) a ruby mod and assume they considered other materials as well.

Many thanks! Super helpful. I'll report back once they are in.

Anyone smoking hash with their Ditanium?

Dried mixing bits into a bowl and it's... Okay... Feel like I need to go hotter but don't want to combust the marijuanas so I'd have to just load some hash up and crank it up to 3/330 I'm thinking.

Thought about making little hash disks tiny bit smaller than the screen and poke little holes in it.

Can you describe your hash? I‘ve done some full melt crumble with the dial pointing straight up and it melted instantaneously.

Well, I just ordered 200 3.175mm Si3N4 balls on Amazon and they should arrive Thursday. I got them prime so I can return them if they don't fit (someone mentioned needing 3mm balls but I am hoping these will do the trick.) Will report back with photos and such once I get it up and running.

I suspect I got the same Silicon Nitride balls you did (BC precision?), and they fit mine just fine. I only put 50 in (and kept the dish), and it has definitely made a difference in terms of heat retention. I'm getting thicker vapor density at lower temperatures, and just very nice, smooth long draws. I've recently upgrade my concentrates option, so I may end up ordering another 150 and topping her off!

Just bought 4 more quartz dishes for my Ditanium from Adam with his 420 sale.

I own many many vapes including a NV VROD and DTv4 for concentrates. This is my daily driver for concentrates only. It's on for 18 hours a day for the past 2 year now, with covid sometimes weeks at a time! It looks like a piece of furniture in my living room and I prefer using a whip without glass. Easy to clean and maintain. If it only had a SIC dish replacement.

Tip if you want to remove anything from the ditanium and its too snug? Use elastics. Especially for when you need to clean the titanium heater cover and 14mm titanium attachment.

I own the glass hand piece and the titanium. The glass hand piece will be much easier to maintain if you're not klutzy the clown. The titanium one I found stained up the 14mm connection much more.

Only thing I'd change is make the carb cap included and Adam needs to allow you to buy replacement heater cover parts and the 14mm titanium connection on his site. Then it becomes very very very easy to clean and swap. Oh yes a SIC dish would make this perfect.

Might even buy another new unit next 420 or Black Friday just to have one in my bedroom... VAS is still a problem though lol

I have to admit, I filled my DT with 3mm SN bearings, left the quartz dish in, and popped the carb cap on top and haven't touched it in two weeks. I've been using it solely for dry herb since I got a DTv4 setup with SiC dish. And here's the thing... it freaking *rips* like this. I've had to turn down my knob to 12:30 - 1:00 depending on what bud I'm vaping and it absolutely just tears through herb. I've been calling it the "Weed Composter" to differentiate it from the (actually far inferior, imo) Weedeater

Yeah, I'd love to have a backup. I use my DTv4 (and maybe will get the 5 when it releases) for concentrates, and I do have other dry herb options (and a DCElev8r on the way from VG), but I always find myself going back to the DiTanium as my daily (medical) driver. The efficiency, reliability, simplicity, and repeatability (i.e., at roughly similar ambient conditions I get the same results session to session). And the TI handpiece works great (or better) for microdosing (I just prefer the glass for a bunch of other reasons).

I can already tell the screen in the glass will be annoying.

So, I did something stupid a while back after realizing that I liked the quartz handpiece better for dry herb but that the screen was a total pain in the ass to change: I ordered 100 American made stainless steel screens off Amazon for the same price as Matt charges for 5. Pretty sure the same, but that's not where I went wrong: I started changing the screens every day, because I'm (more than) a bit of a neat freak neurotic type. I ended up with lots of little shed wire pieces from the edges fraying in my ABV. So, took a magnet to it, went to Reddit for some abuse and advice, and found a much better solution for my DiTanium quartz wand:

1. I keep a jar of 70% ISO on my vape desk, and after my last session of the evening I put my whole quartz handpiece (including the screen) in the jar (along with pipe mouthpieces, and other glass I keep super-clean).

2. In the morning, I toss some kosher salt into the bowl end, cap both ends of the wand with those rubber 14mm stoppers for cleaning bongs, fill it up halfway with ISO, run it under hot tap water in the sink, and shake it for about 30 seconds.

3. Uncap, drain the ISO out, rinse out very thoroughly with hot tap water (will dissolve out the remaining salt and rinse out ISO).

4. ...

5. Profit (clean quartz handpiece for use every morning, and I change my screen now about once every two weeks if it starts to get uncleanable around the edges from ISO/Salt/Shaking.

Anyhow, that's become my routine. No more wire pieces in my ABV, clean screens and quartz wand every morning for use with minimal pain and trouble, and it just makes me... happy. I'm going to go vape up my first dose of THC, CBD, and CBG now, actually :) Been giving my lungs a break and trying to not start so early in the morning last week or so...

I did actually try dipping the hand piece in a jar field with iso and it worked for the most part, got rid of about 85% of the gunk

I want to give a shout out to Ditanium customer support. I dropped mine which broke the heating element. I took it all apart trying to fix realized I couldn't. They fixed it perfectly and even replaced the OG knob with the upgrade. All at a very reasonable price. Kudos !

I have a similar rig, I use the titanium bowl through a sneaky pete mega globe, I like it because at fairly high temps it only takes a couple of seconds to cloud the globe, I pull the bowl away give it a stir while drawing cool air through it then popping the carb. I am switching back from daily using the xhale evo. Ditanium can get the powerful heat to get the quick hits, love it. Thanks for the great video!

One of the things I really, really like about the DT is how versatile it is. I loaded mine with a bunch of silicon nitride balls, popped the carb cap on, and have been using it for long, slow, low temp draws on my SPV mega globe (haha). I do the rest same as you, though: pull the wand, stir the bowl, pop the carb and clear the globe, exhale... and then ready for the 2nd draw. With a half packed and tamped bowl (.4g maybe?), it usually takes me three to four good draws and two stirs to get full extraction.

And yep, I can crank it up and extract a .2g bowl in two hits if I really need to :) The only thing I don't love about my current setup is how long it takes to reach a new temperature (I mean, it stays there, but...). I've added a lot of mass and a lot of airflow restriction to the intake area. But, and here's the thing I really love... Whether I have it cranked up or down, taking it fast or easy, I know what my DT will do for me each and every time. It is the most consistent device I've ever used.

Can we link to an imgur movie here? I have a video from couple days ago of how I've been using mine with (too much) cranberry extract (to demonstrate that magic to someone else. I'll try...

Ordered a Ditanium to chill on my desk with work from home. Going to move my Underdog to the bedroom. Other then adding rubies and the carb cap, what are the "must have" upgrades for this thing?

For me, that's it! I prefer the glass wand, but the glass handle and TI bowl are really nice if you like microdosing. And the glass handle is great if you want to use the dish for concentrates (I use another device now and use the DT exclusively for dry herb). DDave makes a glass wand upgrade that a lot of people like and say is easier than the DT version, but I don't know. Also, a lot of people like the Jhook from SPV or elsewhere. I only vape through water, though, so it's not something I have experience with.

Microdosing is what I'm going for with this guy. Really excited :-) Perhaps the occasional dab, but likely not as I've got plenty of other stuff for that and normally don't do them during the work day lol

I'd say get the TI setup (comes with the glass handle and TI bowl) then, it's actually a brilliant bowl. Simple, super effective and efficient, and stupid easy to clean. I'm more of a macrodoser than microdoser, and I like seeing the vapor in the glass handpiece, otherwise I'd use the TI (which is, from an engineering perspective, a better bowl than the glass imho as a non-engineer).

Got that and also rubies from VGoodiEZ to go with :-)
