AirVape legacy

I believe there is a design flaw responsible for the air leakage referenced recently.
I think the gold mini-screen in the internal air intake portis positioned too high and placing pressure on the molded rubber gasket.
I have found that gentle vape cloud blow into the mouthpiece reveals where any leakage is occurring. Ideally, everything is seen exiting the intake port on the end. Using a mirror or smartphone to watch is best

I am finding greater efficiency using the bit of SS concentrate pad (I used the S&B type, easy to work with) in place of the continually clogging gold internal screen alleviates the air leakage problem.
Anxious to hear if anyone agrees/disagrees after removing the screen. You don't need the SS pad to briefly check this out.

I don’t have Instagram so I’m not up to date on this stuff but I just stumbled upon Troy’s (420vapezone) Legacy Review and stream that he posted to his Instagram. It’s a 45 min video but he gets the review done in the first 11 mins.
He has a 2 bowls in it, good and a bad bowl, and gives it the review it deserves. You should check the review out if you’re interested so that’s as far as I’ll go with it.
I’m curious to see if he will bother getting the gold screens and coming out with another video with the vape in it.

Looks like Airvape fixed the issue with the heating chamber while we discovered another flaw in the device, the air leak.

I think you may be right about removing the tiny screen. It does make a big difference. But you’ll probably need to use the concentrate pad to cover the bowl or put a thin screen over the diffuser disc.

If this is a problem I should think it would be simpler to snip the descending part of the silicone gasket just a tiny bit, so that it cannot raise the lid. No?

I mean, if it's a problem, and the best thing would be for the company to replace the unit on warranty, obviously, because mine, which functions properly, proves that it is not universal.

Ok so as suggested above, I have just checked my unit for an air leak. Sadly whilst covering the air hole, it’s letting a huge amount of air in. It’s not a tight pull at all.
If I push the lid down towards the bowl area, it creates a tighter pull.
Recently it has been giving me poor performance, just not what it was when I got the unit initially. I’ve cleaned the unit too, proper deep clean.
Issue for me is , I’m from the UK no way they will cover any cost of shipping. I was a pre order buyer and waited just like the rest and also have the micro dose basket issue.

I’ll email CS and see what the outcome is. Definitely put a downer on my day but at least I know why performance has dropped!

Junny89, now remove t he small gold screen and give a report, please. I know you deep-cleaned, but if removing the screen solves the air problem, it reaffirms the hypothesis that the rubber gasket was a poor design choice in its current configuration.

Never the less, that bit of S&B concentrate pad (SS and not heavily compressed in manufacture) works like a dream.

So my micro dosing basket and 'gold plate' arrived today. Very cool, works better than my bottom screens which worked well.

are you replacing the small gold screen with a piece of the concentrate pad?
yes, I stuff a small pice of concentrate pad deep into the recess allowing the rubber gasket to seal completely. I believe the design flaw is simlpy not 'machining' the oval recess deep enough. I know the units are cast - the mold needs to be modified. The likelihood of Airvape to fix this is pretty close to nil if they are not called out on this repeatedly by reviewers. I looked for Troy's review without success. Can anyone help me on this?.

That tiny small gold screen next to the bowl that you use the little pick to get out?
Will give it a shot, thanks for the help.

It may be heresy to suggest this, but I think I prefer the performance of the Legacy before the new chamber component mod. It seems to me that I have to really raise the temperature with the mod in place, whereas before, though heat distribution was uneven, I could get better effects at lower temperatures. To each, their own, I suppose, but I haven't found the mod to be that helpful.

Yes, I probably forgotten to mention it but I removed myself that gold screen and replaced it with a small piece I cutted in a screen with bigger holes.
Idk if this screen is the reason of the airleaks but despite I'm happy about the Legacy, the fact we have to fiddle with the top lid to counter-act the air leak(s) is an issue. I think it may be solved pretty soon.
I didn't ordered the"free" micro dosing basket or the low temp component, I already added a screen in the bowl and it works good enough for me!

Just to mention, I filled the inner glass tube with glass beads for extra cooling, I found it harsh sometimes. I set my temp at 190 and didn't moved since.
Regards.

Just got my warranty replacement yesterday. Using the microdosing basket and the the new screen at the same time just didn't work well. I'll have to try the basket without the screen. The new screen worked well in Session Mode, in fact it made the legacy work very well in session mode, but yes I had to turn the temp up to the 390-400 range... but that doesn't bother me. The actually vapor was very tasty and the effects were excellent. And after a full session I got some very very dark ABV that was very even. No charring whatsoever....

...and then one of the two glued on lid magnets fell off...

Yeah, the basket and the component won't work together, making the testing more time-consuming, so I don't have final conclusions yet. It is possible that the basket alone may prove the most enjoyable arrangement.

About the magnet falling off, that's odd and very unpleasant, and I'm sorry to hear it. I think I've been very lucky with my unit as it's performed as advertised from the first. I wish you luck with rectifying this!

The magnet isn't anywhere near a heat source. So I cleaned the magnet and the lid area where it attaches as best I could (there was still some glue residue), and then used a dab of classic Krazy Glue, seems to be holding for now...

So long Legacy and Legacy Forum, I got a fair trade and got a StickyBrick Jr. for my Legacy and all I had for it. I’m happy with the trade and I hope the Legacy gets used in its new home.
Good for you man! The AirVape jury decided that my unit was faulty and I am now awaiting a replacement. Hopefully, the new one will be an upgrade and without the flaws with leaking etc.

My new unit is performing a little better than the old one. But there is still plenty of air seepage through the lid if I don't squeeze down on the lid. This is unfortunate, because the that vape is fuller, has a bit more flavor when you press down on the lid. While pressing down on the lid is fine in session mode, it's hard to hold the power button and squeeze the lid with one hand in On-Demand mode. And since I like to use on-demand while walking my dog, I don't have a third free hand to press on the lid.

It's just a bummer, because right now this is the only thing wrong with the vape. I found the new microdosing chamber reducer works well. Sometimes I don't even grind, just drop a tiny nug in there and it actually roasts really well. The new screen component also works really well. Haven't combusted or charred ever after 5-6 minutes at 420º in session mode. Overall, this thing is almost perfect, if only they can redesign the seal around the intake.

I ordered a bunch of 3mm glass spheres, I plan on removing all restrictions to airpath and simply using the spheres to filter and cool.
I'm finding SS pads are really effective in general when using with flower. Definitely helped with the Legacy with cooling and cleanliness and finding the same with my Crafty ( like them better than capsules to keep things clean and cool).

you dropping those down the air intake? Don't you think they'll clog up the black silicone piece? The one that holds in the glass airpath?

I got this Legacy and so far I am pretty happy with it. It seems to be working as intended and I am impressed with the vapor quality and volume. Have been using it in on demand mode and while it is much slower than my Hopper IO the vapor is so much cooler and smoother.
It is like most other convection vapes and likes a loose pack about 3/4 full and a slow but steady draw for best clouds. I didn’t know anything about this vape a couple days ago until @Toivarita offered a swap. I will update as I play with it more but I like it quite a bit so far.

edit: I do have to add, with playing with it more, there is quite an air leak and squeezing the entire lid down makes it work better.

Because I've used this site to learn quite a lot, and I'm very grateful for that, I want to put something into the record for others who come here to learn about the Legacy. I'm hearing about a great many problems with individual units. Of course, that's only natural. People who aren't having problems don't tend to post much, because they're happily and successfully using these devices to do what they're made for.

But for the record, my Legacy arrived in perfect working order. I've never had to modify it, squeeze the lid when using it, etc. I find it dead easy to fill and to clean. These days I really don't like using anything else in my collection because the performance of my Legacy is that satisfying.

Understand that I'm certainly not boasting or lording mine over anyone else's experience, and I do believe the manufacturer's feet should always be held to the fire to maintain their manufacturing and service to the highest standard. So the discussion should, and must continue. But if there are others who are wondering if the Legacy is worth purchasing, this post is just to say that when the device works as it should, it can be an absolutely first rate choice. As of right now, I find it among the best ever.
