Hey everybody, been awhile since I've been around! Still have my FW6 but my daily is a FW5, it's the best fit for my use. Especially with - if you didn't catch it in the photo - thicker/longer 4" x 8mm x 1.5mm glass. It's not that much bigger than stock, but the feel is great, the friction fit is tight, and the slight increase in airflow, for me, improves the manual feel. Probably less shock-proof than stock, but I've had it on two FW5s with no problems and great results.

So, in honor of the extra shit we all gotta put up with in this new Limbo Dimension of a timeline, I'm offering a free FW5 THICC Mouthpiece to the first 10 FCers who message me (within the US please, sorry)! Why? Cause I have extra glass. As pictured, I use a 4" mouthpiece. I'd say 3" is the shortest this would work for, and my stock is 12" long. All pieces will be precisely but amateurishly cut, ground, and flame polished, and mailed like a letter while we still have a Post Office. Anybody want in?
I’d love in if still possible! Thanks for the generous offer to the community! I’ll send a dm.

Can anyone comment on the smell of the unit while there is vapes herbs in the chamber. I have a FireFly2+ and it seems to be the one of the lowest smelling vape after usage out of all the vapes I own. I was looking at CFV boundless, I love convection. But the CFV had change the heating to a stainless steel, I’m afraid that now makes it conduction/convection heating..

I don't notice any real odor from the device after use. But odors are not really a concern for me, so I"m not really vigilant about it at all.

Firewood 7 teased on the site.

Any info?
I was just wondering to myself the other day if it was about time to be thinking about a 7. As a pure convection guy, I'm not sure how I feel about it being a hybrid, but I would certainly pay serious attention to whatever Marc comes up with.

The fw6 is not advertised as a hybrid but there's definitely conduction happening when I use my fw6.

At least in my opinion.

That ceramic bowl gets hotttttttt

Hi everybody,

As ogfc seems to go on I wanted to share a little game changing mod I found for my fw5 & 6.

Using basket screens has been mentioned by other members too as I recall. I just found the perfect ones for cheap. I think they're the same Ed uses for the glass stem in the woodscents. ( And are a bit too big for this)

The nice tip is to flatten the bottom with a vapcap tip, with the cap for more wide and shallow fit or without for a bit more deep and narrow. It's important to do that so the screens stays within the tray not to damage orings above and below in the 5. It allows a bit more microdosing and especially for the 5, that has this problem, avoids any stirring. All the little green bits that stay in the slots of the 5 tray chamber disappear and you get a nice even dark roast without stirring. A little blowing and sucking in the mouthpiece makes that even more, like 99%, perfect.
For the 6 you have less this problem and the mod makes it the same capacity than the 5 but you avoid the stirring wich is the drawback the hybrid direction of the 7 tries to correct apoarently.

Cheers ! :leaf:

P.S. I think my fw 5 &6 are by far my more potent non butane vapes.

See above, it reports denser vapour with both convection+conduction heating. It sounds good to me, I'm keen to see what it looks like

Using basket screens[...]

Excellent tip, thank you. With my FW5 I had been making good use of a stirrer made out of cork and paper clip (https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/firewood-vaporizer.9306/page-205#post-1425162), but these baskets make for much less uneven roasting by keeping the load away from the heat-sink that is the ceramic chamber walls. Seems to me I do well with a lightly packed load in a basket, just have to reload more frequently, and having the 5 chambers that's not too much of a chore.

The FW5 has grown on me. The severe unevenness was a disappointment, but coming up with a stirrer made it more usable, and the baskets are another step up. Having a few different strains in different slots is very convenient. The wife's preferred strain goes at the end, mine in the second slots, and the center holds some 50% CBD it's sometimes nice to have a bit of.

The first hit seems to mostly serve to heat up the ceramic parts, and then the subsequent ones properly deliver the goods. I hope with the later versions he manages to minimize the thermal mass, but accepting its imperfections the FW5 has been doing well for me.

Super excited, although slightly concerned the phrase on-demand isn’t mentioned there. I also cannot fathom how he’s going to make it even smaller than the FW6, but this only makes me more curious :)
Good point re: on-demand not being mentioned. Wonder if @firewood might be willing to confirm if the 7 will be on-demand or session?

It may be that because it's a hybrid device, it won't be on-demand. Current hybrids like the Crafty and Mighty need a minute or two to warm up. The conduction side of things tends to take a bit of time to get going in practically every device that uses that method. Just a guess.

Ok, pics below as requested. Regarding the questions about whether it is on demand... The heat up time depends on the battery and the heat level. It is typically around 10-12 seconds give or take. You'll be getting vapor on that first hit so it is pretty fast. The big advantages of hybrid convection/conduction are denser vapor, need to stir is eliminated, and cleaning is very easy because the oven and screen basically self clean.

Here are the pics:
