I strongly suggest not having a hair straightener method. Wish there was an easier diy at home that’s cheap and you don’t need to buy shit to do it. Or my bud really sucks. Lol

Hi Vicki - Im in the Florida Market as well - Love me some Blue River Tru-Rosin. Not sure how i feel about the soft waxes though - the taste seems a bit less than natural if that makes any sense

Do you all store concentrates in the fridge?

Should carts also be stored in the fridge?

I store all live resin and live rosin in the fridge to preserve the live terps as long as possible.

My flower rosin can stay out as it’s made from cured nugs which already have pretty shelf-stable terpenes.

Some live resin carts could be stored in the fridge, just make sure to let it acclimate to room temp before using as it wont wick the same if the oil is cold.

Other carts, like ones with distilled terpenes are more thermally stable and you can just leave out.

Now I’m the opposite of @710yota in that I like that the fridge adds a little time to the dab ritual, keeps me from impulse vaping so much :D

Hi! I haven’t tried the Blue River carts yet. I have two different strains of wax right now, StarDawg and L.A. Confidential. The taste is decent, and the effects are really good. I prefer rosin and Gold from MUV, and I have quite a few of theirs right now.

Have you heard about the boom on Mizar 5?
There totally is a good reason to store your concentrates in a fridge, honestly I'm listing my excuses I tell myself to not buy a dab fridge for my desk. It might be good to add some safeguards against too much impulse dabs, I find myself able to burn through concentrate much faster then I do flower.

So, I am looking to make my first cart purchase. My local shop has (at the moment) "full spectrum cannabis oil" (mostly Rythm) or "live resin" (cresco) which is apparently butane extracted. Any thoughts on plus or minus of either medium? I have mostly been getting Indica flower from my guy because that is what he likes, but I wouldn't mind getting some sativa so I may go that way with a cart.

Cresco’s liquid live resin carts are decent, not sure about Rhythm as they aren’t in my state.

I use carts a lot for years. Some of the new carts taste OK for a little, but are not delicious--even if you pay for the premium ones. The worst ones have a phony taste from poorly added terps. For me, butane extractions seems to taste the best for longest. Distillate is so cheap though....

As to the sativa/indica difference, I'm a believer that for some combination of reasons sativas will behave differently in me than indicas. I love citrusy terps. But, for cartridges, I've not found much any of a difference in effect between a sativa or indica underlying plant even if they get the terp mix right.

So, with the carts there seems to be a really wide range of reported THC %. Is that usually reflected in the level of effects felt, or is it more of a reflection of the plant it came from? Or both?

It depends on the starting material quality, the genetics, and the extraction process/es used.

I like to get the cleanest concentrates with the lowest THC %. The most “full spectrum” cartridges will be undiluted with THC in the 50-60% range. I feel like this is often misunderstood, which leads people to gravitating towards extracts with the highest possible THC percentage. The less THC there is, the more room there is for all the other stuff we want. High THC% is useful for buying flower as it denotes resinous material - especially helpful if you can’t see or smell the herb. But with concentrates, IMO lower THC is the way to go, they are often more flavorful as again, less THC leaves more room for terpenes, flavonoids, etc.

I don’t think THC% really means much. Some of the strongest cartridges I’ve ever had were co2 oil in the 56-58% THC range.

See my sig? Yessir, originals. He had the materials and skills to weld a bunch of Copper/Nickel plates, then he drilled holes for the soldering irons, and shipped them to me. They are still going strong with all original equipment...I am very pleased with it as I dialed in moisture and it yields me a lot...and no one can say "pics or it didn't happen", lol.

I love my rosin press, but it's not saving me money anymore. It's more about the quality of the starting material and also my choice of variety.

I had originally bought it when concentrate options were few around here, and also the price for concentrates were twice what I would spend for buying the flower and pressing it. But then more concentrate options, including rosin, became available and the price dropped. So now I may only save maybe 5 bucks to make a gram of rosin myself. That said, I'm sure the dispensaries are using trim and small duff nugs to make that gram of rosin while for a similar price I will buy at least mids for my pressings. It also gives me the ability to increase my variety of rosins I can have.

Now with that said, lately I have been enjoying flower through my vapcaps and the rosin press and rosin have taken a hiatus. But my tastes change quickly and the press will come out again soon. Rosin pressing is also an art or craft to be practiced if you want to work those yield percentages and get nice light colored rosin. I am very much a noob there.

My experience with carts hasn't been stellar and is limited to 2 , 1 g of distillate and 1 1/2 g of co2 resin. The distillate was grey market wasn't tested but their estimate was 70-80% it was harsh and tasted toward bad, its effects felt like kinda bunk weed at best nowhere near as impactful as a dab. The co2 resin was from a my LP and tested 65% tasted good reminiscent of light roasted almonds but it effects were quite mild, relaxing but no strong psychedelic high and the first time I was suspicious I was high at all until I vaped a bowl and felt twice as high as I should so I guess it provided a sort of background high similar to a low edible dose that can curve your craving for a real session but to be completely fair I didn't session heavy with it just like 5-6 hits and I haven't gotten around to trying more, I have other vapes that do always satisfy. The co2 resin is now 75% but I haven't picked any up yet to try still got half the cart left and it's going on 2 months old now. Much prefer dabbing live resin, diamonds and sauce or even a nice shatter to carts but I will retry the cart if is still good since my tolerance was a fair amount higher when I last had it, I might find it more suitable now.

I intend to use carts in situations I don't want to pull out a torch or a splinter and mod, not as a replacement for flower.
Which brings up a good question. Does a cart go stale, and if so how quickly? I imaging it depends on the type of cart, but generally is it something you want to use up in a week or so? I ask cause my usage out of the house (especially now) is not that great so if it won't be harmed a cart might last a couple months for me.

I agree with the general sense and believe distillate with added terps is "missing" something in the high. But, carts can hit hard, even with tolerance.

Tried the cart of co2 resin again, it's still good must be very stable. Had a heavier session of 10 plus hits and I'm still not that high, stronger than before but fairly mild considering the dose. I took big hits and had some throat irritation, vaped a little passed the point of enjoyment but I wanted to see what I could get from a heavier session. It's supposed to be "indica" no mention of any strain or strains that it's made from, but the high feels more balanced hybrid which is my least favourite kind of weed, not as feel good, energized, happy heady rush of a sativa or as deeply relaxing, soothing, body buzz as a indica. Just yeah I'm high but feeling a little so what. I don't think I'll try the stronger indica cart my LP has, think I'll try something strain specific from the ocs and see if I have any better results. I wish I could open the cart and dab some in my banger to know for sure weather it's the concentrate, the dose or the vape that is letting me down but unfortunately it's sealed and would have to break it to get to the good stuff.

The best carts will use the exact same live sauce as you would dab. There is a very big difference between a top tier cart produced by a cutting edge processor and the generic distilled ones. You’ll know you have one when you think to yourself “holy shit, this is basically a dab rig in my pocket.” I still remember the first time I tried a true live resin cart two years ago, totally changed my mind about carts and I’ve been using prefilled cartridges for almost ten years so have pretty much seen it all come and go. I actually think a great live resin pen can even taste better than a dab off my enail with sapphire insert as the vapor path is so short and unobstructed, you can get incredible flavor.

Make sure you’re holding the vapor in for good absorption and not donating big hits back to the atmosphere. I tend to recommend smaller hits held longer, over larger inhalation’s.

That’s the thing, concentrates were originally always done with trim which was kinda like turning water into wine. I still remember when growers would give me trash bags full of popcorn nuggets and trim because they didn’t know what to do with it, in fact they were so grateful to get rid of that “trash.” I used to pick out the smalls and ran my Volcano for years on that stuff.

Top shelf nug is so expensive here it’s literally not worth pressing flower rosin on a retail level when I can buy a gram of higher quality hash rosin for less money. Even if the hash was made with trim it’s still higher quality than something I’d be able to buy and then press. I guess it’s the same reasons why it’s cheaper to buy a bag of cookies then buying the chocolate chips to make your own.

Concentrate only became legal here recently and legal selection is pretty poor. I've been getting grey market stuff for a while and the quality is good and I'm still finding there's so much variation even within the same concentrate, for example the live resin I've been using is cream coloured and the consistency of wet kief, the legal stuff I saw was brown and green and sorta cornflakes pieces? Need to restock and I wanted to try the legal stuff but it's all sold out except for carts 😩 I almost want to grab a pax era , heard they're better and my LP just got LA Confidential pods and that's my current favourite strain. Maybe I should just wait a while till better quality stuff becomes available?

I like the Pax Era a lot, it was probably my favorite vaporizer of all time while it was my daily driver. I was just thinking about grabbing a live resin sauce pod for it the other day as I haven't touched it in almost a year.

I actually like the Era a lot more than 510 carts and I wrote a whole dissertation why on Reddit and Ye Olde FC. So why has mine been collecting dust? The e-nail style temp control for the Era is badass, but when I bought my Pax almost all of the cutting edge oil processors were using 510 Ccells. That means the terpiest oils which would excel in the Era simply weren't being offered or just had very low availability. Now that I can easily get liquid live resin pods (even rosin pods) for the Era, I'm definitely thinking of grabbing one next time I visit a retailer. IMO the fully bathed wick design of the Era is far better than the 510 Ccell where oil wicks through inlet holes and creates big air bubbles in the cartridge via capillary effect. I'm not sure if people can still download the Pax app or not anymore after the Apple vape ban, I still have the app on my phone. With the app you can monitor battery life, lock your pen (yes like a car  I actually love this feature, prevents impulse vaping) change temperatures, they even have some algorithm where you can even set a session length such as a microdose, or a long session, and it will cut you off for a minute after you complete that session. It's not perfect but I really appreciated it and thought it was useful. I heard they really improved the accuracy of it with a later update.

Overall I recommend liquid live resin cartridges if you can find them. I enjoy co2 oil as well but it can vary a lot between processors, some of it is actually just distillate but originally extracted with co2 and they will claim co2.

You really have to do due diligence with concentrates to separate the wheat from the chaff. There's a lot of money to be made off vape pens due to demand and many companies compromise quality since most customers frankly dont know any different which they take advantage of, but if you can find a great oil processor with some ethics who makes top tier carts they are probably my favorite way to microdose.

I want to try that MUV Gold now that I know it is Diamonds in TerpSauce. My cousin let me try some diamonds from CO and they were tasty.

What's your opinion on TruLieve's THCA? It's also a solvent-less extract (ice water maybe? Definitely bubbles). I only just recently tried it but I love that stuff. You can dab it but I usually dip a rosin dab into it. A little bit goes a long way.

I haven't tried the Blue River carts either but from @invertedisdead's post, it sounds like they might be worth it. I hardly ever use carts these days. I would only use them when I went out for extended periods and I'm not doing that at the moment.

Ya I don't press hardly at all anymore since, like in Viki's case and some others in this thread, FL finally has us medicated legally. Since the choice of concentrate is pretty good, and with the prices being reasonable, no need to press as much. Bonus is that the quality of flower is better for me now too, so if I wanted to press, I'm sure I'd get even better yields and quality than before.

I keep hearing the term "water hash" a lot these days, and I'm less familiar with that term.
Isn't it just bubble hash? If so, why the confusing name change all of a sudden?
