Grasshopper AC Adapter Kit (and 18650)

I actually mailed them about this recently and they put me on a list of people interested in one: support@maxvapor.com. I also asked about timing for the availability of these for those that didn't pre-order, and the response was that they were aiming for availability in about a month. Based on the date of the response to my message, that would put it sometime around the beginning to mid July.
Awesome, I'm looking to get away from those awful custom batteries. Who knows how much the lithium battery vents into the air path during draw.

the battery isn’t in the air path.
Which is true but not the entire truth though... I'm pretty sure the battery isn't exactly airtight, so there must be an opening to the part of the body where the heating chamber is, or maybe the intake holes. Otoh if the battery is leaking anything out while using it, inhaling anything venting out may not be the biggest problem.

Wow, the new adapter really ups the kit's game in terms of simplifying the switch between battery operated and plug-in. I'm a one Hopper household so this use case is very important to me. Looking forward to the general on-sale for this.

Hi All,

This is a picture of the new adapter threaded onto the very generous @ChooChooCharlie's Hopper IO, courtesy of my machinist with dirty hands.
The pieces are getting packaged and shipped later today, so should be a few more days before I have them in hand.

Thanks,
Max
Hey @maxvapor710 will there be a general release on these? I’d like to add one to my kit for ease of r&r. Thanks.

If your kit hasn't shipped yet and you want to wait a few more days we are just going to be swapping over to this adapter for the rest of the orders.
I will make them available to everyone once the people who are having issues are taken care of first.

I purchased two of these kits. On one kit I was unable to attach any of my back ends. On the other kit I was able to attach about half of my back ends. I am confident that @maxvapor710 will have this sorted out soon.

But I am really posting to say that I was able to give the 18650 battery sled a test ride. It worked great. Inserting the battery caused the LEDs to light up (presumably indicating the charge level). Clicking the Hopper button made the battery sled LEDs blink while the Hopper was heating up. When the Hopper LED turned blue the battery sled LEDs stopped blinking. I took two draws, and the Hopper performed perfectly. Steady power and efficient heating.

The battery sled has all of the circuitry to make it work just like the battery attachment in the wired setup, only with an 18650 battery. I haven't tried charging the battery with the battery sled yet.

I'm looking forward to the new adapter that will fit all back ends. The battery sled is a nice addition to the kit. The Hopper can now run off of an 18650 battery! :)

Hey @maxvapor710, is the battery sled compatible with the io? Maybe with a 18650 with a high discharge rating?

Hopper Labs isn't accepting warranties for OG hoppers right now so an io is my only functional device currently.

Anyone found a wall adapter that works well for the io?

@SpaceCowboy I don't have a Hopper IO in hand until it arrives back to me with the shipment from my machinist but I see no reason the battery sled shouldn't work given you use decent batteries like an LG HG2 or Sony VTC series.

I can't really recommend anything yet for the power supply until we have had a chance to do more testing.

@maxvapor710 No problem, I assume you'll update here with a list of power supplies eventually?

I wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was overlooking in terms of safety with the battery sled paired with an io. The TinyMight runs a 70W heater with the Sony VTC6, so I figured it should be possible.

I have some LG HG2s I can test with once my adapter arrives, I'll report back! Thanks for making this product!

@Hammahead as always if you have any issues just contact support@maxvapor.com and they will get you sorted out.
Uhm, haven't received a shipping confirmation so far... and considering my overall financial situation plus the bit of uncertainty when it would arrive, keeping in mind the current USPS situation, I'd rather like to cancel my order in case it hasn't been shipped yet. I'm pretty sure the adapter will be quite successful, so I guess it's not a now or never situation so I can wait for generally smoother times. Not sure how to proceed? Should I contact the paypal mail adress? Should it have been shipped already, so be it. Please let me know. Wishing you all the best, keep it up!

I would be glad to send Paypal immediately and take @Hammahead place if someone else isn’t in line ahead of me........ @maxvapor710

edit: I have 2 Hoppers and an IO to test it out with. Can’t wait!!

Hi All,

The remainder of the orders have all completed assembly and moved to QA testing. If you have not yet received a shipping notice you should expect it over the next few days as your unit is tested and packaged.

Thanks,
Max

Been waiting patiently since this post on Monday but still no shipping notice for me as Sunday comes to an end. I am sad... I did get an email asking me to review the product tho.

Almost there...
@maxvapor710

I sent an email about 2 weeks ago and was told I needed to be invoiced for shipping.
This was a pre-order.
Are pre-orders still being completed and shipped out?
Do the new orders come with the new adapter? This is possibly the hold up but not sure...

im trying to email support@maxvapor.com and it keeps returning an undeliverable mail fail message, using both the email associated with paypal and an alternate hotmail email. Are other people able to email today? I pre-ordered and then completed the payment in early May but havent heard anything yet until they sent me a email on Saturday asking me to review the purchase. I wasnt worried about the delay and lack of shipping info on paypall before getting the review email but now i am concerned something went wrong.

I see the message above from last week where maxvapor says that a new adaptor will ship with kits that didnt go out yet, so i am happy if it didnt ship yet if the delay is because they are working on preparing the latest version to send out.

I've received a bunch of those review emails. It's a bit odd, but I wouldn't worry about it.

AFAIK the revised threaded adapters are currently being shipped from the machinist to MaxVapor then getting reassembled onto the existing orders.
I don't know if all the adapters will have slots or just a few as a sample run. But the kits will ship with the revised threading for compatibility

@MoltenTiger thanks. i was more concerned that the email is bouncing tbh but i appreciate the fast reply. It will be good that it took longer if the end result is better

Hi All,

We are not having any issues with our email server that I am aware of, but if you want to PM me the reason for the bounce you are receiving I can take a look at it.

If you are in the small group of pre-order customers that has not yet received a tracking number, you will be getting the new updated part as soon as it arrives this week. All of the orders are assembled and just waiting to be packaged and dropped off, so there shouldn't be much of a wait once we have them in hand.

The shipment is currently in our city, but has not been put on a truck for delivery yet so I am not sure if it will be coming today or not.

Thanks,
Max

@maxvapor710

thanks, i just tried sending a basic email (no forwarding) and it worked. it seems like what was causing the problem is that i was trying to forward the paypal 'payment received' email and it was being rejected for appearing like spam.

you can ignore my rambling voicemail.. or it may be good for a laugh, im not sure =P

@Razshiro it would be best to contact customer service if you haven't already.

It is my understanding that most international customers contacted us to arrange alternative shipping methods precisely because of slow shipping and / or lack of tracking updates from USPS. If you don't see any sort of update by now after two weeks I suspect there may be some issue, support will be able to get you sorted out I am sure.

Thanks,
Max

@maxvapor710 - high Max and everybody else.

Wow, got an order update and shipping notice for what I assume is the updated slotted/re-threaded adapter with electronics.

Way cool and I look forward to receiving them.

Couple of questions, however:

1. I would be perfectly happy to send back to you the old one that doesn't fit my back end. Its new (as in never used) and perhaps you would want it back (or no??)

2. I did not receive the battery sled with my order as at the time you did not have them in hand. Did one ship with my new threaded adapter or do I need to do something (like pay extra shipping) to get one. It looks like the sled is part of the kit I paid for, but I don't see any object to order to pay for shipping. How do I go about this (and this can maybe be answered by other members...I'm just a bit confused as to where we are with the battery sled). And yes, Max...I will send this inquiry to CS!! haha

Cheers and looking forward to putting the new adapter into use.
