Welp after adding the VROD head to the cart its 50$ shipping to Canada just for that... Ouch. Even at 420 I might have to pass as I can't justify paying that much for something so small..

The coil on my VROD head hasn't seem to been getting as hot the past few days. Temp is 660f like I always have it, but even the carb cap isn't that hot after sitting on it for a while.

Is this the sign it's dying? Strange that it says 660f but feels barely 300-400. I guess it loses the ability to accurately parse the temp?

Possibly, do you have a spare coil to try? I’ve read every page of this thread and cannot recall the last coil/thermocouple failure

I'm patiently waiting for mine to go under lol at about 3 years now. Whenever I start feeling suspect about it, I run the autotune on the controller. But my current temp 680 feels good..., who knows where it's really at....still waiting on a decent Terpometer sale!

Not sure if this is decent, but it is the best price I have seen in a while...$89.95 with free shipping. Sale ends 4/30.

One of the other packages, with the Zach Brown V2 carbcap + Glob Mops + Terpometer, for $129, is actually a decent deal I might do next payday! Good looking out, thanks. The best deal there is if you're into the HE Gavel V3 banger (usually about $180), being a $230 combo with the Terpometer.

I prefer this type of k wire temp sensor. That being said I feel that the numbers being displayed don't matter that much. Rather set the temp as low as I can go for a full melt. Adjust 10deg increments from there allowing heat soak to happen. Remember that with e-rigs there is heat soak at play. After 5 min the entire head vrod or tbucket should be thoroughly soaked. I do agree using the terpometer are good for quartz bangers with torch. typically I've found 50-100 f difference between what the pid is displaying and the actual dab surface. Try and use a consistent / repeatable heat up routine. I typically say add 60 sec after the pid hits the programmed temp. Remember the pid will over shoot the programmed number when first heating up then settle back down. It's when it's settled back down when you should begin the 60 sec count down. Once the head is heated up it can remain on for extended periods of time.

I had my first coil go a few months ago actually - it's a vapecode coil though, not from NV. I leave my controller on 24/7 when I'm at home, including through the night. One night I had my night-cap and went to sleep. In the morning, I threw some flower in the bowl and went to hit it and got 0 vapor. I checked my controller (chinese) and it had EEEE across the screen - and that was that. Luckily I keep spares on hand, but I probably got about a year and a half of on time out of it before death. I was super happy to see when it failed it basically shut off though, I've heard stories of coils breaking and going red hot.

Hope you get it figured out @thevapist !

I wrote to Auber about coils, turning them on/off when needed EXTENDS the life of a coil.

Thanks, good to hear Auber has a definitive answer - I wasnt sure if I was helping or hurting by doing that. Maybe I'll program my smart outlet to shut off at night again. I assume I'd get some extra life if I bought a better controller/coil combo too, but at least I still have room to upgrade later

If I can't wait 15 minutes then I'll just grab the Flip Brick or Runt and be done with it . No way I want to leave the coil running all day.

Had a 5.7 earthquake here a few weeks ago... Would have had a house fire also if I had left it running unattended. Crazy risk to save a few minutes here and there.

I didn’t bring up the ADDED benefit of less chance of a fire. Mine is never left unattended, meaning I’m home, and it’s off till I want it, having done extensive temperature testing on my Auber PID, and NV DCup, my sapphire dish is at 575f, in TEN minutes. If I plan to use it again in a decent period of time, I’ll leave it on. Stay safe!

This would be like 14 months on the coil, but I leave it on 24/7 in safe spot. Only gets turned off when I go out, which isn't often ;)

Going to take a closer look at it tomorrow and will update.

Oh I dont leave it unattended, like I said 24/7 when I'm home. I live in a relatively small apartment and my vape station is right next to my bed, so I would know if it fell or something even while asleep it's not really unattended. Luckily CO isnt super active seismically, especially over a 5.0, but if it did, I'd be here to feel it or it would be off! :)

Edit: I also use it about once every hour or two steadily throughout the day.

Get a smart plug. Tell your phone to turn it on. Put it on a timer to turn itself off after 30 minutes cause chances are you'll forget after twaxin'.

Does anyone know if/how I could get alternate dishes for the VROD? I want to try quartz and potentially sapphire if it's possible to make it. I know NewVape has 1-2 not sure if third parties make compatible pieces.

unless the dnail halo dishes have changed their OD should measure 28mm. I'd suggest confirming this with dnail. I have no idea about Nimbus it looks like it's a 25mm od in which case it might fit but would have a large gap between the od of the dish and Id of the vrod. This would not be desirable for me. I always get nervous about trying to guarantee fit ups with parts I don't actually have in hand.
