Discontinued Ghost MV1

I just noticed a dark spot on the white ceramic ring in one of my MV1's the other day. I assumed it was some material that had fallen in there (which seemed very odd to me), but after reading this I went and took a closer look. It does indeed seem that the ceramic is being burned. Do you think this is a bad thing? It performs fine, but do you think it may be dangerous?

It definitely may be why the hits are so potent ! But you raised a very good question ... I hope not since there's nothing we can do about it now ... But going forward as I did ... You could either try moving the coils yourself &/or get a new one & before using ... Open it up and adjust ! The hardest part of putting it back together is the bottom green silicone ... I had to do this for the latch assembly replacement ... You may not have to remove if you are just adjusting the coils ... But it is a lot easier when removed !

The same thing used to happen with my (retired) Firefly; the coil was off center and one side of the bowl would get hotter than the other. It used to leave black marks on the ceramic where it touched. Used to take it apart once a month a re-position the coil for better performance.

Mine was actually slightly melted ! Makes me wish that part was made out of glass after seeing that ... Wish there was a way I could make an after market mod ... A glass insert would be perfect !!!

Definitely appreciate the suggestions, but I'm not disassembling a unit which is still under a manufacturer warranty - especially when the CS is so outstanding. Maybe we can get an official stance? Hey @virgil_GHOST , if this burning of the ceramic isn't harmful, I see no reason to replace this unit. Does Ghost have an official stance?

Thanks!

The whole point of vaping is 2 not burn anything ! Ghost can't put a warranty on your health &/or life !!!

Interior parts are found to have burn marks now? This is such a Michael Jackson popcorn meme thread for me since the bf sale. The performance must indeed be excellent for people to be doubling down despite this litany of issues. Let's see if I'm missing anything:
  • Broken/poorly designed latch
  • Peeling finish
  • Power management issues
  • No extra batteries available
  • Crucible dispenser getting plastic on the crucibles
  • Burn marks on the ceramic heater
  • Sub-par green silicone (only one person here has complained about that so I'm not sure if it rates inclusion)
Also I have a question: did someone from Ghost actually say there was a plan to drop a new vape of some kind in 2020? The narrative since Black Friday has been "Whoa, can't pass up this $125 price - hope I'm not too bummed when they releases the MV2!" as if there was some word from Ghost that a new or updated device was in the works. If they've shared anything to that effect I missed it.

There is definitely no official word on a new unit from Ghost...Yet...

I've owned an MV1 since Feb this year. I had a stealth originally and functionally, it was awesome. I RMA'd mine due to the heat sink peeling. I swapped it for a stainless unit and had that until just before the BF sale when I suspected the heat element was starting to degrade. Upon asking Ghost if it was a common problem, they recommended to just RMA it (sent me new unit b4 I sent old one back, as always) instead of troubleshoot any further than I already had and move on. Why wouldn't I choose that option? I can't say I had conclusive evidence that the heat element was failing (I don't own an infrared thermometer or anything, and it seemed intermittent, so who knows). Either way despite the few issues I've had with my MV1 it knocked several other top-tier portables out of my top-spot. I wasn't 100% sure about what was going on with Ghost as a company a few weeks ago, but knew I wanted to have a functional MV1 for the foreseeable future (until something better came along). So, I purchased a 2nd MV1 just to keep in the box as an insurance policy. HOWEVER, I've since opened it and now have 2 MV1's in regular rotation. For the past 2 weeks I've been taking 1 of my MV1's with one crucible in the chamber and a full dispenser, along with one of my other top-tier units as a backup when I go out. I always go through all crucibles before moving on to whichever backup I decided to bring with me. That's evidence of my bias towards the MV1.

All of my vapes have had issues, I've never owned a single one that didn't require at least 1 warranty claim. I am NOT abusive on my equipment either, the point is that these devices are a fairly new product and I remember when smart phones came out and how many of them I broke until the market was saturated with these tech giants who (through millions of dollars) have started producing some pretty durable and well-functioning devices. All issues included and all vape companies compared you can trust me when I say I REALLY hope Ghost is around for many years to come. And even though I have 2 new MV1's right now, I look forward to a new unit to drop. The sooner the better. I probably won't be in the market for another expensive device in the near future, but somebody will. And they can get the ball rolling on another AWESOME thread like this one for me to have a road-map to learn to love it, just like I have come to love this MV1.

Just some thoughts, hopefully helpful.

Despite it all the device is truly amazing & the Stealth Matte Black with the Chrome latch assembly + adjustment of coils I put 2_gether ... give me the best looking & working device now with no issues thus far ... But as far as I know I'm the only 1 in the world with this ! Most of us couldn't return it for a refund if we wanted 2 & since customer service is usually pretty great ... The cheapest & smartest move to make would be to cop another ghost ... At least for a back-up while the replacement ships ... I'm only using medical CBD with this & the smell_taste & effects are unbelievable .. in a very good way! Yes & with the few problems (IMO) this is still The Rolls-Royce of vapes !

Truly wish I still had the Stealth, it's so sexy. But, functionality before looks for me. I thought long and hard about getting a stealth and an SS, but my man @Djsleepy has done his homework and hasn't steered me wrong yet! I'll probably get the Stealth MV2 tho!

I understand your point of view and wasn't really endorsing the idea; just letting @kiddvudu2 know about a similar situation. But you are right, why bother potentially screwing with your warranty? I just like to tinker a bit. :)

Thanks ! It works e_vun bed_duur ... I ... Shouldn't have 2 worry about the Black Abs type plastic breaking ... The chrome uses a polycarbonate type plastic .. that is then ... Probably sonic welded Chromed !!! The black or chrome heat sink/mouth piece both look beautiful any way you mix it !!! There's 2 ways 2 do this ... Depending on if you want just the look &/or performance ... That the Matte Black seems 2 give ! Someone can simply take the front shell once unscrewed off & put it on another Ghost or to get the best performing device & look is 2 use everythang on the Matte Black ... Except for switching out its latch assembly !

Hell yeah brother. Maybe U feel like disassembling one of the battery packs to tinker with??? Inquiring minds wanna know. :)

I thought about it ... Until I change my mind ... I think I'll let someone else make history with that ! I'm just glad I finally have a BEAUTIFUL strong working device now that I've swapped out .. to the chrome latch assembly & adjusted the coils ... Which also makes for better even heat !

There is no harm, no. But definitely understand the concern. The coils expand and recoil during the heating up and cooling off periods. While the coils are manufactured to start out centered, the direction in which they expand and recoil varies. This is the reason for discoloration occurring on the inside of the ceramic coil encasement.

Excellent! Of my 2 stainless MV1's (Lefty and Lucy), this one is my favorite. Only because it's had the honor of accompanying me on a few more outings I'm sure, haha!

EDIT: @BLACK ICE !!! Did you happen to take any pictures of the heating element when you had it apart?

:lmao:Of course you opened it! :D You’re a member of FC.com, ain’t ya?! I love your “insurance plan” but it seems that you didn’t factor in the power of a new vape toy. You’re sick baby, and you got it good. The VAS.

I tried mine to make sure all was square and I put it with battery up and away.......but I understand running two!!!!

My Steath MV1 arrived today! Opened it right after work and put the battery on the quick charger. About two hours later it was ready to go. One burn off. I smelled nothing. Had a crucible loaded with .11 g of Red Headed Stranger Shake. BTW: I really don’t mind Shake at all. It is easier to control dosage with something a little less potent.
I set the Ghost to the brochure suggested three lights and away I went! I understand the comparisons to the Mighty. And let me say while I rarely post in the thread, I love my Mighty. But here is my feeling after one use:If the Ghost MV1 is like eating an incredible delicious meal on fine china where the cutlery feels just right in your hand and is anodized artisan forged metal, the Mighty is that same meal on everyday Melmac using some plastic handled, pressed metal flatware. Meal tastes great with both, but with one it tastes more pure. Looking forward to doing more analysis!

That would actually have been useful.:myday:
My jet setting unit arrived today but is still in the packaging, my wife says it is my X-mas present and I have to wait to open it.

I noticed that 91% Iso is recommended for cleaning the appropriate iso cleanable parts, should I water down my 99.9% iso or is 91% a recommended minimum?

Yes of course ... & What do you mean by stainless ... are you talking about the metallic nickel !? If so I love that color 2 ... If it Didn't flake I would use the front case/shell of it & put it on the matte black backs body ! Next I will test to see if it is indeed the motherboard &/or the color coating of the stealth that gives the greater performance ... By either changing the Matte Black with the metallic nickel front case/shell & or changing a metallic silver &/or any other colors front shell/case with the matte black ! So far without doing anything to the Ghost, the matte black has been the best ... Better, darker extraction with no overheating/lights ... The only way I was able to get the matte black to have the overheating lights come on was to turn on & heat with no air pulling through not inhaling @t all & that only happened because of me testing the heating of the coils with the heatsink mouth piece off, 2 see the positioning of the coils !!!

I'm struggling to work out how a different coloured case makes the oven work worse or better? :hmm:

Anyway, I've not picked up any of my other vapes since getting the MV1.

Both my nickel and the stealth perform exactly the same. My battery is losing one light after 2 evenings of use and it's popped on the slow charge to fullness before bedtime, no issues there. Not tried the fast charger yet as I'm waiting for a US to UK plug in the Xmas post.

The flavour and coolness of this thing though... Has anyone mentioned the flavour? And the coolness of the vapour? :brow:

I've also not got round to trying rosin in there yet, I've been a bit distracted trying bits of flower from all my curing jars. :sherlock:

And not one cough from me... I can get a bit of a tickly throat and cough with the dryness of some vapes like the mighty and the splinter... But this thing (IMHO) is some kind of alien technology to keep it all so cool and smooth.

If I were to be inventing an MV2... I'd have the cooling unit twist off and a ROUND crucible dropped in the body which would get around the loading hinge. I got fat broken fingers and getting the oval to match up can be a bit fiddly for me after a few bowls. :haw:

But yeah, nice product guys... Looking forward to seeing what's in store for the future.:clap:
