Does it click? If not you've got serious problems, but I suspect it is? That probably means contamination on the gap or mechanical displacement of the electrode has made the gap too wide and the spark is harmlessly happening elsewhere (like when a plug wire on a car goes bad).

If it doesn't click, look for problems in the mechanics that prevents the plunger from a full stroke. It has to be pressed hard enough to 'go over center' and release the hammer inside to hit the crystal inside and generate the spark.

You can also have the mixture too rich (too much fuel, not enough air) or too lean (not enough fuel to support combustion. Fuel and air need to be in nearly the right ratio to burn. Test it with an external flame, if it's not 'right' adjust the gas flow and try again?

Good luck. Consider replacement (and maybe a spare?) if you start spinning your wheels?

That would be one of these?

(same lighter, different vendor)

Three bucks each.....SHIPPED?
I've been using and recommending them for years and have yet to kill one nor recall anyone claiming one died in service and couldn't be resurrected easily. Why not buy a couple now (they take a couple weeks to get there) for the future? Murphy says you're only having problems because you have no backup.......mission critical gear demands backups from serious users...... That is if you'd had a backup, your VM lighter would likely be doing fine to keep it's job? At $3 each it's easy to throw out trouble makers.

'Murphy Insurance, peace of mind no matter the cost'.

Since relating the Universal Truth ('Nature loves the hidden flaw') we'd be fools to ignore this factor I think. Live teaches that sometimes 'things will go from bad to worse', Murphy points out the timing of that is often at precisely the least advantageous moment.

Proper Paranoia demands due dillegence. In a fun way it's like an alarm on your house. It doesn't have to be perfect, all it has to do is get Murphy to move on to the next (hopefully less prepared) victim? Dodging the bullet is as good as if it didn't happen.

What you tell (or don't tell) your wife I leave to you....... I've no useful insight to offer there.

Regards to all.

Got it, set yourself up for a Murphy attack. If you'd used the ones you have plenty of spares of.......

As a lad, many many years ago I was a Cub Scout (Junior Boy Scouts). Our 'Den' (group of a dozen or so boys), Den 5, decided on a Totem Pole for display at the annual convention. We each took Oatmeal boxes (cardboard cylinders about 10 inches tall and 6 in diameter) and using paper mache make heads to stack up. Mine had a huge beak. The Denmother's Husband (women ran the meetings and activities) made a pipe pole for us to stack them on (each had holes in top and bottom). We thought it lacked class (didn't look like the pictures) so he made a 6 foot or so plywood set of wings with brackets to hold an Oatmeal box in front of it.

Of course he picked the single 'oddball' box. "A device selected at random from a group with 98% reliability will be a member of the 2% group. It's a Law. Everyone used Quaker brand except one guy who quit soon after.......about the time we discovered it. We kept his head in (what other option?) after he left and encouraged the next 3 new guys to use the smaller brands box......nobody wanted to do it since they could then never be on the top of the pole.

Murphy never misses an easy bet.......unless it's to set you up for later.

Regards and best wishes for the New Year to all.

That’s a Vapman lighter with a selfmade wood adapter.. handy. Who else wants one now? Slanted side for coolness and better grip

Here’s my new stash box. It’s primary for usage at home so I should have gotten a bigger case ;m mine us 18x10cm

That made me think and look again at the egg bottom part - now i need to get a spare egg  and drill a hole in the middle of the bottom part for torch + some cork for insulation/holding the torch...
But really a nice idea  heating vapman without looking, hiding the flame and getting constant results

Indeed it made things simpler..
Somehow I messed it up tough : my vapman torch died so I didn’t spend much time and enlarged the hole to fit one of those 1300C lighters from dx.com - it works but could look more pretty.

Is there much info about how the vapman station measures temperature?
I received a induction heater meant for a diy vapcap heater today and was thinking: can I use this for a vapman?

I guess rather not as it’s gonna be hard to make a female end for the vm bowl to get it heated properly but still..
Likely the vm station works similar...

Had the same in mind, but the measurement/heating process of the station seems quite complex. I can't remember where I read it. Either here on FC or on the Vapman side I think. If I can find it again, I'll post a link.

It's been posted here a few times, the latest (less than six months back) is the best IIRC. It's complex but Rene explained it well.

Look through the posts by the man hisself?

For a more simple, DIY approach why not a simple timer? Basically what we now do with the lighter. You could put 3 or 4 buttons on it for different times (which you'd pick 'on the fly').

If one adds heat measurements... it’s gonna be complex

But something like „butane torch on demand but silent“ is a whole other topic..
If I could get something female which fits the bowl I’m nearly finished
(Add power supply / batteries+charging , the heater, and a push button and you are set to go.

Here is some quotes from @vapman about the heating of the station.

During the first 3.8 seconds, the station measures the actual temperature of vapman and calculates the heating interval according to the setting. In other words, there are two factors having an influence on the heating time, it is the temparature of vapman and the setting. This explains, why the heating time is not always the same on the same setting. On setting 3 for instance, the heating time can be 7 seconds, it can also be 5 seconds only, depending on how hot vapman was when placed on the station.
The station is not as simple as it is to use, it took a while to work out the right temperature, mass of the docking part and the right algorithm for the programming. The challenge was to make the station reasonable fast and still safe without the risk of over heating.

With the station you might not get the fattest clouds but the extraction of the botanicals is close to perfect when not perfect, always gentle and efficient.

It makes me happy to know that you are happy with the station!:)

@ShayWhiteGrow: Thanks for the video!

This a good chance for me to explain a few things a bit closer.

First of all, the station always works with the same temperature, regardless of the setting!

After preheating for about 60 to 75 seconds (depending on the outside temperature) the LED turns from red to yellow, indicating, that the station is now ready to heat vapman.

When placing vapman on the station, the LED starts to blink yellow, the first 3.8 seconds (measuring cycle)
always with the same speed and after that, it will blink faster or slower, depending on the set temperature. The higher the temperature is set, the slower it blinks after the 3.8 seconds.

When the LED turns green, the set temperature is reached and vapman should be taken from the station, if not, the temperature will be higher than indicated on the setting. Green LED also means, the heater is turned off and the station starts to cool down. The longer vapman is left on the station after the green light, the longer it will take to get back to working temperature again.

After taking vapman from the station, the LED turns from green to red, indicating that the heater is turned on again and the station gets heated up to working temperature. As soon working temperature is reached, the LED turns yellow and the station is ready for the next heating cycle.

When vapman is placed on the station while the LED is still red (heat up modus), the LED turns white and the heating process is interrupted as long vapman is left on the station. In this case, vapman should be taken from the station until the LED turns yellow again.

This video shows clearly, that the station also works when instructions are not followed 100% correctly, making it very safe and foolproof.

Don't take this post as a critic of how you use the station, I just took the chance to explain a few things a bit closer!:)

Thank you,

vapman

That's why I had to switch back to the Air for vaping at home. My wife hate the sound of click click FCCHHHCHHCHH in the living room :(

You could always interview for a replacement that has no such issues........

This (the noise of the lighter) has been discussed a time or two before. To no useful end (obviously), but that's no reason why we shouldn't try again with fresh minds?

I think we can separate the noise of the lighter to two sources, the 'clack' of the striker and the hiss of the gas delivery. The first has a work around, we can light it with a spark driven by electronics instead of a mechanical hammer. However, to get the focus of heat we need the fuel and air must be mixed first, before the fire part. This is done by a narrow, high speed, jet of Butane which draws air with it before being mixed further and shot through the heat shield to ignite when the temperature goes up enough. To mix it must be turbulent which means inefficient which means sound. We can think about baffling the mixing chamber (AKA 'muffled'), some sound is going to escape out the front most likely.

As an insight, a normal 'BIC' type candle flame uses the same amount of gas (and therefore deliver the same total energy per second), it's just not focused.

The idea of making it into a corded vape, electrically heated on demand, came up as well. And may have merit?

A stand alone, electrically heated post (while dangerous.....) might also work? You'd put the VM on top for 'a five count' and take it off and hit it. It could be set up to deliver the 'right amount' of calories like we do with the lighter. It could have a sliding cover I guess, but touching the heated stem would be something you would not like to do a second time. A corded version is easy, a portable a bit harder without getting big and heavy with batteries. As a guess, something of a coffee mug size should support several sessions between charges and could sit on the coffee table when the urge hits?

Your call. Silent heating is a tough problem, but then again breaking in a new wife can be too?

My build for a induction heater for my vapcap is gonna happen for sure - I will try adding a metal stick/tube and see how that goes.. is the bowl of the vm induction-Powerable tough?

BTW how about a Milaana styled heater (or Mflb concept)?

Microwave vapes work best with fresh cut weed :p
Much easier approach would be to make a battery pack for the station - it's 20V DC if i remember correct, only question would be how much +/- V tolerance the station can take... (@vapman ? )
Eg 5 18650s might equal the same diameter for an 'add on base'?

Induction heating is not possible with copper, it must be iron (steel)! Non iron metals can't be heated by induction, the herb chamber of vapman is made of copper. The chamber could be made of steel but it would not work with the lighter. This is why, I decided on a contact heater.

The station works between approx. 16V to 23V. Below this, it would be quite slow and above this, it will blow the fuse. A battery pack is well possible, friends of mine are already doing it.
