Am I wasting my material?

The pile on the left is what I use. I trash the small leaves and other parts which I'm afraid to use in my FF2 vaporizer. Should I use something of it?

Looks pretty well vaped to me. Best bet is to safe any left overs and make qwiso with it .. No wastage at all :)

thanks! I'm still too green for this, have FF2 only for a month. I would use the leaves but most times I don't, because when I'm stirring the stuff in FF2, it crumbles and makes mess which is harder to clean.

But generally, when you vape, you put part of the bud into into grinder and use all of it, right? Even the leaves that covers the bud. I have one grinder, the plastic Volcano's Storz Bickel but it grinds too fine.

Oh, and the material is not used yet, just a bad lighting :)

that depends on how well it was trimmed. I think I see stuff on the right I would vape but it is hard to know how well grown it is.
those bigger leaf pieces are good to get rid of though

Yes bud in grinder twist .. Empty.. . vape ... Smile.

Your grinder is fine .. If you like less fine don't grind as much.

However fine grind is general ly consider ed to be good for vaping

This is how the whole piece looks (again, colors are not very accurate)

and this is what I got from another supplier, much classier package, no material will be wasted :)

also ordered a 4 piece metal grinder, dunno what to expect, coarser grind hopefully.

You can vape everything in the top pic, but I would clean up some of those leaves if you can as there's a lot still on there and they contain proportionately much less actives than the actual buds.

It's very important to remember that color is not a proper indication of extraction. The brown color indicates how much chlorophyll has been burned off from the herb (green herb = full of chlorophyll, brown herb = cooked chlorophyll). Chlorophyll is NOT one of the active ingredients in herb which get's you medicated, so why bother measuring it?

The whole idea that color = extraction level is completely nonsense

Two Questions:
  • Has vapor production stopped - are you getting zero vapor from your herb at the set temperature no matter how hard you try to stir/cook at set temp?
  • Do you feel "high" or sufficiently medicated after your session?

If you have answered yes to either of those questions, then the answer to your question is no, you are not wasting material.

If you answer no to both of those questions, then you may be wasting material

Folks,
he is showing fresh bud on the left and right pics that he has separated out/ is discarding the right pile. This is not ABV

IMO, yes you are wasting bud as the right pile contains actives, although not as many as the calyxes on the left. Those small leaves etc have goodies in them as they are fresh herb, not ABV.
I'd remove sticks/twigs etc but use the rest of the material.

Now if you have unlimited supply at little to no cost, you could sort out the material with lesser actives and only use the "prime herbage".

You can do whatever you'd like, but you'll get tastier vapor (and not lost much in effects, if anything) if you remove the fan leaves from that cannabis before you use it. Fan leaves are separate from the buds; anything that has a stem and separates from the stalk can be easily pulled off using just your fingers. They're also commonly called 'shade' or 'water' leaves.

Properly dried cannabis has the fan leaves removed before drying in order to prevent a 'hay' taste developing during the dry. Then it is trimmed and has much of the 'sugar leaf' cut off so that only 'buds' remain. It is completely up to you whether you wish to do no trimming, a light 'farmer's trim', or manicure your buds; needless to say cannabis that is dried with the fan leaves won't be 'brought back' to top quality by trimming just before consumption, but for best flavor those fan leaves and stems really should go.

generally if your bud has leaves clinging to it then grind it all up evenly to mix those few leaves with the good parts too... this will act as a filler of sorts and the leaves will also have on them the active molecular compounds that you are seeking for relief... now just using leaves alone will not be as good but I have personally vaporized plenty of leaves ( east coast hook ups) and gotten plenty of effects from vaporizing enough of them... I had some soaring sativa years ago that was just leaves and they tasted minty fresh in the vape as sativas have a more minty aroma... if you are getting old leaves then forget about it, just make edibles with those...

also, want to mention... you see all those little clear translucent pieces sticking inside your plastic baggie? those are thc ( trichomes) and that is the medicine... plastic is static electricity and makes your medicine stick in there.. I recommend glass as your main storage container.. you will retain more available medicine from your product if it's not sticking to the bag.. good luck.. too, save any left over vapes material and plan an edible treat for yourself to experience... and do not throw anything away, send it to the east coast LOL

a good ol mason jar sized accordingly to the amount of material you have will be all needed to store it in out of light etc.. and relatively cool environ... sniff the jar each time you open it and you will develop a deep sense of what you will be experiencing closer later with the vape... your nose senses are your first line of awareness...
