Underdog Log Vapes

How long have you had it? It is repairable, I do know that. Unless the inside of the log is charred. If it is, the body could be replaced or it could be made into an Aircore? Just thinking out loud. Contact @underdog , he'll get you sorted.
I've had it since around September 2015. I wouldn't want it to be made into an air core, I like the way it works currently. And I love the body it has now so I wouldn't want a new one of those either. I don't think the shakiness affects actual performance I was just wondering if it could be better secured because it is slightly annoying.

Hi cameronuu, if you get in touch with @underdogette she can help get you squared away.

The core designs are meant to 'float' in the wooden body without being tightly secured that way the wood can flex and change shape slightly as heat/humidity levels change without clamping down on the stainless and causing cracking.

It does sound like yours is a bit too loose though. Fortunately that should be easily correctable, either by sending it in for us to adjust or if you have (or can get) some snap ring pliers you can do it yourself. We'd need to send you an additional o-ring or two and then you'd pull the snap ring and put the o-ring(s) underneath it then reinstall it. A quick 10 minute fix and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the fast reply. I will definitely get in contact with underdogette so I can have you guys fix it up. I am going to be able to partake again within the next couple days so I don't want to have to send it in right now and be forced to combust, but I definitely will send it in ASAP. Maybe I will order a mini-dog and use that to hold me over while you repair my dog :brow:. Another quick question, do you have any crimped NonG stems left? I like being able to just stick the screen down without having to worry about where it is placed. I see the NonG Lite stem on the website, but I am not sure what the difference is really.

Happy to be of service dude!

I think Underdogette might have a small supply of crimped NonG stems left, if you ask her directly she can check for you. The NonG Lite stem has a slightly thinner walled tip than a normal one and is only compatible with recent cores.. yours may or may not be compatible but we can check for you. The biggest perk of the Lite stems is their lower cost for you guys.

As an alternative to the crimped stem tips you might just pick up an insertion tool (see website) then you can insert the screens to the same depth every time without any fuss.

So today we got an 8+ inches snowstorm in the South? :hmm:

Guess I'll be using my dog for more legal things until Sunday when I can drive back to school. I think this is the 2nd most snow since the 80's.

Was about to head out for work and found this little micro pup at my doorstep.

Way smaller than expected but still solid feeling and small is not a bad thing as I know it'll still rip. Bite is bigger than her bark :)

Thanks @underdog @underdogette - always a pleasure :)

Underdog is also pretty beastly at RocketLeague

Nice! Hey are you using your dimmer straight to the Dog without the extension? How come?

I assume in your dictionary that beastly = hapless? lol

hey, have a quick question. i bought the d020-d to use with the 18mm NonG attachment, but do not like using the nylon piece anymore. the nylon bowl is small and constantly gets clogged making it very hard for me to get good suction through the d020-d. with that being said, i want to sell the bubbler i have and get a 14mm one to use with the 14mm GonG attachment. got any suggestions? hoping to spend no more than $50.

I can't suggest much in the way of glass since the D020-D is our usual recommendation but I might be able to help in regards to the NonG stem... I think @underdogette has a few Oversize NonGs (18mm) left. Those are NonGs but with a larger stainless steel bowl (same size as would be found on the GonG stems). That'd get you taken care of for the lowest price I'd think. :2c:

@underdog

I use it without the extension bc it's a bit neater on my desk. I did a crappy job of cable management on my entire pc build etc and I'm just apathetic to everything rn so too lazy to fix.

With the extension it's just TONS of wire. if I could situate my desk better maybe I'd use the extension, like I was at first.

Also you weren't bad! It was funner than queueing with random chumps imo

@Jared Leibowitz just get a 18mm to 14mm reducer. That's how I use my mini d020 with the GonG.

edit:

i really just need to clean my desk

What if you tie off a bit of it near the dimmer? You could have the same length of cable but have the dimmer somewhere it could rest while you use your Underdog. Speaking for myself, I like the flexibility this arrangement gives me. The dimmer is somewhere I can reach it, and I have a manageable length of cord between it and my dog for use.

@underdog I've been meaning to ask, and this seems like a good time to, with @cameronuu's issue: are the cores in current-gen Underdogs easily interchangeable? And I know it's early, early days, but are you planning the eventual core redesign around the current physical specs, or are you starting with a clean slate? My birthday air core runs a hair cool, and I can overcome it by running it at 12.5-13V, but every now and then I worry about 'running down the clock' on it by running it hotter. If the core ever does give out, I'd love to be able to swap it out and keep the existing wood (sentimental value, you never forget your first :smug:), and if I had the option of swapping in a standard core (or the 'next' standard core, depending on the timeline), that'd be pretty great. Course, I'd have to adopt another dog before then, there's no way I could go dogless while mine was traveling.

Ah, that makes sense (the cords), I need to get some 3' cords again for just such purposes I guess.

Was that a hedgehog we saw earlier???

Yeah I like the 1" inner diameter size so I'm planning on sticking with that except in the case of special things like the Micros. That does mean that in most cases we can do a core swap just like you're talking about. I totally know what you mean about sentimental value, I just rebuilt one of my regular Dogs yesterday so I could have a new prototype core but keep that older body lol.

As far as your Bday Air Core goes if it was always a cool runner then you shouldn't be doing any increased wear on it by bumping the voltage since doing that should just be bringing you up to where it should be (spec wise) and not beyond that if that makes sense?

!!! lol. I was trying to get a good pic but she loves to run around. Her name is Lily :) (hence #1 on my wishlist - I'd like to keep her namesake and memory around after she goes...)

idk how to do spoiler tags but sad story inc:

She was my little brothers. He passed away last July. Drove his car headfirst into a bus.
His gf bought her for him, and they lived together. She didn't want to keep her around, understandably.
Not my first choice of pet (although it was when I was in middle school - loved Sonic haha) but she's really cute and funny.

She always craps on my desk though :(

Great suggestion on the oversized NonG. I have both the oversized and smaller NonG that I use with a D020.
Jared...unless you have tried another glass piece that you really know you like better, I would hang onto what you have and add the oversized NonG. The oversized will not clog as easily and will not need to be loaded as often. The smaller stainless is great for one hit extraction. You can minimize clogging by very gently sucking the material into the NonG. Hit your water tool smoothly without an abrupt hard inhale at the start. You actually can pack your material and clog a fresh screen with the way you fill the load and take your hit. This is especially true with a fine grind. Empty the NonG right after use. An hit after emptying can also help. Anybody else have tips to keep things from clogging?

muunch

I second the hit after emptying, and also recommend blowing the vaped material out of the stem while it's still warm. The muslin bags are really indispensable. I rarely even take a hit after emptying, I just blow the avb into the bag right after blowing out my hit and I haven't had issues or even had to think about a more in depth cleaning.

edit:

also coarser grind definitely helps if you aren't already doing so.

There? Dunno why I even had it the other way. Hope this pic doesn't induce vertigo lolll

Thanks for the suggestion.

Took me a few seconds to figure out which way was up, haha. But yep, that's what I meant, makes it a piece of cake to tighten or let out the leash and only have as much length as you need.

Thanks, that does make sense. Also good news that a core swap isn't impossible, if ever I find myself needing one.

For The Birds....
so i stupidly bought a nice new lost pup and forgot to add that i'd like a dimmer w/ led so i ended up ordering them separately. got my purpleheart a day early (woo hoo, named him ogden) but am still awaiting the dimmer. something must be up in memphis because it's arrived, departed and arrived there a few times now according to tracking. sheesh! i hate wintery weather :p.

anyway couldn't be happier with my purchase. gong + jhook = all i'll ever need. plus buttering up my dog is kinda relaxing after a sesh. also i haven't gotten around to trying my other stems but i really appreciate having an extra couple thrown in for good measure for free and thanks for that.

one thing though: mine is a lost dog and sometimes (not often) it will like crackle a bit. is that normal lol. i figure maybe it's the type of wood or the crack that the description said was there (by the by, i think underdog lied about that, i don't see any damage here :p) and performance has been top notch as far as i can tell.

to end this novel i'm already perusing the site for my next purchase because my dog is already getting lonely while i'm at work so gotta get him a bro or sis!

Shes super cute and looks like a friendly troublemaker! Sad about your brother but awesome that you have a little desktop poop machine to remember him by.

It's not uncommon for Dogs (Lost or otherwise) to make some popping/tinking sounds as the different metal parts of the core expand and contract. Like after you park your car on a hot day and engine pops/tinks for a while as the metal cools? Same thing.

Yeah lots of times the Lost part of the Dog isn't noticable but I know it's there so wouldn't feel right taking all of your money. I consider it a win-win in that you guys get an deal on a Dog and I don't have to throw a piece of wood in the burn pile!

oh my I cannot wait to try this

That is a sweet looking setup! All it needs now is a wooden bottom for the glass so it can have a wider base and be less tippy!

Yeah, it tips pretty easily. A wooden base would be nice, as it does stay put with the dog resting on top, but in the event it did tip, I would have to worry about broken glass and a possibly damaged intergalactic 'dog.

If your talking about a "crackle" coming from the bowl when you take a hit, mine sometimes does that when I have really good bud, I think It's the goodies boiling into vapor while I'm hitting it.

I've Only heard this while using my Underdogs or HI.

:peace:

Oh yeah I forgot about that kind of crackle.. yeah hitting a fresh bowl of good herb the heat will cause crackling from the material too (not the vape itself).

I have some scraps in the shop and could probably turn you a base in a pretty short amount of time just as a fun break from my normal work. If you want one measure the base diameter and I'll make you one.

One of my NonGs makes a single crack/tick sound about a second after I start drawing, right when it milks up the bubbler. I've developed a tiny Pavlovian pleasure response to it. :)
