Ask him to time how long it takes to fill a bag. That will tell you how efficient the pump is. Also, you will want to know how quickly it reaches vaporizer temperature. If its six years old theres also a good chance the solid valve mouthpiece is pretty grungy. You will probably also want to buy a wear and tear kit from S&B, which will have o rings and screens you will need. I just bought a used volcano also. It's a great machine.

Time to fill a bag tells you nothing because how much herb is loaded in the chamber and bag size changes the fill time.

Things that happen to older Volcano's:
    1. Filter on bottom gets dirty and clogged. (replace filter....very cheap)
    2. Pump diaphragm becomes cracked or leaks pressure. <---this repair is not cheap but is rare. $70usd from S&B Oakland for a pump rebuild+cleaning plus the shipping)
    3. Early sold valve chambers without the yellow band around them have a tendency to leak very slightly, not usually a problem for most people.

I agree that a fill chamber and tamper screen set is a good investment. The Blue o-ring on the solid valve chamber rarely fails. Get one if your is bad or you want a spare.

At six years, you might be looking at a pump diaphragm in the near future. A Volcano that old should carry a much lower price than a newer one. I have 2, a rare "Greenie" and a classic. The classic gets a ton of daily use from several users. It's a 2005 model and the only thing done to it is a filter change each year plus replacing any worn / cruddy fill chamber screens.

Unless the seller warrants that the unit performs 100%, I'd let selling price be your deciding factor. Used ones are common here, I picked up one for a friend off of craigslist for $250 just before Christmas that had almost no wear and is still under warranty. Six years old isn't bad... just make sure you get a low enough price in case you have to send it in. (or a warranty from the seller).

Enjoy it, it's so easy to own and use.

$300 is too much for a 6 year old volcano when you factor in money you will have to spend to get it up to snuff, bags, etc. Theres lots of them on ebay. I bought one on craigslist for an amazing price.

I sold my used one in pa for 400 dollars but it was less than a year old, still had warranty, came with extra bags etc...as far as chamber with the yellow ring around them, i found they leak as well too, probably not as much but still leak a little. Not everyone uses their volcano on a regularbasis so there might not be a bunch of repair work that needs to be done if it wasnt used that much.

My buddy still has his volcano, which is about 6 years old as well, he barely used his though and it still functions as good as mine before i sold it.not sure if hes sold it or still selling it but i believe he wanted 250, and is inPa...what area are u located in, kinda makes me curious...

P.s. if your interested in the volcano, i would definately recommend you checking out the vivape 2, fills bags and does whips like SSV, extreme etc. taste is sooo much better than practically any vape ive ever used and right now yiu can get it for 299 with their "christmas" special...not trying to change your dream of owning a volcano but theres better out nowadays

Theyre definitely out there, but you might have to bide your time until the right one becomes available. I saw some on ebay, but not in your area, so it would have to be shipped.
