vaporizing has *not* been healthier for me

Just another thought.... Have you considered venting out the room after you vape? So the room you vape in isnt full of second hand vapors. This question also leads me to wonder if when you combust, do you do it outdoors, hence better ventilation?

When I got my wisdom teeth pulled before I put a trash bag over my head and filled it up so that I could just breathe in vapors like room air. This was not the smoothest method. It really bothered my nose like as if I had just smelled some pepper.

All this leads me to wonder if vapors from mouth straight to lungs are okay but through the nose and sinuses are not okay.

Also, is it possible that the added suction pressure needed for water pipes to work, can exacerbate asthma problems?

the OP has some weird issue that I'm not sure what to say about it. I've never experienced issues vaping, but smoking is far worse. If there is "pollen" or other shit then your cannabis might not be grown correctly, or something along those lines(flushed, cured, etc). Also you might have built up an allergic reaction to cannabis(I know lots of growers who when touching it get rashes, I myself sometimes get a rash); however I have never heard of it affecting the inhalation.

@norlin: great question. they do, but not nearly as much, maybe 1/5th the strength of the wheezing/rattling/coughing I get from vaping herb. I was a diehard omicron user for a while, had the v1 and v2 and used them exclusively for about 5 months vaping nothing but oils and waxes. i didn't have so much a problem back then, just the occassional wheeze and cough, but not nearly as strong/often. It was bearable. I did elect to leave the exclusive omicron domain though, as I really missed the freshness and flavor of flowers, and the omicron made my breath stink like HELL for some reason. Dried out my mouth, and I swear I could taste the metallic nychrome wire in my mouth. After finding out the carts and wires were made in china, I looked into a thermovape dart LV, then eventually went back to vaping flowers only.

So I'm not sure which was responsible for the success, but I saw some *limited* success/progress last night trying the tips out I've seen in this thread. I triple layered the screens to cut down on particulates getting through, but the biggest "combo breaker" for me, was taking a 2nd shower midday.

The dry lung theory seems to be on to something. I theorized that the reason I only coughed at night, and not in the mornings, was possibly because the hot steam in the shower hydrated my lungs a bit. So, I took a few extra sessions, made sure I got that wheezing/rattling sensation in my chest just a little bit, then I hopped in the shower at 8pm and took a 15 minute *hot* shower, breathing deeply the whole time. I popped out, rattling/wheezing sensation is gone. I coughed up quite a bit of mucus in the shower, so I'm guessing the liquid water condensing in my lungs unsticks them, and gets me to cough up particulates and irritants via mucus.

I vaped again, then went to bed. I woke up this morning with a *very* slight rattling/wheezing, but it went away about 5 minutes after I woke up (compared to an hour, hour and a half of hacking and wheezing in the morning).

@luchiano/venemous: I'm going to get a humidifier next to my bed. I think you may be right. So, THANK YOU.

@JRR Tokin (awesome handle btw) : Ah, lots of variables at play here. I change the water in my bubbler every morning, usually with a bottle of crystal geyser drinking water (bottled, i know i know, waste of $$$). lately I've switched to trying out my local city (san jose)'s tap water. I swear, tap water stacks about an inch higher in my bubbler. San Jose is known for its very hard water, wonder if that has something to do with it?

I would recommend you to buy a brita or any other filtering home sytem to have filtered tap water!
A good test for particulates is to take some tights, cut a layer, put it on the mouthpiece of your piece, apply your mouth, take a rip and check the deposits on the tight!

On the mind set of dry air. Do you notice if its worse in the winter, or in a cool heavily air conditioned area say after a really long movie at the theater?

I went through these same symptoms at one point when I fell into a very sedetary lifestyle. It was bad like you say, I was almost thinking of quitting vaping and wondering about cannabis altogether to be honest. I realized my lungs just werent clearing the "resin" as quick as I was putting it on. I took a 2 week break and did a food detox, while getting back into my healthy active lifestyle. Now that I excersize(not hardcore just basic daily shit) I no longer suffer these symptoms from vaping let alone even smoking. Not trying to say you are out of shape because I obviously don't know your lifestyle, but a detox and more active life will cause your metabolism and everything to be so much stronger and faster. Obviously the mucus is your body getting rid of toxins and irritants, so you have alot this means. Either from vaping or diet or environment. Instead of finding which it is excrete it faster than it can build up cutting down on exposure to all these things and forcing an extremely active lifestyle DAILY. Like someone said try cardio 30 mins a day and you will drink so much more water and really clean those lungs. Cuz vaping or smoking still coat the lungs, its a matter of how long you let it stay there. If you already are very active and eat right, I can't help you, I'd say take 2 months off inhaled cannabis, or even all together.

Remember to use distilled water in the humidifier. If you don't, you will get crazy calcium buildup inside the unit and you won't get much mileage.

Vicks also makes some additives you can place in the water. A few drops really helps. I run two of these units during the winter and spring for my children in their rooms. Makes a big difference for them.

Also if you haven't done so, try the hot water in the bubbler if you are taking whip hits. I find it quite soothing and very enjoyable. I also find I don't cough as much.

@nosferatu: well, looks like you've got my card pulled, haha. i used to bein great shape considering my smaller frame - i weighed only 135lbs at 5'9" and was doing 10 rep sets of 155lbs on the bench. but, 2 years ago, i switched to a job that let me work from home 35/40 hours, and obviously that is when my vaping went up exponentially. and i think that is about the time the symptoms started.... so you are not too off base in saying i am a fat, out of shape vape potato!

Hahahah that's a hilarious way to put it...but yeah we could probably both exercise a litte more and not take 200+ vape hits a day.

For me, especially in the summer, i notice more sensitivity to hot dry air. I vape only for about 2-3 pulls off my MFLB, and discard the vaped. i know it is not done, but i guess i like more "juicy" hits when it is so hot. Juicy meaning, more moisture in the plant matter, and I don't worry about the waste.

In the winter, i notice I vape more often longer, 3-6 pulls per small trench.

I would look into mold being a cause. You say you get it from a nice dispensary, but it could come down to how you store your stash, or even a mold infestation somewhere else in your home.

Not sure why, but around by me, a lot of people can not spot moldy herb. This led to me getting stuck with it pretty often before I knew myself. At first I just thought it was shitty. I'd vape it, and then couldn't breathe. Combusting it was better, but still not great. This is because vaping kills almost none of the spores, but combusting does take out some of them. The symptoms of a mold infection are the same as you've got.

I can't help you much as far as finding it in your home, if that's the issue, but I've got a couple tips to spot it on your herb. Really bad mold contamination you can see as white threads, almost like what you get on food in the fridge. That's almost never an issue as it's easy to spot and people throw it out. Less severe mold contamination can be spotted by it's smell, for one thing. Moldy herb has a sour, ammonia type smell to it. Another thing you can do to spot is hold the bud up in front of a light, and flick it with your finger. Keif and leaves are fairly heavy. When they fall off, you'll see them go straight to the ground. If you see a sort of dust cloud poof out of the bud and things float up, those are mold spores.

I don't think it's an issue with what you're buying. They wouldn't be in buisness long selling moldy buds. Take a look though, around your house for mold, and make sure you store your buds in a cool, dry room, in an airtight container.

interesting - my house is new (built 4 years ago when my wife and i moved in). and my wife is a neat freak, so we keep a pretty neat house, though we have a cat and a dog. hmm. i spot check my nugs with a mini 45x microscope, and i'm pretty sure they're not moldy..

i just remembered, my neighbor had a water leak when the house was new, but it was dried, re-drywalled in the bad spots, and they came back a week later with a fancy ir/temp scope and camera tomcheck for moisture spots. everything checkec out.. and this was 4 years ago. the coupke in tha house (who i used to be college roomates with the husband) report no breathing issues, nor does my wife...

Go vape rosemary or lavender or another herb and tell us your results. Perhaps you have sensitive lungs.

Even big name dispensaries like this sell weed from commercial growers, and when you buy it it's usually been dried but not cured. So it cures over time. Do you have any medication from them you got over a month ago? With curing comes the breakdown of chlorophyll and irritants. I only say this because I found out the BIG NAME trusted dispensaries in my town where selling poorly finished weed. Not on purpose, but because their growers bring it to them when really it may have been better if kept and cured for a month. I would try to find an organic grower or collective. Weed is a whole different thing when its not grown with "organic nutrients" but real organic "compost." Sounds dumb but I would go so far as to say I don't trust the quality coming from my "medical" marijuana dispensaries, so your's may be no different. Although I know Harborside has at least one grower who does true old fashioned organic gardening.

I'm probably way off base just throwing out ideas.

I would love to offer any assistance I could here - I am a severe asthmatic for 35 years now. I suffer from allergies in just about every category and to be quite honest vaping really saved my life. I started vaping a few years ago trying to clear up smokers cough, in the beginning I had no intention of this becoming a total replacement of combustion. Within a few weeks I recognized that vaporizing not only offered a superior high but I began to see improvement in my breathing. At that point I started to really research the benefits of vaporizing and that's when I stumbled upon FC. Being part of this community helped me transition totally from the flame and I became a self proclaimed vape junkie. Since the switch I have went from having to refill my asthma inhaler from 1 or 2 times a month to once every 3 months - I also recently was told by my MD that I no longer need to continue using an inhaled steroid and for the first time in about a year am I able to keep up with my 3 kids without totally losing my breathe. I strongly suggest anyone having difficulty breathing or with any allergies and they somewhat have any inclanation that it may be vaping - see your doc. I am always open to private discussions about this as this is a SUPER important subject to me - good luck with whatever your choice is but I will tell anyone - its true when they say vape4life!

Just a tip - if you want to eliminate the allergy factor - take Allegra (fexofenadine)about two hours before your first session. If there's any improvement that day - its time to make an appointment with an allergist.

What vaporizer do you have? Have you tried higher-end vapes? I know "China" Vapes give me respiratory problems because they combust/made of nasty materials.

My advice to you is to try to stop using budders or oils for about 3 months.

I never thought about amonia but regardless i cant imagine frequent vaping being anywhere near as bad as frequent combusting...

Just an update, I wanted to thank everyone for all their advice. I'm glad to report I've seen really good results just by following the dry lung advice! I got a humidifier and I've been running it in my room overnight while I sleep. I can go to bed wheezing and rattling, which usually means guaranteed pain when I wake up the next morning. But now I wake up just fine, and even going to bed, as soon as I take the first few breaths of cool humidified air, I can feel the chest "tightness" opening up and the rattle stops "rubbing" my trachea causing the itching/must cough response.

I think my dry lungs were also aggravated by long term benadryl/zyrtec use. I thought i was allergic to marijuana particulates at first (as rubbing ground herb on my skin results in red splotches and raised welts). At first it seemed to help but eventually it just made the symptoms worse - i did some research and it turns out a primary side effect of zyrtec/benadryl/antihistamines is that it dries out all your mucosal membranes. Well, that explains that, I guess.

I've also been cutting back on how many vape sessions I'm having per day (this is absolutely the hardest part), and i'm starting to exercise a bit more. i still get rattling/wheezing on heavy sessions with the LSV, but sitting back in humidified air will clear my airways back in about 15-20 minutes. The hard thing to do, is to not walk right back to my sesh area and start vaping again! Must let lungs recouperate..

That reminds me, though. I get way less wheezing/rattling with my arizer solo, or da vinci. using my LSV through my newest sheldon black bubbler, i still get tons of hacking and coughing, rattling and itching, etc. I'm pretty sure it's the volume of hot air I have to take in with the LSV for a good bubbler-filling hit, which dries my lungs out instantly - whereas smaller sips from the solo/davinci only dry it out a bit, which is much easier to recover from in between sips.

I hope this advice helps others in my situation..

Im getting chest tightness from my conversion, lungs clearing out, kind of like yours. However, i exercise daily and breathe very well during.
Mine is also from a back/muscular tightness issue. I need a chiro desperately but cant afford it.

My solutions, if you have a gym membership, sitting in sauna daily and doing deep breathing....with eucalyptus oil when i have it.
works wonders.

You could also buy a nebulizer for that and inhale isotone 0.9% NaCL (salt water) vapor through a mouthpiece. The advantage would be that depending on the quality of the nebulizer the water particles would be very small, so they can easily bypass the bronchi and reach all parts of the lungs/airways. So you could reach the same effect as with the air humidifier, just faster and more efficient.

It's meant for people with asthma, COPD and stuff, but can of course also be used with dry airways. It helps the airways clean itself, which is especially of benefit if your airways have been damaged by smoking for decades.

I might look into one to clean my airways and improve my cardiovascular performance/endurance. Thanks
