Unknown "part" of glass...? Your knowledge pls?

hey guys, my brother came back from amsterdam with this piece of glass which he broke accidentally at a head shop and after paying for it they gave it to him. I guess he was so stoned that he forgot to ask what it was... can anyone figure out what this is?

An ash catcher of some kind. Is there a whole on the bottom?(not the ground glass side)

It looks like the non-gong end is where it's broken.
So I think it has an open end.

Are those holes near the GONG end on the outer part?
If so, I looks like it could be some kind of removable dome perc?
(but that wouldn't make sense if it had an open end at that break, if there is a hole there
If there isn't, I'm guessing it was a handle thing that broke off [a handle for pulling the perc out].)

i like the idea of a removable perc, but to me, it is just too much glass to clean. that thing gets dirty inside and outside.
