Why are you and your company so resistant of having your units reviewed or tested by someone else outside of your company? Instead of depending on the hype of your product to increase sales?

I'm guessing that they just decided not to let the review units hold up distribution to the consumers.

Having said that, I don't care anymore about receiving one of the first batch (thanks @nigel !).
:chill:
I have upgraded (again), and am now going green.

It reminds me a bit of the movie studios that don't want to premiere their latest flick to an audience because they know what kind of reviews they will get...:)

May be a bit of paranoia on some of our parts, but when something is really good, most companies want to show it off as much as possible...

Maybe the "beta" group session will allay some of our trepidations...

or....they see this the way Apple does it...keep everything secret, then throw the specs and info at you, but nobody knows a thing untill they actually hit the market.

But that's not what they said. What they said was they didn't want to get any out for review because it would bite into the amount of units that they wanted to release and could push back their release date, but as I said previously, that makes no sense to me. How could releasing a few beta units to reviewers do anything as far potentially pushing back their release dates due to not enough units being available. What makes more sense is that it could push back their release date because the initial units put out for beta review may prove to be faulty in one or another, which, btw, is pretty typical for any new product launch and is the exact reason why a manufacture SHOULD release a few betas for review before any launch date has been committed to.

The ONLY way that a few beta review units could hold up distribution to consumers is if the beta units got bad reviews.

Somethin' just doesn't seem right here.

I would feel more comfortable contributing to the campaign if I was assured of a 'rain check' ticket that I could cash-in at a date of my choosing, maybe even 6 months to a year past the initial release. I'd want the bugs ironed out so I have less chance of having to hassle with warranty and shipping, etc. :2c:

I don't think that's quite what was said.

The review units wouldn't come out of a final production run (which is still some time away). They've mentioned all the units they currently have, they are using for development tests. So this basically means doing a limited test run.

Now I'm not sure why a limited test run would somehow push back the first production run. I can see not wanting to focus attention on a test run that might take away from attention that needs to be put into the first run. But as they refine the design, I would think they would have to do limited test runs anyway at various point to test the modifications. (Unless most of the changes are not hardware and the hardware is already a fixed design.)

Ok, now I'm really confused, but don't try to explain further. I'm confused enough about this whole Grasshopper thing and the more this thing plays out, the more confused I get, so maybe it's best that I just sit back and see how it all goes. I just hope that none of our FC'ers get burned in the process.

If I had a brand new technology backing up such a pretty device I wouldn't let anyone have them early either. Why would I want the early reviewers to possibly break it down and come up with a knock off before my incredible invention would be released? They have said February. They mean February, not December, not January. It is a mere $100 investment. Much less then the infamous Wiz-Vape  Let them work and bring it to us. Testers will be US in February. Those complaining and speculating need to go watch the videos they have up and get over it. I'm sure you can pick up bitching where you left off in February when the GH is released to the public. This is what this forum is for, picking apart new vapes, for the good of all of us. Unfortunately, IT IS NOT OUT YET! I bought my Solo while I was waiting for the Ascent to come out. That being said, boy I'm glad the Ascent was delayed. I love them both. Maybe this thing is so incredible the GH team reads this thread and chuckles at the naysayers each time they bitch. This is what builds momentum for a product release and guess what? If it is a dud there is a LIFETIME warrenty to ease your mind.:) Go buy a Ascent, Cera, and Solo and have a Merry Christmas!

I have solved the beta issue:

The campaign is over goal so I will generously beta. You keep wondering or doing aerospace engineering or whatever it is you do. When I find out if it's any good, in feb, I'll let you know. Then you can go buy one, or not.

Or you can demand beta testing from every other indigogo project, and see how that works for you. Crowd sourcing funding is distributing investing, and the product is a reward. You're not buying the vape, they are just nice and giving you a gift for your contribution. Anyone who thinks otherwise is welcome to explain why to their local customs when they go pick it up.

You are start up capital. In fact, maybe it would help you if you think of it this way:

Your gift for helping them is that you get to beta test a presumably more polished product. You get to be beta without asking and getting kicked off FC! Isn't that swell?

To imply that the lack of a precedent is a compelling argument not to break the mold goes in the face of every major development in history.

Where was the precedent for Brown v. Board of Education? Was it Plessy v. Ferguson which ruled that segregation in public buildings was constitutionally just?

I thought , in general .
You don't have to pay any $ to beta test .

Before I get crucified for saying this, I'm an avid Apple enthusiast. That being said, ever buy a first generation Apple product? Welcome to the beta test crew =P

Crucified? Hell, I've been using Macs exclusively ever since I got the original Mac Plus when it was first introduced.

But yeah, getting on board with ANY first gen product is a real crap shoot............Apple included.

I'm guessing that we won't see beta/review units out until after the campaign ends. Remember even though they've met their goal they don't see a dime until the end of the IndieGogo campaign. Based on what the GH team has said they sunk all their money into R&D and building the few existing beta units, which they are using to finalize PCB, heater design, etc. So they can't exactly spare those. Also keep in mind that grasshopper isn't really even a company yet, just a bunch of guys with an idea and a few finicky prototypes, unlike companies like TET or vaporblunt who had the resources to build a few extra prototypes to give out, grasshopper are just a bunch of college kids who I'm guessing aren't exactly rolling in the dough

It may be the idea of "a few finicky prototypes" that makes people that much more curious how it is going to perform, no?

I've invested in several crowd-funded campaigns, and most were not without hiccups, but, for the ones that were for actual produced objects (not, say, literature), they were past the finicky prototype stage when they started raising money.

So after the Indiegogo thing is over, do you still think they will be $99 if you wanted to buy one from their website? Or is getting one now for $99 a deal because they are gonna raise the price at a later date?

However, I also vaguely remember sending my money away for a Stealthvape, cough, cough, and we know how that turned out.

IMO, the major difference here is that StealthVape wanted us to pre-order without showing a demo video. There wasn't a usage video for StealthVape until their supposed release date, and that was a really weak video as well.

So after the Indiegogo thing is over, do you still think they will be $99 if you wanted to buy one from their website? Or is getting one now for $99 a deal because they are gonna raise the price at a later date?

It's only a deal if the unit works as advertised. That $99 could also easily be gone and you won't get a unit.

But, yes, price of the GH will go up. To what price? IDK.

You're vaporizing weed, not desegregating education.

Get a grip.

Personally I have no idea why you are hung up on a beta. You and I have no idea who has already beta tested this product, only that they aren't talking. If you don't feel comfortable funding this, do not. Millions of mactards buy new iphones without knowing if they've been vetted. Think they have? One word: Antenna-gate. Buy the later editions if you are sweating it.

Everyone who buys a first generation product is a large scale beta tester. Even something with sixth sigma QC is a numbers game; you see enough, you see QC issues...witness spare parts for your Rolls Royce and space shuttle explosions.

I personally think @grasshopper's argument against beta'ing was kind of lame, but guess what? They found the gap in the market. They developed this vape and allegedly developed one or more patent-worthy processes. They started the campaign. They did all the logistical work (allegedly). They absolutely orchestrated the marketing and demoed an attractive enough product that will probably get them double what they needed to do this. They did it all WITHOUT beta's. What you and I want is 100% irrelevant and all this does is come off like whining.

Funding this is funding bringing it to market because IT DOESN'T EXIST outside prototype, which are in no way a beta unit. If you need it to exist before you pay it, then don't pay in. It really is that simple.
