Has anyone else seen this?

Green House Seed Co. on expeditions to identify and collect land races around the world. They went to Malawi in 2008 and India in 2009.
The video of the India expedition was put up about 10 days ago.

I now have a new dream career path

Landraces are nice for posterioty, think about it, are we using native maize for corn? No, we are using super hi-breds. We just opened up a 125 year time capsule in my rural area and it was filled with certain seed types. All of which have been vastly improved since then.

Lol, nah i don't think so. Its a nickname my friend gave me whilst we were stoned. as far as im aware it's just a play on my surname but i'll ask him.

Yeah you're right but I think they just want to collect them to ensure they save strains with purer genetics, and so they can crossbreed them with other strains.

Either way trekking round the world looking for weed is just cool as fuck!

I saw the India expedition yesterday and was blown away!

It is a great hour of TV: Along the journey you learn about some of these remote places and peoples and how International prohibition hurts small family farmers and destroys centuries old traditions around hash making and consumption. You also get to meet some old Italian and Dutch hippies who have truly dropped out and tuned into the Shanti Vibe.

I am looking forward to the Malawi and Africa episodes.

Thanks for sharing. I did not know this.

About 25 years ago I met some people who travel around and live for years with shamens to learn from in central and south America as well as Africa and other places in the world to learn about substances but they were people really into shaman type stuff.

The stories they told then were amazing and I am not even talking about their tripping experiences

Edited in later.
I never wanted to see India but now I do hehe.

I disagree with that
it matters where it is adapted too
most of our present strains are adapted to inoor and commercial goals(big harvest, potent enough to be a good seller, and the heavy sativa effects made milder because many people don't like that or can't handle it)
sadly I never had the pleasure to try landraces(besides the common available afghan and nepal hash, I'm after sativa's so the afghan isn't that special to me, the nepal hash isvery good tough)
and some of the best most famous strains are only a little removed from the landraces(haze for example)

and unfortunatly are almost all our present strains crossed with indica, not much pure sativa;s around except the sativa landraces, and I'm a sucker for sativa, most commercial strains available are too much indica to my liking
the best(mostly sativa, wich is equal to good for mecompared to more indica) I havwe boufght at a coffeeshop so far was some haze(with nothing in front of ot, so possibly pure haze, looked like it at least, loose airy sativa buds) and the nepal hash of wich I still have some remaining
I still want to take a trip around the world someday and go to all the traditional sativa regions and try as much sativa landraces as possible and collect seeds for breeding

Chant Down Babylon
Genetic diversity for hybridization and breeding projects, serious breeders rather than "pollen chuckers" is eSsential to high grade super dank herb.
This is very important.
