Does anyone have any experience with treating Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) with cannabis? I read a study that showed it helped. I also read indica is best but maybe that was because it was used at night. Better to take THC or CBD? Or both? Just looking for input or thoughts. Thanks.

Benadryl aka Diphenhydramine gives me RLS big time.

    Can't answer your question though,

I have talked with people with RLS and they indicated it did help, and they were advocating for our state med cannabis program to add it.
I talked even more extensively with persons with Phantom Limb Syndrome which is very similar and they said cannabis was the ONLY thing that worked for them and it was a life saver.

There was a small study recently on RLS and cannabis but the numbers were small, like 6 people, but most (5?) reported complete success and the 6th found success with CBD.

Cannabis is known to help other movement disorders like Parkinson's and also be of great help for side effects of RLS, like sleep problems. Likewise, cannabis and all things "pain" is a match made in heaven :)

Cannabis helps tune up the nervous system/messaging transmission/reception so there is every reason to believe it should help RLS.

Which strains worked? Most seemed to find best results with Indica dom strains but with THC in there too. Yet, some found heavy THC hybrids work better.

And probably experiment to find a daytime strain and a nighttime sleep/knockout strain

I have RLS and haven't found that it helps. In fact, it's a tiny bit better since I've been on a 2 week break.

Thanks everyone. It should fall under chronic pain cause it hurts in the legs.
Maggie, sorry it is not working for you. Most reviews/input I have read say it is very helpful. It is a very un-understood issue. Maybe a longer break will be the solution for you.

My mom has this and coffee completely exacerbates it. When she goes on coffee breaks it pretty much goes away. MMJ might help but it doesn't eliminate RLS in her case.

Iron and magnesium are supposed to help. I'm low in both but neither has helped consistently.

I know several people with RLS. All of them have been helped by applying Magnesium oil to their legs after bathing in the morning and again before bed. It is highly bioavailable compared to other forms of magnesium. If you haven't tried it, I recommend giving it a shot.

Magnesium oil is simply Magnesium Chloride dissolved in water. The resulting solution has an oily feel at first. It can cause itchiness that can be avoided by following its application with a body cream.

Interesting. I have heard that taking mag supplements can help. There is also a pill that a Dr. can prescribe that is suppose to help - something that also helps Parkinson disease.

I take magnesium, iron and omega-3s to alleviate symptoms of RLS (@little maggie I'm sorry you haven't had consistent results with them). This is the first time hearing about magnesium oil--sounds promising, will give this a go. Thanks!

And @Dirtrider, cannabis helps but I find that I get more relief from using KT tape.

    Best of luck!
