Alright, so I've been trying to convert to vaping for about a year now after being a daily bong smoker for years. My problem has always been that vaping could never get me anywhere near the type of high a bong gave me, even when vapebonging.

I tried many portables, the MFLB, the Solo, the Da Vinci, and the Ascent. None of them got me anywhere near where I wanted to be. I currently own the Ascent with a water adapter, and even vapebonging with it plugged into an outlet doing 2 bowls in 10 minutes (as vapebonging seems to finish a bowl faster this was the only way I could think of to maybe get near that point but it was way less conservative), I couldn't get there. Also tried all ranges of temperatures up to the max of 430F.

This caused me to almost give up entirely on vaping for anything but daytime highs where I wanted to be functional and alert.

Then 2 weeks ago, my buddy texted me saying he just bought a Volcano. Now I had always wondered if a desktop would get me higher than a portable, but I couldn't seem to find any definite answers anywhere online. I ran over to his house immediately.

Now this thing PUT. ME. ON. MY. ASS. It was the highest I've been in years, giggling on the couch, unable to have a coherent conversation for the first hour, after which I was comfortable vaping infinitely more and able to chat but still really high.

This led me to rave review about the Volcano and how I had finally discovered that desktops were far better and far more powerful as far as the potency of your high goes than portables. I'm literally itching to go out and order a VapeXhale Cloud EVO (I've heard it's the best on the market, and I have a lot of really nice glass from my smoking days which I want to still be able to use, and wouldn't be able to with a Volcano).

But before I drop $450 on a EVO, I want to make sure I wasn't just getting a placebo effect and convincing myself I was higher than I was. My friends commented on how ridiculously high it got me, but at the same time I hadn't seen a couple of the 3 guys there in awhile, and have pretty bad anxiety at times so it may have been an anxiety attack contributing. It's really hard for me to tell unless I have a solo sesh

So I want some opinions. Did the desktop vape really get me THAT MUCH higher than my Ascent? Will a Cloud EVO make me the happiest stoner ever? PLZ HALP MEH!

    Not placebo.

    Volcano is the fucking shit.

I hear there are other bag vapes out there, but I haven't tried them.

I've been on concentrates exclusively for the last year and a half, but if I'm going to try flowers again it's going to be the Volc.

Desktops are generally more heavy hitting than portables IME. I haven't personally tried the EVO - but I've only ever heard great things about it. If you haven't already, you should check out the EVO thread - I'm sure you'll spot members there with the EVO and portables in their signatures who can offer their opinion on how they compare.

Few things to keep in mind - typically you need to give up combustion for a week or two weeks and vape exclusively in order to really learn what it really means to get buzzed. Carbon monoxide and other carcinogenics caused by combustion are fooling your mind into thinking that sudden headrush is cannabis.

Believe it or not, the Davinci Ascent was my first real vape, and i spent a week dedicated to using it before I was able to fuck combustion forever. Sure the DV ascent sucked because it's heater is massively underpowered. But this is the nature of electronic portables - battery efficiency over performance (A butane powered portable like the Lotus on the otherhand - can knock you on your ass in under 3 minutes!). Seriously, the Ascent got me medicated, but it took me over 30 minutes with a large load to get partially medicated. My wife started to bitch when I had the Ascent tethered to my hand the whole damn night! So I started to look into other harder hitting vapes. Now I need less than 10 minutes to get medicated for several hours.

The Volcano is a nice vape - but it's no longer the king of vapes. There are a lot of other vapes you can find in your price range. The EVO is a nice vape - but you don't even need to spend that much on a desktop vape to get that kind of performance. Since power conservation is less of an issue, many desktops can rip harder than their portable counterparts.

I've got the E-Nano at less than half the price of the EVO and I think several others would agree, they are both well performing vapes. Yet the Nano is a more wallet friendly option (and beautiful with it's wood exterior!). Don't get me wrong, the EVO is a nice vape - but I don't feel the need to blow $500 on a vape when I can do the same thing with many desktop vapes in the $200 price range.

Oh, another thing you might want to remind your friend - vapor condenses the longer it sits in a bag. To make the most use of the vapor produced by the Volcano, you should finish the bag in less than a minute or two (from what I've read, others please correct me if I'm wrong).

You get a lot more vapor per hit with the big hitters like bag fillers (if you hit the bag big), EVO, etc., but you don't need to spend a fortune to get those big high volume vapor doses. Any full size whip vape (Vapor Bros., DBV, SSV) can pack a punch. A model using water filtration, like the EVO, will allow even bigger hits due to the smoothing effect of the water, but if price were an issue I'd be fine with using my SSV vs. the EVO.

As for any Volcano 'magic', it's just a lot of available vapor in a bag, where you take as much per hit as you like. The much cheaper herbalAire or Extreme can put the same vapor in a bag if you load a similar amount.

I've never had a volcano, I have used one and like my DBV and OG Cloud much better. I have owned an Ascent, a Solo and a Pax. There is no comparison between any of those portables and the DBV or the VXC in terms of power.

The DBV may be powerful enough for you. I used one for over a year before I slowly started wishing for something a little more powerful. The Cloud was it for me. I bought a used one here in the "classified" section. The Cloud blows the DBV out of the water. I still use my DBV, but when I want to get really high, only the Cloud will do. I missed the last massdrop for the EVO, but I've got my request in for the next one.

The thing I like about the Cloud over the DBV is that to get massive hits on my DBV, somewhat comparable to the Cloud, but not as smooth or tasty, I have to teeter near the combustion point. It takes a little technique and concentration. With the Cloud, I just set it and rip as slow or fast as I feel like and I get massive tasty hits. This is especially good when using it with people with no experience. With the DBV, to take combustion out of the equation with noobs, you have to set it lower than that which delivers optimal hits. The Cloud, you can set it to give massive hits with no possibility of combustsion.

I have never used a E-Nano, but a friend has an Underdog, a different log vape, and the DBV and especially the Cloud far outpower it.

    No placebo.

The best portable has nothing on desktops. I love my Pax, but it is a joke compared to my Plenty.

There are many good options so do the research. I will say if your sights are set on an EVO don't settle. You will eventually end up getting what you really wanted anyway and you will have wasted money in the process. At least that was true for me.

The EVO is great for use with a water path but there are other, cheaper options. The EVO does not hit as hard as my OG Cloud but they greatly improved on the design and created a nail accessory.

It irks me when people mention the DBV/SSV for use with a water pipe but leave out the LSV. They're all made by 7th floor and all have similar internals however the LSV is designed for water pipe use. No whip, just insert the 14 or 18mm WPA (water pipe adapter) in your bong, push the LSV down onto the adapter a rip. It provides a very similar experience to smoking IMO. There is no concentrate accessory for the LSV but it can be had for well under half the price of the EVO and it can hit every bit as hard as an EVO.

The EVO and LSV will get you to the same place, the EVO just does it a little better. As it should considering the price.

The Life Saber Vaporizer (LSV) thread

VapeXhale introduced the original Cloud and made a couple revisions (Cloud and Cloud Plus) before releasing the very different, much improved Cloud EVO which is the only one that's currently available from VapeXhale.

z9, I use my DBV with no whip. I mate my DBV with my D020 bubbler with an 18/18 m/m gg adapter. I love my DBV, but the Cloud is superior for hard hitting, smooth vapor, and taste. Also z9, I understand that your OG Cloud outhits your EVO, this is not necessarily the consensus opinion. I don't know if there is a consensus, I just know there are people on both sides of the fence on that issue.

sektr, you probably will be satisfied with a DBV/LSV/SSV or log vape like a E-Nano, or other equivalents. I base this on your response to the Volcano. I love the DBV, I have 3 of em.

I think z9 may be correct that the LSV can hit as hard as the Cloud, but it takes work. When you hit a 7th floor vape harder, you cool the air stream and the vapor production decreases. You have to hit slower to get thick vapor and then you risk combustion. When you hit the Cloud or the EVO harder the heater gets hotter to compensate for the increased airflow and you get massive hits. When you hit slow, the heater also compensates and at "proper" settings will not combust.

sektr, this is just my experience and YMMV. If you are vaping 2-3g a day or less with your Ascent, a DBV/SSV/LSV, log vape, or other equivalent will likely satisfy you.

    Have fun choosing!

Looks like thats a consensus opinionthen, ill be ordering a desktop ASAP!

Im leaning towards the EVO despite other cheaper recommendations, mostly because im a huge fan of the simplicity and ease of use. I regularly have a friend or two over seshing with me and many peoples biggest issue with vapes have been needing to use a certain technique for best results. The EVO eliminating this problem AND being the arguably undisputed king of water filtration vapes more than justifies the price difference for me!

    Super stoked.

Just a heads up, if your friends are particularly clumsy, the LSV might be a better option.

It's something like 1/2 the price, gives just as good hits (it requires a little but more technique than the cloud, but honestly IMO it's ridiculously simple to pick up and use.)
It's harder to break by dropping/general clumsiness, and if it does, it's most probably gonna be the easily & cheaply user replaceable heater cover.

If you've got the cash and coordinated friends though, jump right on that evo train

Cash definitely isn't the issue, and my friends know the "you break it you buy it" rule with anything over $100 in my house, so I'm not too concerned there. Do appreciate the heads up though mate, what on the EVO exactly is easily breakable? Just the GonG joint?

It's got a glass bamboo running up the middle of the unit, which is not user replaceable.

Basically, if you drop it, I'd be expecting the bamboo to break (its not necessarily fragile, but its glass - not steel or something...) and you'll have to pay whatever VXLs service fee is.

Agreed. And just for reference, it cost me $88 a few months ago to replace the bamboo in my EVO after I dropped it. It only fell from about 3 feet, but it hit the GonG at just the right angle to crack it.

You won't be disappointed with the EVO, it really is amazing. It will be very easy for your friends to pick up, there really isn't any special technique needed to get massive rips. As long as the EVO has been on for 10+ minute, you'll be billowing clouds. You can definitely use it as soon as it goes green, but it doesn't reach its full potential until it's fully heat soaked.

    Enjoy the vaping life!

Never weighed out what I put it, but it can hold a decent amount. Depending on your herb, you can easily get 5-10 large hits. The size of the ELBs is not an issue imo.
