Got a better picture today. Not often I'm wowed to fuk by a piece of wood but wow.

There are some great bits of tobacconalia around.
This case nearly got a stem to suit but I decided to go all the way.

The Amboyna Burr Square got finished up and sent out today.
Inlay work is messy and I always end up with stone and glue stuck to my fingers but it's well worth it.
Also took these a step further

Amazing how fast I've got busy again.

3 more stems to do for someone else and another group of ten to get done.

Time to cut and stock up on more firewood, it's been hovering above freezing for too many mornings.

Playing with shape today. I was looking for a sleek, slim look and feel to this vong.
Kingwood is plenty strong enough to cope with the narrower diameter and finishes so nicely.
First part is the pre-wax finish taken down to 1200 grit and Iso'd. Then it's waxed and in hand for a bit of scale.

@Mr. Me2 I've not drank tea/coffee for 35 years that's just how fast I work. The Phlash:lol:
Videos need to be a minute long for Instagram and you'd soon get bored of watching some of them at the proper speed.

@Padriano posted a picture of his Bimblebox Burl stem and a really nice @Aezhenn case on IG the other day which reminded me how much better they look twisted.

Mr. Me2 real time for you.
Wax really makes this wood come to life.

Thank you @Squiby, I understand the need for and will happily turn stubby vongs but I much prefer the slender look.

Threading condensers has always been fun, I can square the die to the tube using the tailstock but they have a tendency to bend out of shape meaning each one needs tapping true again with a copper mallet.

There's always a solution and a quick scout round found just the piece of tooling needed, not so fond memories of engineering work came flooding back.
Tailstock Die Holder was the solution, wasn't sure it was going to be okay for my needs straight out of the box when I tried it with some WD40 type oil.

Apologies for the fone going out of focus.

Of course to be sure it works properly I needed to do a practice run and if I'm making a practice piece I'll kill a couple of birds with one stem and try another idea out.
Watched an amazing pen turner, proper amazing pen turner. Mentally complex segmented pieces.
An idea he used for accents had to be tried out.
BW and Buckeye, synthetic antique ivory and something as simple as blank credit cards, white, black, white sandwich in this case.

@Mr. Me2 low temp or convection powered hand work again for you.

@Ooze thank you. From the start I've been open and honest in all aspects of this adventure, shame some others in the industry don't follow suit, posting videos has been a something customers old and new enjoy so I'm happy to oblige.

Had a lot to get thru recently so I had a little play beforehand. The slender 14mm pieces have been well liked so it was time for another.

This piece of Tasmanian Blackwood didn't want to play the game but I'm not one to throw away nice pieces of wood and the challenge keeps the grey matter ticking over.
Due to the wander the 14mm end just wasn't going to happen so it was cut shorter and I went with African Blackwood. BW from two different continents.

How many of you recognise this song?
Final shape, sand and wax still to left to do before they get packed up and sent out.

Just got caught up on this thread. @phattpiggie, dude that's some awesome looking turns you've been churning out.

Watched the vid you posted from the kinfe maker and it makes perfect sense to me.

Hope all is good with you, haven't had much time to catchup, work has been manic this year for both of us it seems.

Love seeing the vids and pics, your quality and workmanship always amazes me.

Catch you on the flip side.

@GreenHopper nice to see you've had time to play catch up and thank you for the kind words.

Had another customer ask for an IH enclosure and lidded stem.
This one is a piece of Yew that I picked up at the county turners show. It had weights and dates written on it dating back to 2002, whoever got rid missed out on a lovely turn with a really nice and result.

And of course it had to be tested out.
