Oregon Experiences

Recently relocated from SoCal where I was a legal MM patient. Last week, got myself legal in Oregon...the bad news is I have several serious medical conditions. The good news is they qualify me for MM in Oregon. Very different system than in SoCal...they have some clubs here where you can imbibe and meet potential suppliers of medicine. Also attended "Hempstalk"...basically, Portland area might be renamed "Potopia" ;) !
At one of the clubs I got to try a Volcano vaporizer with a bag set up. I normally use a Magic Flight Launch Box. While the Volcano worked well, I actually felt I get more vapor from my tiny MFLB!! I am already a fan of the box, and this was one more plus in its favor. Of course, the Volcano advantage is it's good for passing back and forth among folks. And at home, I am a solo user, so the MFLB is ideal.
Anyhow, I am relieved I qualified here in Oregon, as that was a concern in relocating here. Fortunately, I can access the medicine here I need to help mitigate my medical issues.
Cheers!

Congrats! I lived in Portland for a good five years and am considering moving back. Very chill and relaxed vibe in that city. Was the process difficult? I know the first legal cannabis cafe in the US was opened in Portland, but I don't know much about it or the system there. It seems like anyone in California can get a card.

Hi T-Dub:
When I arrived here, I found one publication with lots of info on the local cannabis situation:

Oregon Cannabis Connection
www.oregoncannabisconnection.com

The medical outfit I used to get legal here also has a branch in the part of SoCal where I used to live...so they already had my extensive medical records in their electronic system. I made an appointment, went to their Oregon office in my area and filled out some paperwork, saw their nurse and doctor and paid their fee. I have several conditions that qualify me...both in Cal and Oregon. After the medical visit, I drove a few blocks to the state office where I paid the state fee and got my paperwork stamped. I am waiting for the actual card to come in the mail, but the stamped paperwork gets you into the clubs.

In SoCal, especially where I used to live, there are dispensaries popping up like weeds (pun intended). You just show them ID and your medical recommendation and you gain entry where you can select what you need. In the couple clubs I've now visited here in Oregon, there's a lot of legal verbal pussyfooting you have to use to obtain medication. It's definitely different, but not necessary worse.

shortwind, thanks for your reply. Perused OCC once or twice online, I'll check it again. Glad you made it up here from Cali. Sounds like your transition went pretty smoothly which is great. I was disappointed by my "card" when I got it in the mail. Its just paper . . . I hope it lasts the year. We have a club in Eugene that is like what you describe, its called Kannabosm. Waiting area is all glass bricks, wood, oversize leather couches . . . very nice. Only OMMP patients can go into the back room of course. Great staff, meds, everything. Getting my card was pretty easy. I am a Psoriatic Arthritis patient, autoimmune disease no cure of course, and my rheumatologist, who actually doesn't sign many of these, signed mine for a good reason. We already went the opiate route. Over 4 years on morphine sulfate ended horribly for me. Withdrawals were the worst, loneliest 5 days of my life, but I made it, and I did it on my own. For me opiates are fine for short term stuff like surgery or dental, and maybe in an "end of life" situation, but for long term use cannabis is best. Its all about quality of life for me now that I am disabled.

Congrats on your choice to relocate to Oregon and in getting your medical marijuana card. There is some wonderful medicine in Oregon, unfortunately I didn't have the luxury of owning a card when I lived there. I now live in Sacramento (and have my card) but wouldn't hesitate to move back to Oregon. I know some great people in Oregon, most notably some great growers - a lot of fantastic flowers are grown there. Anyway, I hope you like your new environment, I know you'll enjoy the Oregon products!

Go Ducks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had never been to Oregon until recently when I drove through en-route to Vancouver, BC and I instantly fell in love with the state. From not being able to pump my own gas to the incredibly large fines for littering, Oregon is doing things right. Talk about a state that cares about conserving the beauty that it has, honestly some of the greenest trees that I've ever come across and that was only what I saw from the I-5. Needless to say that though I have yet to experience their MMJ program, I would easily relocate to Oregon one day. Congratulations on your move!
