It's from high times, but I found most of these to be pretty well thought out.
With the notable exception of the "gunky residue" (resin) legend,
these all seem to cross right over into our vaping world.
I thought the one about thc loss in water was pretty interesting.
Worthy of its own discussion thread?
    You guys decide :spliff:

At HIGH TIMES headquarters, we hear just about everything.
But not all of it is true.
It’s time to set the record straight on a few things!

The Tale: A slice of fresh fruit will keep your stash fresh.
Myth or Fact: MYTH -- But it will promote fresh mold.
However: Use a pot leaf to maintain your bud’s moisture and flavor.

The Tale: It’s a good idea to pee on your plants.
Myth or Fact: MYTH -- Yuck! And you’d smoke it afterwards?
While urine does contain nitrogen, your plants will die from undiluted piss.
However: You might try the traditional method of watering your plants.

The Tale: Putting a dead fish at the bottom of your grow hole provides long-term nutrients.
Myth or Fact: FACT -- Rotting fish releases nitrogen and trace elements necessary for healthy roots.
Squanto actually taught the Pilgrims this concept.
However: The fish should decompose completely in your grow hole months before planting.

The Tale: Pouring soft drinks on your plants will flavor your buds.
Myth or Fact: MYTH -- Are you serious? That stuff is killing you, so imagine what it will do to your plants!
However: Molasses and certain sugar-based formulas can enhance natural flavors,
but Grape Nehi and Mexican “schwag” seeds will not create Purple Kush!

The Tale: Holding a hit in gets you higher.
Myth or Fact: MYTH -- Almost all of the THC is absorbed by your lungs in the first three seconds.
After that, the remaining cannabinoids and tars in the weed are all that’s left.
However: You might pass out from lack of oxygen and hit your head on the linoleum.
Then you’ll be stoned, but definitely not high!

The Tale: Music enhances the growth of your plants.
Myth or Fact: FACT -- Science has proven through experimentation that plants thrive on music.
However: Bagpipes and the accordion are lethal!

The Tale: A bong will get you higher.
Myth or Fact: MYTH -- A 2000 NORML/MAPS study found that “water pipes filter out more psychoactive
THC than they do other tars, thereby requiring users to smoke more to reach their desired effect.”
However: HIGH TIMES researchers are currently in their lab disproving this theory.

The Tale: Ice in your bong will cool your smoke, making it healthier for inhalation.
Myth or Fact: MYTH -- Smoke is smoke, no matter what temperature it is.
However: Ice is harmless. And so are flavored liquids, instead of water.
    But stay away from smoothies.

The Tale: You can get high off the gunky residue in your pipe.
Myth or Fact: FACT (barely) -- You might catch a mild buzz, but you’re smoking concentrated tar.
And concentrated tar is not a dab!
However: When you’re facing dry times, drastic measures are sometimes required.

The Tale: The Founding Fathers got high.
Myth or Fact: MYTH -- They didn’t. But as learned agronomists,
they certainly were aware of the psychoactive properties of cannabis sativa.
However: The last three Presidents did get high -- often!

Soooo… THC absorbs quick but other cannabinoids don't? That one's new to me. I wonder where they got that info.

I'm sure they meant tars in the smoke rather than the weed, too. Imagine what kind of sorry schwag that would be…

Maybe eating, or concentrates are a better delivery system for certain cannabinoids.
Also how do we know for sure that the founding fathers didn't have a little of the good stuff for their pipes? :D

I thought it was intertaining. I've heard about putting lettuce or a slice of apple to treat super dry herb. I've always wondered about the mold issue with that. Years ago I used a piece of lettuce but took it out as soon as I noticed the herb felt fresher.

Also how long to hold your draw in is always a contentious subject among cannabis users. Three or four seconds is all I usually wait.

Dude, the resin one is bunk. I used to be real lazy cleaning my glass pipe when I used to burn and could smoke the smack hole on the pipe for weeks- AND get stupid stoned.

Fresh fruit? Where I come from it was a small piece of orange or lemon peel, not a moist piece of fruit. Worked fine for us.

They missed the point of a bong. Not that it inherently delivers more THC, but the cooling action of the water allows much BIGGER hits. It's not as efficient, but it is medicating.

The one about ice is just a mess. The take is that ice cools bong smoke, making it less irritating. And their mythbusting is "smoke is smoke no matter what the temperature is". Bring whoever wrote that to me. I'll take a low-temp convection dab and they can have a monster hot dab. It's been a while since I've seen someone cough up a lung.

I found this looking up founding fathers cannabis:

I thought there was a line in something written by Thomas Jefferson about how he failed to properly separate the male and female plants? Like his notes for the garden one year. So how was he not intending to grow it for drug purposes. or am i wrong about this?

wait wiat, it's in that straight dope link in the above post. i dunno. it sounds like they're saying he wanted to separate them for better fiber from the male plants and to more easily get seeds from the femaile. :(

or he only decided to go fiber because he bungled his sinsemillia crop :)

I ran in to that. It's from letters of George Washington. As much as I'd like to imagine Presidents lighting up, the cannabis they were growing was fibrous hemp not the resinous popular plant of today. I'm guessing he was bummed his crop went to seed because it added extra work to the processing of the hemp for cloth and rope.

From reading writings of his numerous travels, I would pick Ben Franklin as a cannabis enthusiast. Dude knew how to party. Paris. Beer. Girls one third his age.
