Must go places on Maui?

Going on a vacation soon and don't know the spots to hit up.

Especially interested in things craft-beer and photography/hiking related.

I'm on Maui right now. This is my 25th visit and I stay two months, usually July and August but this year it's November and December. I stopped doing the tourist thing many years back, so I might not be the best guide, but I do have a couple of suggestions.

There are hiking trails through Haleakala crater:

This is high altitude hiking (3000+ meters) and might not be for you, but those trails are spectacular and you'll get to photograph the silversword plant, which grows only on Haleakala.

There is a hiking trail at Olowalu which is fairly easy and ends at some rare Hawaiian petroglyphs:

The trip to Hana and the Seven Sacred Pools takes all day, unless you're actually staying in Hana (which hardly anyone does) but is worth the time.

Maui isn't big on micro-breweries, but there is a good one called Maui Brewing Company in the Kahana Gateway Center (West Side). Don't eat there though, go next door to the Black Angus during Happy Hour, sit in the bar (their restaurant is pricey) and order from the bar menu. Great food at terrific prices (I love the prime rib sliders and the seared ahi).

If you have specific questions, I'll try to answer them. Maui no ka oi.

Used to stay at Hana Maui Ranch. Loved it! Somerset Maugham's favorite beach. Is that still there? Right near 7 sacred pools.
Yep -- here it is!
