It is a good idea to keep the tracking number yourself when shipping anything so that you can verify delivery. If you can't do that you really don't have any recourse. They honestly don't know if you shipped it to them or not.

Did you pay with cash or check/debit/credit card? perhaps the records can be pulled by looking at your bank statement, or at least you will have the day and time of the transaction for when you go into the mailing center that your originally used.

Also, consider calling the mailing center you used - getting someone helpful on the phone can could help figure out your dilemma.

I've lost tracking numbers before, but was able to get them by calling. It was a pain in the ass, but it worked.
