    Hey all!

About a year or two ago, I made the foolish decision of buying a new grinder from my LHS at quite an expensive price because I wanted something a bit larger than my previous grinder. Knowing my friend was in need, I gave him my old no-name grinder to use.

Now, I'm having buyer's remorse - my grinder is horrible! Constantly attracting gunk between the top two parts (it's a 4 piece grinder). Seems like every other month I have to give it an ISO (grain alcohol) soak to clean it up. Other times I need to use a knife to scrape some of the bigger gunk from the walls to prevent my grinder from seizing up and sticking constantly!!

Way back in my college years when I first started to smoke, I bought a space case at the recommendation of friends. I loved that grinder, but being the idiot I was at the time, traded it for a no-name HUGE grinder my other friend had (I swear it could grind an ounce at a time!).

Naturally my search lead me to the newer Titanium space case. From what I gather, the titanium will help prevent gunk from sticking to the walls, and keep the teeth sharp.

So what I want to know, is the Titanium version of the space case worth the price? Does it live up to it's promise? Looks like I can get a medium size 4-piece grinder from Amazon Prime for $69

I have the large titanium space case and I love it! I honestly didn't think it was going to be this big lol. It does stay pretty ungunked unless you grind up a bunch of sticky ass shit for a bho run lol, which I just did so it's pretty Notchey up top but still no restriction. Here is the size of it next to the EVO for comparison.

Right, I know about that thread - did a bit of searching, and it seems people are complaining about the titanium coating flaking off.

Is that still an issue? Is the standard space case better than the titanium one?

I don't think that ever was an issue. The SC is well worth the money.

It is NOT coated in Titanium. It is possible that the word "titanium" is part of a name of one of the chemicals they use in the anodizing process as a dye... it's only for color. It's even more possible that "Titanium" is just their name of the color.

SC grinders are cool... but why grind when you can shred? Try a SCS and you'll be glad you did... there's even more colors to choose from.

"This Space Case is CNC precision machined and coated in titanium which means it fits together perfectly, and is built to last. " http://www.spacegrinders.com/space-case-4-pc-titanium-grinder-med/

I might ultimately try an SCS instead of the Titanium SC, but I'm still on the edge as I have never handled an SCS or used one. I hope I can find a LHS that carries it before I make a decision.

I have to agree that SCS makes the superior product. IMO that's the general consensus in the grinder thread.

Santa cruz shredder is where its at man! Ive never owned a classy grinder before and was always using those cheap ass china grinders or the free ones you get from the sites. I never in my life understood why people would spend 70$ on a grinder but after reading through the grinder thread I convinced myself it was a worthy purchase. To my amazement I was very impressed with how well it performed. There is literally NO resistance for me even if I pack my herb in the grinder. Not the mention the grind consistency is damn near flawless and suits my needs PERFECT. The screens are a lot better than the china grinders as well and give you a much purer kief product in the long run. Dont second guess yourself just do it and I promise you, you will be happy.

I have read that before, but that does not make it true... it's just marketing. There is no way that they are coated in titanium, but it is possible that something like Titanium Dioxide is used in the anodizing process to add pigment. It's only color.
Check out the grinder thread, there's a .gif that demonstrates how the SCS uses sharp teeth to cut your material into tiny shreds instead of grinding it into a pulverized mess. Some of us believe that this helps keep the tricomes intact on your product instead of becoming grinder hash.

If you do decide on the SCS, I recommend the flat/matte finish, it seems to have less sticking problems.

.....have them both...and a mendo mulcher too...this is very subjective...you really can't go wrong with any of them....I equate this to cameras...people argue about canon/nikon all the time...they both....take excellent pictures...

Space case was the best but the shredders unique teeth turn most my herb into powder with ease with equal build quality and durability you like in the space case. Also even the "titanium" space case is aluminum if I remember correctly. Cali crusher also has unique teeth and amazing build quality Def worth looking at. .. I believe it's the only medical grade grinder, my friend loves his but I prefer my shredder. Both are amazing, only two I would consider

Space Case Ti grinders ARE titanium anodized. I called Space Case in April 2011 and verified that they are in fact titanium anodized.

I posted the following in Vapor Related Equipment - Herb Grinders on April 16, 2011:

Space Case Ti grinders - Titanium or not?

There is so much conflicting information out there I went on a quest to find a "definitive" answer.

I remembered someone posted a telephone number for SpaceCase warranty issues (this topic, post #1929). I figured that would be a good place to start.
    949-515-9622

This is the distributor for Space Case grinders and is next door to the manufacturing facility in Costa Mesa, CA. The gentleman who answered the phone was very helpful and patient with my repeated direct questions about the "titanium" grinders. He said that the Titanium grinders are made out of aluminium and have a titanium anodized coating. I pointed out all the confusion on the forums and in the online sellers information. He said that the new "Black" and the old purple/gray/gunmetal colors ARE all genuine titanium anodized. He said the old purple variations were supposed to be black but there were quality control issues during anodizing. During the first few years the "purple" color varied from purple to gray. They have gotten their titanium anodizing process fixed and they all look black now.

    To summarize: (according to distributor/manufacturer)
Space Case Titanium grinders ARE titanium anodized.
Space Case "Black" grinders ARE titanium anodized.

Note - They still have some B stock of the old purple grinders at a discount.

Just to throw in my 2 cents ... I've owned both Space Case and Santa Cruz Shredder grinders and IMHO, although both are very good products, the SCS is better by a long shot.

Thank you! This is useful information.

Thanks for that opinion. I got that feedback from multiple people on here. And since my LHS ripped me off for $40 on a crappy grinder a few years back, I figured I'd take a chance on something with a different teeth pattern.

Sure the Titanium Space Case might be nice, but it has the same boring teeth, and I'm not convinced the titanium annodizing would actually improve the aluminum's strength to prevent wear on the sharp edges.

Really didn't intend for this to thread to become an argument over which grinder is better, but the forum has spoken! And who am I to not trust my fellow FC'ers who introduced me to the Lotus and the D020! :mmmm:

I've already had a Space Case, sure it was great, and I'd probably STILL be using it if I hadn't traded it years ago when I was an idiot. But now it's time to try something new
Ordered a small SCS from Amazon prime two days ago - it'll be here today!

You won't be disappointed....I can take hard as a rock Mexican brick and SHOVE it in there and begin grinding with ease..all other grinders would have gotten stuck or would have been extremely hard to grind but the scs cleanly and easily shreds through it all and gives me consistent results every time

I will stand by my statements on this, they are NOT coated in Titanium. These grinders are anodized aluminum that may or may not use an ingreediant containing the word "titanium" in the anodizing process (for pigment). If it was even possible to coat a grinder in Ti, the cost of the grinder would be 3-4 times the price or more... and it sure as hell wouldn't be black.
I did a bit of searching and found nothing about "titanium anodized coating of aluminum", please provide a link to some information on this process... if it exists.

gotta agree with kief here, if they were selling an actual titanium wrapped aluminum grinder the price would be at least 100+....I honestly believe its a marketing ploy and they are using something with 5% or less titanium just so they can use the word and have people believe its a better product.

Lol, no worries, I haven't seen enough technical information to determine how much titanium there really is in the SC.

Got my SCS in the mail today, of course I went home for "lunch" ha ha ha. I'll be posting a review shortly of first thoughts in the grinder thread
